The pork had good flavor, but the pupusa was mostly cheese. The curtido it was served with (spicy cabbage slaw) was just ok since it was really vinegar-y and not spicy at all. OMG - thank you Yelp Reviewers!! We were in the neighborhood and wanted to try something new and saw the great Yelp reviews and thought we'd give it a try and I'm SO thrilled we did. This is a hole in the wall, neighborhood GEM!! We got one of each of the pupusa especials - one beef, one chicken and one zucchini/cheese and got to watch them make it - all made to order - fresh and delicious! The BEST pupusa's we've EVER had - great size - not tiny - great price - LOTS of flavor and that cabbage slaw they give you is PERFECT! Some places give you the cabbage slaw that's already got the spice/heat versus this place give you a clean wholesome fresh tangy slaw that you can then add the amount of heat you want!! And did I say it's made to order?? HOT and FRESH!! Loved it and can't wait to come back for more! I also had their chile relleno and steak enchilada combo! DELISH!! It's true their enchilada is basic in which they roll up the meat and add the sauce and cheese on top! I LOVE it - so clean and flavorful - and I have to say eating together with the cheesy "meaty" chili relleno is a PERFECT combo. I was in the mood for a good chile relleno and found Rincon Sabroso through Yelp. I ordered the combination chile relleno/chicken enchilada dinner, which comes with rice and refried beans, for $11.45 and a medium horchata for $2.75. The chile relleno was loaded with melted cheese and excellent. The chicken enchilada was good, but a little dry. I would have preferred it topped with more melted cheese and enchilada sauce. It's quite simply the best food that you can get in this part of the area. Everything is authentic and everything is flavorful and cooked to perfection. You don't need to go to some restaurant with fancy Decour and ridiculous prices to enjoy great Mexican food. We keep coming back here because it's from the heart cooking. OMG. I just found the best burrito place. HERE! And it's only $6-7 or so. The outside of the tortilla is CRISPY! very crispy. It's just like Puerta Vallarta. I love it. The meat was good. We got the super burrito with carne asada, one pork/beans/cheese pupusa (comes with Mexican cole slaw) and two carne asada tacos. Plus a diet soda was $12.03. They were all good, but the burrito was the best. Love it! And the owner lady is very nice (and speaks very good English!). Quick service too. Plenty of parking. read more

Solid spot for pupusas and other good food. Honestly some of these reviews are so misleading. They make it sound like this place is sketchy or that it's hard to order food. It's not sketchy at all, it's in a standard plaza in MV. And it's very easy to order food. I had a beef and cheese pupusa and a couple tacos and my friend had a super burrito and the revuelta pupusa. We loved everything, down to the coleslaw the pupusa comes with. The pupusas were made to order and came piping hot. They were served with a tomato sauce. The tacos were served with a salsa verde and a hot salsa which was actually also good with the pupusa! Service was good. These other reviews don't match up at all. Everyone was friendly, from the cashier to the server to the busboy. Definitely come here for good food and good service!! read more

I wasn't having luck finding authentic Mexican food in this area then tried Rincon and I'm obsessed!

Again... my food was supposed to be ready when I arrived. At least this restaurant was really busy, so I can understand if they were a bit behind. Sometimes I have trouble walking and this day was one of those days~ I was hoping to go in, get the food, and go sit down as quickly as possible. The restaurant is a bit small, and the aren't many tables inside, all full so nowhere to sit. This lady that doesn't seem to be doing much keeps looking at me. I don't know why as she never attempted to help me she just looked at me a lot. I tried waving at her at first ~yes I need to pick up my order~, but all she could do was look at me it was getting pretty awkward... I ended up standing there (leaning against a table for support) for about 20 minutes zero help from anyone. A man walked up, and the lady that enjoys looking at me immediately went up to him to help him. At this point I realized ok this is not ok, so I started getting loud in front of all the people "hey where is my order?" I was met with "I don't know" I said "wow thanks" um does anyone actually work here that wants to help me locate my food? So a lady came to look at what I ordered she said it's coming, and that is when they started making my order.... they never even started the order that was supposed to ready when/before I arrived. I left without my food, and got my money back from the service I used. If someone at the restaurant (most likely the lady that wasn't doing as much as the others that kept looking at me) would have simply greeted me back when I arrived, and let me know about how long it would be until my order would be ready, I could have gone to my car and waited, and you'd likely still have a customer. read more

