In the area for my monthly visit and I wanted to stick to my routine of salads and placed an order for the salmon salad for lunch. The salad was just ok as it seemed over priced for the portion size, not sure I'll order that again. On my next visit for dinner I tried the crab bites and the crab dip and both were just mediocre, the dip was mostly cheese but the pita bread was good, the crab bites were mostly filler and again overpriced. On another visit to get some dessert, I decided to give the food one more try and had the riptide special(sauteed scallops, crabmeat and shrimp) with sweet potato casserole and spinach. The entree was good and again the sides were just ok. I did have the banana pudding cheesecake and the coconut cream cheesecake for dessert and it was incredible and well worth the price so it's a no for me as far as the food but I will return for more of that light and fluffy cheesecake. read more

We traveled from Mechanicsville for what I anticipated to be a pleasant dining experience but ended up being something much less. Were seated on the patio by a very accommodating hostess armed with menus and utensils. Weather was very inviting for eating on the patio and there we set for at least 15 minutes as other guests were being seated and a server brought water to a couple seated after we were. Finally an observant server asked if we had been assigned to a server and naturally we hadn't and that we had be waiting for no less than 15 minutes. He took control of the situation and promptly took an order for drinks etc. This guy saved the day but the damage had been done in my estimation. The food wasn't anything to rave about only average at best. The price was way over the top for mediocre food and less than expected service. I find this to be getting to be quite typical for restaurants of any caliber. read more

Exceptionally impressed! First time coming to this restaurant and it served as the perfect date night spot for my partner and I. It took a little time to be seated but once we were everything was seamless. Our server Callie was sweet, attentive and patient. She accommodated my special requests with a smile. While my mojito was a little on the sour side for my preference, I did appreciate being able to have a mocktail. The menu is full of so many options to choose from. I got the Riptides Special... it has a mix of this and that. Food was delicious which will be the very reason we'd return for another dinner here. read more

Great service at the bar. I had the Cajun dry rub wings and hush puppies, and they were both great. Hush puppies should not be heavy, and these will melt in your mouth. Dinner was the blackened mahi mahi, sautéed spinach and a tuna poké bowl. The tuna was perfectly cooked rare. The mahi mahi was done to perfection and a generous portion. I also had a drink before dinner, a nicely done Manhattan. If you're in the RVA, definitely give this place a try. read more

A very nice free standing seafood restaurant with a nice decor. They provide a nice array of fresh seafood dishes that are delicious. They need to better train their staff. My raw oysters came out with no cocktail sauce or horse radish. My flounder was ordered with a brown sugar & brandy sauce that was delicious, but it was served separately in a bowl, but there was no spoon to apply the sauce. Each of these mistakes required finding our waiter to correct them. They have ample parking. read more

Ive lived in Richmond for years now. Always heard about Riptides but recently moved a bit closer and finally made my way there..... and I'm SO glad I did. My boyfriend started off with the oysters Rockefeller which he finished in what seemed like a matter of seconds. For cocktails, I started off with life's a beach. It has a non frozen pina colada vibe. Very tasty! I also tried the Island Breeze which was by far my favorite. For entrees, I had the fried combo with fish, crab cake, and oysters. My sides were broccoli and fries. And added on a house salad. My boyfriend had the New York strip with an added crab cake with sweet potato casserole, corn, and spinach. Sadly, I forgot to take a photo of the entrees because everything was so good. Service was also amazing which is really rare right now. It is a tad bit pricey but I'm hoping to make it here at least once a month. read more

The first time I went the food was great. We went back again and it wasn't quite as good but still worth going. We went a third time and ordered the fettuccine Alfredo with shrimp and it was cold. We sent it back and my plate returned and was better. My friend wound up sick after eating hers. The service is mediocre but the ambiance is nice. We've been here several times, but hadn't been in quite a while before last night. I don't like to complain, but a couple things worth mentioning: The noise level was much higher than we had experienced before. We always ask to sit on the left side (not the bar side), because it has always been quieter. Last night it was deafening. It was one of those situations where everybody had to talk louder to be heard at their own table! I know this is not the restaurant's fault, it starts with one loud bunch and grows from there. We sat at a wide table and couldn't hear our friends on the other side. The food was subpar; I had grilled grouper and it was way over-cooked, to the point that it was tough! For some very strange reason, you can no longer get a baked potato - what??? My wife got a baked sweet potato and it was tiny. I don't know about the couple we were with, but overall we were disappointed, especially considering the pricing. read more

