We added mangos as a topping and they tasted almost out of season and wasn't great. The acai itself was smooth. === THE CUTEST. Funnest market we went to. Say hi to G and have lunch there on their front porch!…read more=== We had seen Warehouse 3540 in Lawai on our trips to West Kauai, and after stopping there (also a really great stop but that's another review) walked back to Lawai Market. Super glad we did! Lawai Market has tons of house-made baked goods, a kicking deli section, incredible bread, smoothies, local goods (mostly food kinds), interesting alcohol/spirits, just tons of fun stuff. Counter folks were super friendly, G was especially friendly and helpful, offering recommendations, helping us out, talking story with us, and making us feel at home. Specific thoughts: ++ House-made s'mores bar. Huge portion. Five of us shared one. Topped with toasted marshmallow, then fudge-y brownie, then this incredible crust which seemed like graham cracker shortbread - never had a crust like that. Almost impossible to cut through because it's so wonderfully thick. It literally stays on the knife you use to saw through it. But oh so good. Each bite lasts a long time as you make your way through the layers. + They had more than a dozen other pastries, again, all house-made fresh every day. G says the tres leches cake (beautiful and floating in the cream mixture) and the brownie parfaits are crowd favs. ++ Curried chicken salad. Supreme comfort food but with strong flavors of curry (they don't mess around), raisins, and all sorts of other textures. FILLING - our group of five couldn't eat more than half of the small container and we loved it. ++ Egg salad. Punchier than most egg salads with lots of strong dill. Tended to like the chicken salad more but dug into this when I needed a break from the curry. + Spicy poke. Good and fresh. Personally like the spicy poke from The Musubi Truck better, but this was still solid. Always love the creaminess if the aioli. + Purple power smoothie. You can tell there's something healthy in there - not like your normal straight up sweet smoothie. (I think it's kale.) But this really grew on me. ++ Focaccia. Oh man. Salt crystals on top, great texture to the bread. Our group are bread connoisseurs and they loved this. We went back for a second loaf because we devoured the first one. ++ They have small sizes of everything in their deli which makes getting a selection of a bunch of things for your group easy. We literally sat out there and walked back into the store three or four times to browse and get more items. And walked out with more and more each time. Sitting on their front porch is great too. Yes, the main road goes right by there but lush trees and Kauai greenery abounds on the other side of the road which makes the whole space awesome to hang in. Make this stop - you won't regret it.

Review of RipTides Shave Ice Kauai I recently had the pleasure of visiting RipTides Shave Ice on the beautiful island of Kauai, owned by Mindy Hibbitt. From the moment I stepped into the establishment, I knew I was in for a delightful treat. The vibrant and inviting atmosphere, coupled with the friendly staff, set the stage for a fantastic experience. First and foremost, the shave ice at RipTides is simply exceptional. Mindy and her team have perfected the art of creating fluffy, finely shaved ice that melts in your mouth. The texture is incredibly smooth, and the flavors burst with intensity. Whether you're a fan of traditional options like strawberry or mango or looking for something more adventurous like passionfruit or lychee, RipTides has a wide range of flavors to satisfy any craving. One aspect that sets RipTides apart from other shave ice shops is the attention to detail in their toppings. The syrups are generously drizzled over the ice, ensuring that each bite is infused with flavor. They also offer a variety of add-ons such as condensed milk, mochi balls, and even a scoop of ice cream to take your shave ice to the next level. The combinations are endless, and it's a joy to create your personalized masterpiece. Beyond the shave ice itself, Mindy and her team create a warm and welcoming environment for their customers. The staff is knowledgeable and passionate about their craft, always ready to offer recommendations or assist with any special requests. Mindy, as the owner, is a true gem. Her dedication to providing an exceptional experience shines through in every aspect of RipTides. She takes the time to engage with customers, ensuring their satisfaction and creating a sense of community within the shop. The cleanliness and organization of RipTides are also worth noting. The shop is meticulously maintained, and the preparation area is kept spotless. This attention to detail not only enhances the overall experience but also instills confidence in the quality and safety of the products. While RipTides Shave Ice is primarily known for its incredible shave ice, they also offer a selection of other treats, such as refreshing smoothies and delicious Hawaiian-style snacks. It's a testament to Mindy's commitment to providing diverse options for all tastes. In conclusion, RipTides Shave Ice on Kauai, owned by Mindy Hibbitt, is a must-visit destination for anyone seeking a delectable and refreshing treat. The exceptional shave ice, friendly staff, and inviting atmosphere combine to create a memorable experience. Mindy's dedication to quality and customer satisfaction is evident, and it sets RipTides apart as a top-notch establishment. Whether you're a local or a visitor to the island, make sure to stop by RipTides Shave Ice and indulge in their delightful creations. You won't be disappointed! This place serves the most incredible snow cones ever! They offer dairy-free and gluten-free options and the very kind owner has celiac which made me feel safe eating it all. The natural fruit syrups they use are absolutely outstanding. Easily a 5-star experience. I've visited twice already during my trip to Kauai, and I'll likely return every day for the rest of my stay. Our entire family of four got different things in our one stop at Honu Shave Ice and all were a bit disappointing. The ice quality was mediocre, the ice cream was barely there, and two of our shave ices had almost nonexistent syrup, to the point where it was just clumped ice chunks. I suspect that they don't train there staff well, given that our experience was pretty different than the reviews. Here are the shave ice rankings from our recent trip to the island (June 2026): Kauai Shave Ice Rankings 2026 1. (Tied) North Shore Bowls in Kilauea - very enjoyable and creative pre-designed flavor combos, nice fluffy ice, good ice cream, flavorful syrups 1. (Tied) Wailua Shave Ice - very enjoyable and creative pre-designed flavor combos, delicious toppings, very good ice texture and ice cream; too light on the syrup for one of our two trips 3. Wishing Well in Hanalei - good fluffy ice and really flavorful natural syrups; downside is it's very crowded (always!) and pretty basic 4. JoJo's in Hanalei - this is a standard shave ice place; ice was a bit compact and icy, but the syrup was plentiful (maybe too much, if you can believe that, for our one visit) and the ice cream was both generous and good 5. Hee Fat in Kapaa - great flavors but the syrup was light coverage, and the ice cream seemed gummy/freezer burned, ice was decent texture; used to be our favorite in Kauai in years past, but it hasn't kept up with other places and maybe the quality has gone down hill 6. Honu Shave Ice in Kapaa - syrup was very light, almost nonexistent on one of our shave ices, ice was clumpy/chunky, ice cream was really minimal, flavors were decent
