It's sad when summer food places shut down in the fall, but at least Rippers departs with a spectacular goodbye. St. Rippers Day included a slew of bands across its seven hours in a FREE event. I enjoyed the new wave-influenced dysfunctional relationship sagas from FirstSex and great 70s-type garage punk from a trio whose name I can't figure out (but will update to give the proper credit). I have no formal music training so I can't necessarily vouch for my genre descriptions, but I can thank Rippers for helping create a distinct sense of place in its regular operations as well as this festive annual event. read more

The burger was a bit salty but tasted like a good quality burger (about the same as Shake Shack or 7th Street Burger) and had a nice char from the grill. Service: Staff are friendly and nice. Food is served quickly even when it's crowded. Ambiance: The line is consistently long but moves quickly. Ripper's is a cute little spot right on the boardwalk of Rockaway Beach. It's very laid back, with long, communal tables instead of individual tables. They do have a mildly limited menu, but what they do have, they do amazingly! I got the vegan burger, which I at first was going to be a Beyond burger, but to my surprise, it was a house-made veggie patty instead, topped with vegan cheese and their special sauce. The fries were seasoned perfectly, and honestly didn't even need ketchup, but I decided to dip them anyway. It was also enough fries to share with both of my parents, which is a plus. For my drink, I got the limeade, which was the perfect level of tartness. You can tell it's homemade, which I definitely do appreciate. And sometimes I feel like I'm living a life of illusions and i went to the shore and watched the cool watered waves flow and remembered the things that I done at 116th St when I was young. And now I see through this hole in my world on 85th St the young guy got older - beach bod not what it was, but no longer a life with any confusion but I can still hear the waves song calling me - the pretty girl I kissed at night, wrapped in a Mexican print blanket and low in the sand dune - walking barefoot along the quiet waters -and love was in the air - always. If you remember me, if you get lost, you can always come back and we can walk again together, but honeychild - I have my doubts. There's no pulling upon me anymore, we tried and it flipped and flipped and twisted in the wind and we will both live a lot happier if you live without me because - I think although you don't look different, you have changed. And I still have those that cherish and treasure me and I sometimes wonder why, so maybe we'll come back to the water, back to the RIPPERS bar back to the fun that reconnected people can share. The musical acts of Part Two of the Double Header Two Days of Mayhem couldn't perform - Wakala and Depresion Tropical - Cartel and Sleep Well. The rain never gets me down - gear affixed and POW - right upon our heads, the downpour of Ophelia's natures surprises then WOW, the bar was filled with more beers and the tequila came with no warnings and we flipped them upside-down one after the next. When it rains - eat, drink and be merry with your rain gear and your friends - there isn't great XXL doggish rain gear - I'm starting a new company in the next hour if my morning dew don't run dry - its a carry over from the day before but a week to go two thousand miles. This was me fiiiift? or more probable my sixth RIPPERS trip - always a banger of cheesy fries and beers that make you go "humm" and then rip four as a warm up before we hit the water and come back out and go deep into the bar again. read more

