If you like desserts, this is your place! Foods not too bad either. For your average sized diner, you won't believe the number of fresh, homemade desserts they have on their menu! Pies, cakes, tortes and ice cream... not just a couple of flavors either. (Dessert menu is separate from the main menu). The food menu is also vast. Breakfast, lunch and diner. Your going to find something you will like. This is a friendly, hometown type of diner that is a nice find for anyone looking for a good meal. Our first time here. Very nicely appointed dining area. Three of us had different meals and we all enjoyed our fare. Even though they were quite busy, Sunday morning, our meals arrived promptly. Waitress was efficient and kept our table supplied and cleared. It was St. Patricks day and the restaurant was nicely appointed. Adequate parking in their own lot. Right on state Hy 23. My third time here. Fast food would have been better. Again. It's a diner, so the first time I had a turkey club sandwich, and since it was underwhelming, on my second visit I had a lunch salad. This, my third and final time, I ordered the hot roast beef sandwich which came with chicken tortilla soup. The soup was chicken gravy with not a single shred of chicken, or anything other than thick gravy - no vegetables, no cheese, no chicken. Two spoonfuls was two too many. The "hot" beef sandwich was cold. Ice cold. Even after I sent it back for a minute in the microwave. the highlight was the mashed potatoes. The sandwich was cold roast beef from the nearby grocery store deli. Not a chance it was cooked and sliced in house. The gravy wasn't even tasty enough to come from a jar. My advice - pick a day when Mr & Mrs P's Eatery down the road is open, or if they are closed, cut your losses and get take-out chicken from deli at Websters Market (now Hy-Vee). read more

The last three times have been disappointing to say the least. I never like to leave a negative review but I feel it necessary now. The potato pancakes were the size if a dinner plate. When asked if they would come crispy, they came 3/4 inch thick and doughy. Sent them back and they weren't any better. Today I had nachos which came with an enormous amount of liquid cheese, which had to be scraped off to find any chips or meat. I'll have to rethink coming back. read more

My favorite place to eat in Ripon. Great food and quick, friendly service. My mom and I went back multiple times while in the Markesan/Green Lake/Ripon area, and all of the dishes we tried were delicious. The restaurant has a real cozy, down home vibe. When I walk into a local family diner and its packed full of elderly people, I think wow this is a good sign. My taste buds are bland and I like my food soft, the less I have to chew, the better. For the first time ever, my intuition has deceived me. The menu is so overwhelmingly big, it reminds me of all the episodes of kitchen nightmare when Gordon Ramsey goes to all the restaurants that are failing and one of the biggest problems is their menu is way too big. There has to be easily 6 pages full of stuff, plus an extra page for their specials, and then a handwritten sheet of pies available. So when the cashier told me about their chopped beef special and comes with a potato, a side, a soup for 5.99, I thought it was a great deal. It was about 7pm when i went in and the cashier came back and told me they were out of the potatoe so I said if i could just do double peas instead. After all, I need more veggies in my life! While waiting for my food, I browsed the pie display and decided on a banana cream pie (which is normally my favorite) since it was displayed that they are freshly baked. After I ordered and paid, I talked to the cashier a bit and she told me that the pies were not made there. It is bought from a bakery from a different town and sent there. Interesting... So, I get my food and go back to my hotel. I couldnt bare to eat most of the items. The chopped beef tasted like just hamburger meat with no seasoning. The onions on top of the beef tasted better than the actual meat itselt. The chicken noodle soup seem to come from a can with the shell noodles being overcooked and soggy. The peas also seem to come from a can. The banana cream pie was the best part of the meal. Really, I should have just ordered like 3 slices of pie for dinner. I rather go to a fast food place than this, and that is saying alot. read more

We drove all around Green Lake because my wife was just dying to have some pie. We finally found a nice case of pies at Ripon family restaurant. I enjoyed my Carmel Apple crumb pie and she had the blueberry pie. Pies were good, she wished the pie was a bit more tart. Fast and friendly service, good experience overall. read more

Visited Ripon for the first time in over 20 years and stopped for lunch at the Ripon Family Restaurant. It's the old Brauns family restaurant in the location of the old Country Kitchen. We had the cheese curds, a hit turkey sandwich, patty melt and strawberry rhubarb pie. All decent diner fair with the curds being better than average. The pie filling was great and not too sweet, but not the same fresh baked crust done daily like the when it was Brauns. Good, solid diner fare. read more

I was excited to try the food at Ripon Family Restaurant, everyone said it had great food and friendly staff. When we arrived we were seated by a gentleman that never spoke to us, just pointed. Next we were greeted by our server, whom was a very friendly woman. I ordered the combo platter and the 1/2 broasted chicken with mash n gravy with chicken soup. The soup was amazing. However, the broasted chicken was fried to hell and back 3 times over. The skin was falling apart with a touch of a fork, the actual chicken was so dry it was hard to swallow and a bit tough to get off the bone and had absolutely no seasoning. The carrots were soggy and bland, the mash and gravy all you could taste is salt and pepper, a very high amount of salt. All in all, I paid 34.00 for an amazing bowl of soup and a meal that was inedible. I likely will not return to this restaurant. read more

This place has been newly remodeled and the seating arrangement is much more roomy and comfortable. Have enjoyed a couple breakfasts of Belgium waffles with strawberries and two lunches. One being a special with BLT and cup of soup. The other was grilled cheese with cup of soup and fries. All reasonably priced and very good. read more

Although I'm from the area, I don't often go to this restaurant; however, recently I gave it two tries and I've been satisfied with both. They didn't wow me but they weren't disappointing. The first: I went around noon and ordered an omelette with hashbrowns. The service was great, food warm, coffee hot, and atmosphere welcoming. The hashbrowns were a bit bland but my omelette was tasty; I even got American cheese substituted out for feta! The friends with whom I ate loved the chicken tortilla soup. The second: I went around 1pm and ordered the beer battered cod special (from the Friday fish fry specials). The clam chowder was what I'd expect, and the entree came with 4 pieces of cod, a (fairly) small dish of coleslaw, a choice of potato, and mixed vegetables. The cod was the best I've had in a while: moist but crispy. The fries were fantastic. And I enjoyed the coleslaw, albeit a small amount. Disappoint came, though, when it seemed they used canned mixed vegetables. My friend ordered the chicken salad and complained about the price being so high for using iceberg lettuce on the salad; I agree it'd be a better value to use romaine in a salad entree. Each visit, I came with 4 or more people, and the wait staff was friendly and helpful. I'd be glad to go back again. read more

This was my second visit to the Ripon Family Restaurant, and it will be my last. In fact, I should not have gone this second time. The first visit was simply not much to write home about. Food was mediocre, service lousy and slow. We went back mainly due to location and still being new to the area, needing somewhere near the college campus so that we could get my son back to the school in time for a Welcome Week meeting. Two members of our party ordered the cream of chicken soup. In the midst of it, one of them found an insect. Needless to say, the rest of the soups went back uneaten, and had we not been in a rush, I would have then suggested going elsewhere, as who knows what else with legs would be found in the food. It was embarrassing. Meanwhile, they appeared to be still serving the soup. I asked about it, and they said they had another pot, which makes sense, but in my experience working in restaurants, when something like this happens, the item is pulled completely to ensure that the incident is not repeated. No manager came to apologize, no mention was made without me having to ASK. Not good customer service. They did take off one of the meals, which is good, but there was really no actual apology or anything. Now I know there are better places closer to campus, and will go there from now on. read more
