I ordered the Pollo Catracho, bone in chicken, with a seasoned crust, moist and juicy interior, served on a bed of sliced plantains, and topped with Honduran dressing, shredded cabbage and pickled onions. As a high school student my Spanish teacher berated me in front of the class for bungling the pronunciation of the Honduran capital of Tegucigalpa, so I was a bit intimidated to venture in to the country of Honduras a second time. Fortunately for me, Sabor a Honduras was ready to turn that around. The employees were very nice and accommodating as my friend and I put in our orders, and were happy to give us guidance as we took the plunge in to Honduran food. While the dishes were definitely more expensive than I would have expected (hovering around $15) they were plentiful, and genuinely really tasty. My friend got the pollo catrachos and I got the tacos catrachos, and both were great. Overall I really enjoyed the experience. I think to-go might be a bit of a better plan than eating in (we did, and I can't say I'd recommend it) but overall it was a really solid experience. read more

This has to be a joke? I'm just going to pretend $20 fell out of my purse because that's basically what happened. Ordered carne asada and a pupusa thinking she said it was $10 and $4, gave her a $20. She didn't give me any change. Thought I'd get the change when the food was ready. Nope! It was $16 & $4 . Ugh. Better be good! Nope! The carne asada should be called carne seca - it was old, dried and chewy. Cooked yesterday or the day before. The plate was mostly bananas - entire meal completely inedible. I ordered a pupusa of queso and it had chicharrón in it. I cannot eat chicharrón. They don't have prices on the menu for a reason folks. It's called charging what they feel on the spot. Gross. I went here an a whim... trying cuisine I haven't had before. Got the Pollo Catrachos (fried, bone-in chicken with plantains, cabbage, creamy sauce, and pickled onions and root vegetables). It was a very generous portion (leg quarter plus additional drumstick). It was tasty, crunchy, seasoned well, not greasy and cooked thoroughly... some of the best fried chicken I've had. I appreciate that there was no sign of blood near the middle or by the bones!! That typically ruins it for me immediately. Overall, it was good food. The price was very high ($16.89 cc price), although I don't mind paying more for good food. I would like to say I would go back, but I just can't get past that this food truck is parked next to dumpsters... not immediately next to them, but close enough. At least it doesn't back directly up to dumpsters like one place I went to. Nevertheless, I just can't stomach knowing my food is being cooked near such an eye and nose sore!! Not pleasant thoughts smelling the air while your food is getting cooked. I'm not sure how anyone sits outside the food trailer and eats with that smell lingering. I recently tried Honduran food for the first time and really enjoyed it! It's very interesting to see the overlap between different foods between the various Hispanic countries where often times the differences lay in one critical change. I'll go into what I got and how it differs to it's Mexican counterparts: - The Pastelito. This is similar to an Empanada, except the breading is thinner and it's fried; making the texture more crunchy to chew. This one was stuffed with ground beef, potatoes, and their variation of the side salad which has pico, cheese, and a Honduran sweet cream which is their variation of sour cream, but it's lighter, thinner, and sweeter. - The Pupusa. This is similar to a gordita, except the corn flour pouch is stuffed with filling before cooking whereas a gordita is stuffed afterwards. This one was stuffed with cheese and chicharron aka fried pork rinds. - The Platano Con Carne. This dish consists of fried sweet plantains, ground beef, refried beans with cheese, and Honduran sweet cream. All in all, I enjoyed everything I got. If I had to pick a favorite, it would probably be that last plate. I am a BIG fan of fried sweet plantain and mixing that with the savory meaty flavor of the beef and the light sweet flavor of the Honduran sweet cream makes for an explosion of flavors in your mouth. With that being said, it is a hole in the wall. The service can be a bit off-putting if you're not familiar with the cultures, but I say this: if it is a bit slower or not as personalized - it's not personal. In fact, that's how you KNOW it's authentic! At the end of the day, they offer delicious food at an affordable price and that's why I rate them 5/5. read more