Happened to stumble upon this restaurant. Ordered one chicken pupusa and one beef pupusa. And my goodness gracious. It is glorious. Be prepared for a long wait. They roll the dough and make the pupusas on the spot! However, it is worth the wait because it is so delicious. The rice flour is soft on the inside with a slight crisp on the outside. It is grilled to perfection! The meat inside is soft and tender. It will melt in your mouth along with the gooey glorious cheese. Don't forget the salsa and curtido; it makes the overall meal taste more refreshing! My only suggestion is to make the curtido less salty! I prefer it to be a bit more sweet and sour. Everything on the menu is very cheap and affordable, so that's a definite plus. The place isn't the greatest looking nor cleanest, but it's decent. The employees don't seem to go around cleaning up tables often. They're probably too busy making the food. Also, as soon as someone leaves, another customer sits down, so the tables were always occupied the entire time I was there. The employees aren't friendly. They don't seem to speak much English, so I understand the language barrier being a reason for little verbal communication. A smile or positive body language would be nice, though. read more

This might be my favorite restaurant in the Bay Area. I've frequented Rincon for the past decade plus and always made a point to visit when I lived in LA and was up on a vacation to see friends and family. It is a true testament to their food quality that they have continued to get more popular and busier despite their location in a shopping center which is rarely frequented. My go to order here is a few of there excellent papusas. I've tried all types (mixed, bean and cheese, asada zucchini and cheese, etc) and they are all quite good. The mixed papusa is a bit oily but has great flavor and is paired nicely with the Salvadoran slaw included in the order. I've recently decreased my meat consumption so my current go-to order is 2 zucchini bean and cheese papusas (not on the menu but they will make it for you). I also highly recommend their Salvadoran tamales (chicken, potato, and green bean filling wrapped in a banana leaf) which are loaded with flavor and a pastor taco (solid pastor/good flavor). I've been a handful of times during COVID and they have been doing their best to adhere to social distancing protocols and have patrons wait outside while their order is being prepared. There are a few tables outside where you can eat if you are in a hurry but they do a good job at preparing their food to-go so I suggest takeout. Order in advance (on Yelp, or call) as they make everything to order so it can take some time (20-30 min). read more