Went here today with my son around 11 am before a day at the beach. There was no line and food came out quickly. He had the hot dog and fries, I got the chicken sandwich and cheese fries. As you can see from the picture the fries are COVERED IN CHEESE and an extremely salty seasoning. The regular fries were also covered in the same salty seasoning, It was too salty to eat so my son asked if he could have a regular fries instead and was told he would have to purchase another, which I did; they weren't any better. I live in New Jersey, and I think most of our beaches are superior, but none of our beaches give you the vibe of Venice Beach like Rockaway does. And that vibe is augmented by rippers. Had a wonderful day at the beach, not counting the restrooms, and decided to get a burger and some fries. They had live music along with the food and it was just a quintessential summer day. I love coming here when we're at Rockaway Beach. It's a little food shack/bar attached to the bathrooms. They have a little covered seating area as well, and the people they hire are pretty nice and friendly types. The frozen cocktail was next level good! Guy at the cashier ended up giving me a free metal straw after we'd paid up (my dumbass thought we could just use them and give them back afterwards, so they could wash and re-use them...forgot about COVID I guess). He said "shhh, I didn't see it, just take the straw!" All the staff were pretty friendly mostly, actually - including the lady yelling out people's names to come pick up their order. I miss the soft serve, but I'm so grateful Rippers is open during the time of covid. The glob of cheese on the cheese-fries was so big they're more like fries-cheese (cheese with a few fries in it. Ha.). Felt very safe. I placed my order on my phone and then picked it up when my name was called. My friends and I had Rippers for dinner on the beach and then watched the sun set. Rippers is a super chill hangout on Beach 86. I've been here a couple of times. The first time I went was during the evening and there was live music and dancing. I tried the Chilled Beach Juice and it was pretty good and fruity. My second time at Rippers was during a hot summer day. I was craving the burgers and fries. The burgers were well seasoned and tasty. They were doused in a special sauce that added a euphoric flavor. The seasoned french fries stole the show! So good, fresh, and you get a lot of them for $5. My husband made the trek to Rockaway Beach a couple weeks back. We were walking along the water for awhile when we noticed the clouds coming in all dark and stormy looking. My husband looked up this place on his phone. We moseyed our way over to Rippers. To my surprise there was a ton of surfer, tattooed types. It started to look like we were hanging out at Venice Beach! Cheap beer and veggie burger options. I was wearing a Bukowski shirt and the bartender told me about a bar called Bukowskis. I was happy to know there was a bartender that was into the author that I was. There was a ton of picnic tables covered with people. We sat at one table with a pair of friends and a mother/daughter pair. I hit it off with the mother/daughter pair and my husband talked to the other kids. We took turns on buying the beer for the two of us. I spotted one of those little art walls that people stick their heads in for photo ops! I have a little obsession with these things. I really should start a photo album with just these photos. This was a shark and a hamburger. It was super rad! As the night progressed, people drank more. This older rocker band took cover by the bar and set up to rock out! The drummer of the band also made some comment about my Bukowski shirt. It was pretty funny. I finally ended up getting a burger. It was a little on the dry side but it was nice to not have to order just fries for dinner. At the end of the night, people were dancing on tables, taking pictures as hamburgers and drinking the evening away! It was a blast! A perfect way to end the summer. read more

The food is good albeit definitely overpriced, so I suggest just going with a fries and can of beer. The fries were really very good and I was so pleasantly surprised at the overflowing basket of fries and the amazing seasoning on them. The other items on the menu looked to be on the small side, weren't that tasty, or just plain expensive. A definite pro is that there's a very spacious and clean outdoor seating area with plenty of picnic benches. Rippers is the perfect way to start, or end, a day at the beach. I've only ever ordered the burger and fries, and the food is tasty and cooked well every time. There are two lines, one to order food, which is closer to the entrance, and one for drinks, which is located in the back of the space. The kitchen is in the middle, and that's where folks wait for their orders. It runs pretty smoothly, and even when the lines are long, the staff is friendly and get orders out quickly. The booze situation is great as they have many options--do not sleep on the Beach Juice. I don't know what's in it but it tastes great and does the job. They also have frozen drinks every now and then, and lots of beer options to choose from. You can take your food and beverages out into the sitting area, which is shaded and where featured bands play on the weekends or in the evening. The vibe is very laid back and casual. Bonus for being located near the restrooms. Chances are if I'm at the beach, I'm setting up my towel within walking distance from Rippers. read more

I'm not to sure what people expect for a beach shack/food spot with the live DJ in Far Rockaway, but Rippers is a good time right on the boardwalk with unobstructed view of the ocean. They have DJs playing fairly popular music for all listeners, sells decent drinks (alcoholic and non) and food that smells pretty good (everyone around us was enjoying whatever they ordered). We enjoyed our drinks and they even have sturdy paper cups and straws! The prices are pretty cheap and the crowd is relaxed, what more could you ask for? read more