Quaint little food truck featuring authentic Honduran food- locals frequent. The prices are more akin to Austin prices compared to the rest of Texas. My Pork Chop was DRENCHED in mayo. If I were to return, I'd ask for "no mayonnaise please" (or at least have it on the side). We came here with friends, one who is Honduran and it was his first time trying this truck as well. He helped guide us on what to order and we got a great selection of what they have to offer. He can speak to their authenticity much more than I can (though I have had homemade Baleadas before) and he said they were on point. We had their Pollo Con Tajadas, Tacos Catrachos, Baleada Especial, Platano Con Carne, and their 0% juice banana soda. My favorites were the Pollo Con Tajadas which is pretty much fried chicken with plantain chips, lightly pickled cabbage and a cream sauce and their Tacos Catrachos which are basically two deep fried tacos (how could that be bad right?!), very similar to falutas. I also got some Honduran hot sauce on the side which, to me tasted similar to Louisiana hot sauce, no complaints there. I will say that I'm glad I did not get a bottle of the banana soda for myself and that it was shared. I couldn't do more than a sip. It tasted like the love child of Bazooka Joe bubble gum and banana artificial flavoring. Definitely an acquired taste or a nostalgic one for OG Hondurans. The service was good, the food was plentiful, flavorful, and very filling. It's really a great bang for your buck and definitely worth checking out. read more

Gotta say, of all the restaurants I've eaten at in Austin, this place by far tastes the most homemade. I'm not Honduran by any means but this is food I feel like a mom would make - a lotta love, a lot of passion and a lot of flavor. Pollo con tajadas is AMAZING. Extra crispy, juicy, flavorful fried chicken at its best. Well seasoned and bursting with awesomeness. Reminds me texturally a bit like those fried chicken wings at chinese buffets - that level of crisp. With that comes a mountain of fried plantains and slaw with some pickled onions. It's A LOT of food. Tacos Catrachos are effectively two super large flautas stuffed with seasoned chicken and deep fried to perfection. Also comes with a lot of slaw as well. Few minor critiques: One thing I wish they would do is serve the components separately instead of plating all together. The best part about the chicken, tacos, and the plantains is they're all fried and meant to be crisp. The slaw softens the fried goodness and detracts from the textural contrast. still really good though. English is a bit hard to come by, so you can attempt a half hearted shot at spanish to order. Thankfully the good items are pretty easy to phonetically give a go. And ya, as others mentioned, even in the middle of the day, you don't feel safe being in the area, much less at night. So if you want the food here, I suggest calling ahead and grab and go. Other things that look interesting and if we were hungrier would have definitely tried at $2 a pop: papusas and baleadas....just seeing them handmake it is enough to make my mouth water and my wallet happy. read more