This is quite the hole in the wall mexican restaurant. Great food for great prices. I'm a huge fan of their carne tacos. They are very flavorful and contain just the right amount of ingredients. The tacos come with your choice of meat, onions, cilantro and salsa. The beans and rice are also well made and super tasty. They have pupusas here, which aren't too easy to find. I like mine with the mixed (pork, beans, & cheese) filling. They recently upgraded their menus to digital ones on the wall. There's a large TV at the front of the restaurant where futbol is usually being played. I've never had to wait long for my food here and the staff is always super nice. They have both indoor and outdoor seating. Came here last Sunday with a couple friends and enjoyed some tacos and mixed pupusas. They have both indoor and outdoor seating. The menu is projected on a few different tv screens opposite of the kitchen/prep area. I ordered two al pastor tacos and split a couple mixed pupusas with my two friends. I think I was hoping for a little more meat on the tacos, but the flavor and consistency were great. It was a good thing we ate our tacos first because the pupusas were still pretty hot when we dug into them. Heck yeah! Rincon Sabroso was stop number two on my quest for cheap eats today. Located in Mountain View, next to my fave Shanghai Family and a Walgreen's, Rincon Sabroso is a pleasant find in the Peninsula. You'd usually have to travel to SJ for Mexican food this good, but the crowds all seem to know this hidden gem is the real deal. Admittedly, I had seen Rincon Sabroso several times before while going to Shanghai Family. The parking lot can be a tad sketchy at night as some clandestine transactions sometimes take place and other times there are three cop cars parked in the lot. It wasn't till I saw the Yelp reviews that I knew this place was a must-try. As the preppy lunch crowds headed to the nearby Hobee's, a diverse and hungry crowd headed to Rincon Sabroso. An extensive menu is plastered on the wall and I, for one, liked the change of pace from all the burrito-centric places we have nearby. Tacos - I ordered the carne asada and lengua (tongue) taco at $1.25 each. The lengua taco was delicious! Tender, moist, and flavorful, the tongue meat was characteristically different from the chewy tongue I've had once or twice and disliked in Chinese cuisine. The ingredients were fresh and a nice homemade salsa mix gave the taco the needed kick. I had high hopes for the well reviewed carne asada, but found it a disappointing contrast to the lengua. The meat was overcooked and tasted relatively bland. Overall, a darn good taco and I'll have to try the carnitas next time. Very reminiscent of tacos I've had in Mexico though their pineapple and churrascaria meat tacos are still the best I've ever had. Pupusa - I've long heard pupusa aficionado, Flor D., rave about the delights of this Mexican dish so I knew it was about time that I had my first one. I ordered the pork and cheese. Warm, soft, and full of delicious melted cheese, it was easy to see why the pupusa has it's fans. Very good. Horchata - this house-made refreshing drink is better than any can of soda. I ordered a medium and found it the perfect compliment to my meal. My generous order came to $7.50, the same amount I spent on the Hunter Sausage at Polish Deli. Quite the deal and cash only. I left happy. I have only one question for Mexican food experts: why are the prices for soup so disproportionately high? How can a $1.25 taco shop charge almost $20 for a single bowl of soup? I got all excited after reading all the rave reviews for Rincon Sabroso, and made my way here pretty quickly as a result. But I have yet to uncover the phenomenal taqueria some other yelpers are so hot and bothered about. (RS currently has a stratospheric 4.5 star yelp rating) Cases in point: -- What top-notch taqueria doesn't make their own chips? And provides store-bought, trans-fat-laden ones to customers instead? (but only after long negotiation with the staff). Bad form. -- What self-respecting taqueria would just reheat pre-prepared meat in the microwave, and serve it to customers? OK, maybe a few. But, how many would do it so badly that it had hot and cold spots? My chile verde plate arrived just so. The sauce was gummy too. I'm super sad to have to downgrade my review by one star. I found Rincon Sabroso in January of last year, and at that time they had the largest super burrito I'd ever seen, for less than 6 bucks. The price is now $6.50, upped by a dollar, and the super burrito now looks no bigger than most others. In other words, less for more. Super disappointing. How do I know for certain that this burrito was so much bigger last time? It's been 21 months, so is it possible I'm just remembering things better than they really were? Nope. When it comes to quantity of food, this brain of mine doesn't mess around. It remembers what's the real deal. Besides, last time my burrito was so packed that it was falling apart with every bite. This time? Nowhere close. For what was in it, the burrito was good. Then again, it's hard to mess up burritos. I had the choice between "green sauce" or "red sauce", and I picked the red because that's what I was told was spicier. Unfortunately, it wasn't all that spicy. But fortunately, there was a bottle of Tapatio on the table, which I poured shamelessly all over the burrito. Tapatio and Sriracha always save the day. So would I come back? Stumbled upon this place after a visit to Walgreens. It looks pretty ghetto from the outside but inside is alright. There's a huge TV with soccer on. The woman who took my order was rude as hell as if (fill in the blank). I wanted a breakfast burrito with eggs and chili verde. She said I could pay extra $2 for the chili verde. So my breakfast burrito would go from $7 to $9! Umm no thanks I'll take a regular burrito with chile verde for $5.75. Didn't know eggs cost $3.25. The burrito was decent but small. It reminded me of a chimichanga size. Chili verde had good flavor. The carne asada and chorizo were decent. Really nothing special. I hate to note this but I watched the cashiers interactions with all customers after us. It is very apparent that she is friendly and even smiled with hispanic customers. Authentic, cheap, and pure tasty. My favorites here are the tamales and tacos. The lengua taco is just pure meaty tenderness with simple flavors that make me salivate. The tamales here are never dry and full of meat. I love the chicken tamale. The last time I went my coworker ordered the diabla? It's a shrimp plate with spicy sauce smothered all over and served with rice, beans, and FRESH tortillas. Let me tell you, I could eat those tortillas alone. We were wondering why it took a bit longer for his food to come out. OMG best dish EVER. Creamy, thick, spicy, tangy sauce to dip your fluffy, fresh, hot, delicate tortilla all over. YUM. Try it out... and if you're looking for the salsa, its in the metal looking thing on the right side of the restaurant. They're in bottles for easy use and no cross contamination. =) read more