What a delicious meal... 5 stars primarily for the food. My party of 4 arrived dinnertime on Saturday placed our name on the list and waited, and waited and waited. 45 min later we were then seated n a small area . Ill give them the thumbs up on social distanced while dining with out mask. However it must of been the side for large groups like 10-12people. Just as we were leaving there was a large party of about 10 checking out , after cleaning immediately there was another 12 top seated at that table. Our waitress Callie greeted the entire table, took our drink order with appetizers orders also. I wondered about the chalkboard daily special, but my drink arrived and forgot to ask. With in the 45 min waiting n the car, we all had checked the menu and knew what we wanted to eat. This was my first dining here, my sister and BIL. Live n the area and have dinner here many times before, they have been pleased with their meals in the past. Appetizers arrive, oysters Rockefeller, crab stuffed mushrooms, crab dip with pita triangles and hush puppies. They were all very food. Hot and delicious. Oysters just as I like them..still with brine. They were freshly shucked and full of Flava. Drinks were very very good. Moscow mule was delightful with my fav TITOS vodka, top shelf LI ice tea for sis and she enjoyed it also. BIL had a bloody Mary that came with, olives celery 1 shrimp. Since we were n a seafood restaurant I was wishing that it had crabmeat and at least a few more shrimp cooked another way, FRIED to be exact. Just not so bland. Our meals arrived in a short time, and I was more pleased at my plate. Everything was lightly tossed n a flour coating. I was happy that it was not dipped in thick coating then fried. This plate came with whiting fish, I was not excited about whiting but yes, it was fresh and not frozen. The crabcake was awesome, no filler just lump crab meat. A few hush puppies on the plate and I ate it all. The restaurant it self was bustling with energy and sounds of tv's, no music at all. I probably would of ordered one of the meals off the chalkboard just because I like what the chef want to make off the regular menu. But we were not advised what they were until hubby went outside and took a pic for me. Riptide has my vote and will like to visit again when we are in the area. read more

The service was great my waiter was Brady. I had the seafood platter which consisted of my choice of shrimp, catfish, and oysters. The oysters were plentiful and they were cooked just right. My husband and I had dinner at riptides this past Thursday night. The weather was beautiful. The outdoor tables and music was lovely and the staff polite, friendly and efficient. My husband had the lobster ravioli and enjoyed them very much. I asked for salmon to be cooked, medium rare. I was told that they only cook it well done. I ordered the mahi-mahi because I thought it was a thicker piece of fish and could with stand a little more my dinner for skinny slices that was so well done. It had to be cut with a fork. The fish had absolutely no moisture left in it that was a little bowl on the side to eat the pieces, I got tired of chewing and didn't eat the rest. I would never order fish there again. I would go there because the atmosphere at night was lovely. The staff members were great but who ever heard of a chef that couldn't cook fish to order for the customer. read more

At the time when I decided to go there they were closed., but it didn't stop me for coming back a week later. And I definitely wasn't disappointed. So I ordered the Whiting Dinner with a regular garden salad and I had to try the Firecracker Shrimp Bites they were delicious. Although you only get about 5 for 12.00 is a bit much but still tasty. Very popular restaurant in Chesterfield, Va. Sadly they don't accept reservations unless your party size is over 10. We went on a Saturday night and the place was packed! The service was great. Ambiance may be lacking if you're looking for a romantic date night. The food was delicious. We ordered the crab bites for an appetizer to split between three. More than enough to share. My husband had the she crab soup and loved it. For his main entree he had the Riptide Special which had broiled shrimp, scallops, and crab cake. I had the crab cakes with a baked potato.
