My wife and I decided to go for a drive on a beautiful day and stumbled on Riley'. Wow what a great find!! the food was amazing and extremely affordable. The whole atmosphere was wonderful and people very friendly to us being stranger. The icing on the cake was Ed the bartender. Dive bar. Food is pretty good. Service is good. The bar section can be loud. They have a nice front porch. But, like most outdoor places in Whitehall the traffic noise is horrible, at times deafening. A good place to get a good meal at a good price. Perhaps the most disgusting establishment in the Lehigh Valley. i had a Groupon to use and had heard their burgers were good. I had intended to take an order to go but was told over the phone that it was eat-in only, so I decided to meet a friend there for lunch. The entrance porch area was partially taped off with police tape, and what looked like a door to the restaurant was not useable. I ended up going into the bar entrance, which was so thick with smoke that it was not easy to breathe. the. artendee never even looked up so I tried another door that les to what was allegedly a dining room. another employee was in that room, on her phone, and there were no customers at any of the tables. i asked her if we had to eat out there, mening the smoke-filled bar, and instead of answering she went into the kitchen. after waiting about 5 minutes, she was still on the phone, in the kitchen. i had no greeting, no menu, nothing. I even heard her complaining that I had asked if we had to eat at the bar. That was the last straw. I called my friend and tole her we were going somewhere else. If you want friendly service and to be able to breathe when go out to eat, do not go to Riley's. The place is disgusting and the staff is rude. read more

I had high hopes for this place but... My cheesesteak had not one but two hairs in it and I had to wait 35 minuets for it. I also think the prices are way too steep, $47.00 for one cheesesteak and two drinks. When I asked the bartender if my bill was correct she didn't even check it, just told me "pay up". Stopped by to get a quick lunch before going rafting with my family and were well serviced by the friendly bartender/server. Been back several times for taco night. I have yet to try anything else on their menu but plan on it eventually. The bar area is smoky and a bit loud but its a very friendly crowd. The tacos seem to have gotten bigger since our first visit. Can't complain about that :) read more

Went there on a Wednesday night at about ten to 11. Mind you, there was a total of 20 customers in the bar. Waited 22 minutes for a drink(honestly was timing it at that point.) My friend has previously gotten a beer, after the bartender had already looked at her two times and had checked her phone. Also, while she was asking everyone else at the bar for refills who already had drinks, instead of serving people with no drinks. When one person spoke up about the service being so bad, the bartender threatened to not serve them at all, and became very rude and unprofessional. Probably never coming back here unless we're desperate. Very bad first experience. read more

Just visited my second time in several weeks. We live in Baltimore, but grew up in Whitehall when this was the Egypt Hotel. Played pool there in High School. Saw a Groupon and grabbed it since I visit my brother there often. I must say, the Riley's cheese steak was the best one I have ever had. It was prepared by multi-tasking Ed, who was also the bartender that day. Very large, with flavorful meat and an awesome roll. He spent time with us about how he made it, and showed us around to the "old pool room". A gem that we will always frequent when in town. Update June 5, 2014 Visited as routine when in Egypt and discovered Ed had left. He was a great asset for this place. The Riley's cheese steak we got on this visit was ok. The bartender/chef asked us how we liked them. Must say I preferred Ed's. read more

I stopped there this evening after spending the day with the whitewater rafters across the road and, despite the fact that the waitress wasn't much of a smiler, I enjoyed the place and the food, and considered coming back. That was until I got home and noticed that, on my bank account app, I had all of these charges from their ATM. You see, they only accept cash, and provide an ATM in their pub for you to use. I appreciated that because I never carry cash around on me. It said that they charge $3 per transaction on the front, and even though that was a lot, I was there with friends and had no other choice. I have been to a lot of ATMs in my time and did not realize that checking my balance real quick would be considered a transaction as well - I've never ever been charged for that. So... I was charged $3 + $2 + another $2 because it says that I took out $62 when I only took out $60. That's a whole whopping $7 just to be able to eat in their restaurant. I won't be going back there again. Way to take money from your patrons before they've even ordered their food. read more

Stopped in for a quick bite to eat. The whole place is so strong with cigarette smoke I almost walked out and went somewhere else. Riley's has to be the top #1 spot for the worse place I have ever eaten. The wings looked moldy and dry. The sauce on the wings tasted like they were sitting out for days. The pizza tasted worse than school lunch pizza. The hamburgers were bland and spongy. When my uncle asked the bartender that if he cooked the burger well. He said that it was already cooked and was just warmed up. The fries were dry and tasted like straight grease. The bartender was very nice and helpful. He had amazing service. When we went to leave and get the check. The bartender let us only pay for the pizza because in the end my brother ate the whole pizza because he didn't eat anything all day. He also knew that we did not like the food one bit. In the end it is not kid friendly because you choke on smoke when you are eating. Wouldn't go again!!! read more

Planned on enjoying a kid free Saturday evening out with my wife. We walked in and sat at the bar. We ordered drinks and tried to order food. While we were sitting there waiting on our menu's, we were attacked by flies. One of the bartenders/waitresses was standing behind the bar unleashing on a customer sitting at the bar about how she is overworked and is unable to make decisions about staffing. She then went on saying she was the gm of this dump. Obviously, she didn't spend any of that time cleaning it or there wouldn't be flies all over the place. Needless to say we didn't order food. It was hard enough to finish our drinks after the fly issue and listening to the general manager talk about not being able to make decisions and being over worked. I know everyone has a bad day once in a while, but bad mouthing the place you work at to the customers is a little distasteful. Definitely will not be back to this place. the food in Rileys was pretty good...we had the sweet & sweaty wings and they were awesome..i had the philly cheese steak and my husband had the Ted Burger and we both had French fries...the cheese steak was very good but did not have any sauce on it..maybe it said that on the menu but living around here standard fare includes sauce on your cheesesteak...the hamburger was good too and being that we ate the wings we could not even finish our hamb and chssteak...the fries were homemade and VERY good! my only issue was that people we smoking at the bar and since we were so close, the smoke smell made my dining experience annoying...I am glad I did not take my kids with cuz they hate smoke and would have had a fit..I don't appreciate the smell either while I am eating...too bad cuz the food was very good and I would definitely eat there again..but will think twice because of the smoke..I thought you could not even smoke in bars anymore!!! read more