Although this trailer has been around for more than three years, totally missed it the ffew times I've been to this lot. Perhaps I was distracted by the tacos at Ley's nearby, but this Honduran(!) trailer should not be overlooked. While there are several Honduran restaurants in town, this is the only trailer I'm aware of. Since our original plan was to get some goat tacos at La Movida bar in the same lot, we decided to just taste a $2 baleada. What the heck is a baleada you ask? It's like a quesadilla, filled with bean paste and crema, no queso. It's simple, yet delicious, and is elevated into grandma-cooking territory by the handmade flour tortilla that's stretched and cooked to order. The tortillas are thick, soft as a pillow and rather divine. If only my own bed was as comfortable as the baleada. After having something so surprisingly ethereal, how could we possibly pass up on ordering a pupusa as well? The chicharrón pupusa actually has pulled pork and the full flavor you only get from a long-cooked pig. It is an exceptional pupusa, and is complemented by a heap of pickled-pink cabbage, if you ask nicely. Incredible food for great prices! Austin has such a great food scene around the downtown area, but don't neglect the spots a little further out! We got the pupusa, enchilada, pastelito, and the carne molida. Honestly, everything was very delicious, it did not disappoint! Great food made on the spot and the prices are insane for the quality and quantity of food you're getting. The plantains with just the crema and queso and beans on the side, and one pupusa was more than enough to fill me up, and for under 6$ you can't even argue with that. Advice - Call ahead, this stuff is made to order and both of my trips I was waiting about 15 minutes for my food to be ready. On the positive side of this, the food is also rocket hot when you get it. Even driving all the way back to my hotel it was still burning my fingers minutes later. I think the fact that I was in Austin for 3 days and visited this place twice says a lot about it, especially with all the food choices you guys have down here. I saw a video of this place on Facebook, it looked like the food was amazing specially how the guy expressed himself about the food. We drove all the way from Houston because I was excited to try the food since in Houston I haven't found a good place to eat Hondurian food. I lived in Honduras for eight years so I know how this food is supposed to taste. I was excited because the food smelled so good but sadly it tasted like crap. The pollo con tajadas was so nasty it taste plain and didn't have flavor. We also tried the tacos catrachos and honestly they tasted like nasty Mexican tacos. I am half Mexican and I know how good Mexican tacos taste and this is so sad because how do you get Hondurian tacos to taste like Mexican tacos? Like the nasty ones. If I could give this place less than one star I would. Please guys if you want to try good Hondurian food don't start here! Make sure you start looking some where else first. If this is the last place on earth that serves food then yes choose this but just try to stay away from here. The area is really bad too! The lady was a little bit rude, she started acting nice to me until I told her we were coming from Houston. I have never in my life done something like this because I don't like to talk bad about anyone's business but I was really disappointed. Introduced my husband to Honduran food here- it's good! The baleadas are a great bang for your buck and tasty. Pollo con tajadas are delicious and enormous. I've tried almost all the menu items at this point (except the drinks) and haven't been disappointed by any of them. The last time I was there, they even served D'Olancho hot sauce with our meal. Wait varies based on their phone in orders and what menu item you select, but I've never had to sit for too long. They don't expect you to pay until you receive your food and are always thrown off when I pay upon ordering (though they don't mind it seems). I think this place gets good business bc there are always people hanging out. Hope to see them succeed long term! read more

Talk about diamond in the rough- this no frills food truck behind the scary riverside HEB is totally worth getting mugged for. The desayuno meal and the pupusa is incredible and super cheap! The desayuno meal is scrambled eggs, avocado slices, refried black beans, this weird white sauce, a baked plantain and a tortilla. The pupusa was like a tortilla pita with some kid of sweet meat or bean filling- there's nothing that I could compare it to really, but it was incredible! I could eat those plantains and pupusas for the rest of my damn life. They do to-go orders so call ahead so you don't have to wait! It's located right next to some sketchy convenient store with bars on the windows. The food is worth the risk of getting mugged so just go! I will be back!! read more

After hearing about this place from a friend and reading a number of great Yelp reviews, I decided to check it out. We went on a Sunday evening and it was pretty crowded. Ordered and waiting for about 15-20 minutes, not a big deal. We ordered the Pollo con Tejadas and Carne Asada. The best word I can use to collectively describe the food was "Meh." The fried chicken was greasy and for $9, I expected to at least get a piece of white meat (chicken breast), but instead, the chicken was all dark meat, mostly wing and maybe some thigh, I believe, so lots of bone but little actual meat. The cabbage/plantain mixture was pretty good but the plantains were completely covered and located at the bottom of the container. They would have been great if they were more crispy, but instead they were fairly soggy. Yes, we ordered to go, but we only live 5 minutes away so I don't feel like that was the issue. The Carne Asada was ok, the meat was not fatty at least, but it still had the same soggy plantain mixture underneath. After eating, we had a lot of the plantain/cabbage mixture left but didn't even bother to keep it for lunch the next day because we anticipated it would just get soggier. My go-to dish is their Baleadas (I get them 'sencilla' or without the avocado, egg, and cream) which is just a bean and cheese flour tortilla for $2.