First and last time I order from this place. We placed an order in the morning through their website. Our food was delivered and it was NOT what we ordered and paid for. We got 2 tacos, one Pupusa and one enchilada. We ordered a torta and a chicken plate. We called the restaurant and we were told that they use a third party to deliver and if we wanted what we ordered to pick ut up ourselves from their place. We told them our lunch already started and they were 15 min away and it was not our fault they gave the driver the wrong order. They told us to eat what we ordered and we can order again tomorrow so we can eat what we ordered today...REALLY? we asked to speak to the owner or a manager we were told the owner was not in and they had no manager, but suddenly a manager got on phone, when I asked what was her position she said I am the manager, I said I thought the restaurant didn't have a manager. The lady was very rude and kept talking over us. I told her she needed to let us talk since we were the customer and she said I am explaining to you and you need to give me respect! We asked for the owner's phone number. I called and asked him if he was the owner of the restaurant and he said "I think so". I explained to him our situation and he gave us the same solution and excuses. So my co worker had to drive 15 min to go picke up our food that we paid to be delivered. They told us to complain to the people that delivered our food and we don't know who they are. I hope they Don't spit on our food..my co worker went back because we had already paid and they didn't want to refund our money. Ahhh....Thanks to my Co-Workers and Yelpers....this is the "hole in the wall" place that I've been missing!! I've been here a few times already and loved their food. Business started out as a Taco Truck and in 2004 Rincon Sabroso was established. Good Job!! I've had the: Super Burrito Pupusas Tacos I can't complain about any of the dishes I've tried so far. The meats I've had are: Carne Asada / Grilled Steaks Pollo / Chicken Lengua / Tongue Pastor / BBQ Pork All of the meats were cooked just right. There was always more than enough meat to fill a Taco or Burrito in every delicious bite. Chips are free. Today I had the "3 Tacos, Rice and Bean Special"......yummy!! I ordered the enchilada dinner, with carnitas, barbacoa de chivo (goat), barbacoa de res (beef), and a chicken pupusa. The enchilada plate comes with guac, sour cream, beans, and rice. The carnitas were a bit dry, but the barbacoa was pretty good! The pupusa was decent, though I wish it was cheesier. Service takes a bit.. but they make everything fresh right there! This is my favorite place to go for Mexican food. When I get a craving for one of their crispy and flavorful burritos, I cannot be stopped. I turned my sister on to this place and on a few (mildly embarrassing) occasions, we've randomly run into each other, dropping by to grab a yummy lunch or pick up dinner on the way home. My staple is the carne aside burrito with a bean and cheese pupusa. For only a couple bucks, you get the pupusa with all of the fixings in a little baggies so it's perfect to pick one up on your lunch break and head back to work. You'll want to move quickly, though, because achieving the perfect burrito does take time and I've been late getting back to work (about 6minutes away) because of waiting on my food. If I'm not in a rush though, I usually swing by walgreens next door and grab a drink or pick up some cheap unneeded nail polish, and by the time I head back to Rincon, my food is ready for me. This review and rating is solely based off my recent visit. I love this place, the food is usually amazing. I always dine in but now with Covid, take out is the only option. I spent over $100 for dinner just to take it home to find out it was wrong, and missing items and basically half assed. As an essential worker choosing to spend my hard earned money on a small business to help them out during these crisis only to find out my order was messed up is very disappointing. I even left a generous tip for my large order and now I'm regretting I did. I won't be back for a while just because I feel robbed. It's a shame cause I really do enjoy the food. Suspending my boycott of "Yelp" momentarily. I have always said "the only thing 'Yelp' is good for is finding a close by taqueria that is open". And I stand by that. Yelping "Karens" (that is the Royal, non gender-specific "Karen", btw) slam excellent restaurants and shops all the time over absolute nonsense and laud garbage because "my food came fast", or "the waitress was nice" or "the view was great". Amazing. Fantastic neighborhood joint for solid papusas, and tamales. Their chicken tamale is dynamite.

My friend took me here after my request for "a good low-key" Mexican place for lunch. If I was just driving near here, I'd had missed this place for sure, but it was pretty spacious inside. My super burrito was the size of a pillow. It took me a while but I managed to down the whole thing as I was super hungry that day. For that volume and taste for $5.50? Oh yeah, great value for sure. It was not too heavy but filling. My friend ordered 5 tacos and it looked pretty good too. I'd stop here again if I were near, but there are tons of place like this - a very tasty food and cheap price, everywhere in the bay area. So 3.5 stars from me! read more

Hole in the wall with good food. The pupusas were very good and the flan was humongous. First place I have seen a Beef Chile Relleno. I am a fan! Surprised at how many good Mexican taquerias are in this area. read more
