This is truly a hidden gem. I stumbled across this place by accident. Now I have a new favorite Austin restaurant!

I ordered the Pollo Catracho, bone in chicken, with a seasoned crust, moist and juicy interior, served on a bed of sliced plantains, and topped with Honduran dressing, shredded cabbage and pickled onions. The young lady that took my order was very friendly and helpful. Although I thoroughly enjoyed the Pollo Catracho, I hope to return and request to order the fried chicken only that was very well-seasoned with a lite crust that was beyond measure.

Fortunately for me, Sabor a Honduras was ready to turn that around. The employees were very nice and accommodating as my friend and I put in our orders, and were happy to give us guidance as we took the plunge in to Honduran food. While the dishes were definitely more expensive than I would have expected (hovering around $15) they were plentiful, and genuinely really tasty. My friend got the pollo catrachos and I got the tacos catrachos, and both were great. Overall I really enjoyed the experience. I think to-go might be a bit of a better plan than eating in (we did, and I can't say I'd recommend it) but overall it was a really solid experience.

No one wants to fight with piece of meat. Everything else is till spot on. I'm not sure if there are any Austin Yelpers who are considered the authority on Honduran food. If you're out there, thank you for holding my spot, but I'll take it from here. First things first. The Baleada. This is quintessential street fare, not to mention the most ubiquitous in Honduras. An over sized, handmade flour tortilla filled with refried beans, scrambled eggs, crumbled white cheese, and cream. That's a sencilla (simple) version. You should take the baleada con carne which is that same thing with grilled beef added. These things are huge. You only order one. Seriously. Next, let's talk plantains. Growing up, fried sweet plantains were a mandatory part of any Honduran meal. Here, they serve it the way it would be served at home. The fried plantain is sliced, then served with refried beans, crumbled white cheese, and cream on the side. Top it with as much as you like and go crazy. It's delicious. There are other dishes to try, and you should explore the options, but not before you've tried these two. Honorable mentions go to the Chicharron con Yuca (fried pork rinds with cassava) and the Carne Asada con Tajadas (grilled meat with fried green plantains.) If you want to do this properly, you should also ask for a "Banana" to drink. It's a soda and you can probably guess the flavor. The last thing I'll tell you is that, no matter what you order, you need to ask for a side of "encurtido." Shut up and do it! Almost forgot to mention that this is a CASH ONLY establishment. Enjoy your meal!

The outdoor tables are covered with blue umbrellas to protect you from the pesky sun. So I walk into Lima with a food blank slate. I was not super hungry, but I wanted something to quench my hunger. I ordered the Aguadito soup (chicken soup with rice and cilantro) and plantains along with a Alfajores cookie (made with dulce de leche). The soup came with chicken on the bone along with fluffy rice, peas and carrots. OMG...this soup was amazing!!! It tasted like something your grandmother would prepare. I am a picky when it comes to plantain (no green, hard plantain for me). The menu stated, "golden, caramelized sweet plantain, fried to perfection). Lima had me caramelized. My ideal plantain is sweet with a crispy edges. Lima's plantains are my new favorite! Don't tell anyone, but I ate them with my hands...like a little kid. The cookie was also baked to perfection...really enjoyed my cookie. When I walked in, I was immediately escorted to a table by a friendly hostess and server. She was quiet-spoken and super nice. This was an excellent dining experience...will definitely be back...sooner than later!

My husband ordered their tacu tacu limeno which was 19.95, came with garlic rice, few pieces of tomatoes, and beef in a watery stew. My pork was cooked well, and it was really juicy, and the sauce was flavorful and paired really well with the rice. My husband's beef was tender and cooked well too. His tasted similar to a filipino dish. Servers were nice and attentive. Prices are a bit steep for the amount of food they give you, but it could just be the area they're in. Next time we come, I would like to try their ceviche! Overall, it was a good restaurant. Parking can be a bit tough since parking spaces are tight and there's also a boiling crab in the same plaza; people can definitely park better too.
