Famous is special to me, and anyone who grew up in Norwalk. When I was a kid, we'd go to the movies…read moreevery weekend, sometimes we'd actually see a movie, usually we just hung out because we only had enough money for famous pizza, we chose famous over the movie every time. We'd hang outside the movie theatres ina group, as an adult now I'm sure we were annoying lol, but we were bored and we only had enough money for one thing, either famous pizza or a movie ticket, famous always won. After we'd get tired of hanging out we'd walk across the street to famous and put our money together for a medium or large pie, and a few sodas, and we'd hop in a booth, it's one of my favorite memories from those days. We'd always get a sticker from the sticker machine too. And I think there was a gumball machine. I loved this place. And for years it was always my favorite pizza spot. Especially Greek pizza. I chose famous over Jordan's and over uncle joes. To me famous was better, better service, better vibes, felt like a spot that just belonged in Norwalk, for everyone, and the best prices.
I've been out of Norwalk a few years now. I'm back today visiting, it's mind blowing how different everything is. All these fancy apartment complexes. Cranes and construction everywhere I turn. But famous is still here. And so is vets park.
I ordered a medium extra cheese pizza well done, me and my friend picked it up and went to sit at vets to eat looking over the water.
I'm so sad.
I don't know what happened but whoever made this pizza didn't care at all and it shows.
It has the famous taste.
But it's so sloppy. So soggy. So not well done at all, that the actual crust under the cheese was falling apart. I've never had that happen before. I went to pull off a piece that wasn't spilling everywhere, and when I went to lift it from the end of the crust, 1/4 of the actual dough fell right off the slice I was lifting, it literally was so soaked, so mushy and so soaking wet that the dough was falling apart, meanwhile the extra cheese was sliding all over the place, which is why I asked for well done because I know extra cheese means something different to every pizza house so I am always careful to get it well done to make sure the dough cooks strong and crispy enough to handle to moisture and steam that comes from the extra cheese, plus it helps to burn/char the cheese up when it's extra cheese.
This wasn't well done at all. It wasn't even normal done for authentic Greek pizza.
I'm so bummed. Everything is so different in Norwalk now. I don't recognize it. My mom passed years ago, no siblings, no dad, Norwalk was my only link left and it's gone. I don't know this place anymore at all. So expensive and so fancy. Way out of my league. And sadly famous has changed too.
Maybe this was a bad day for them
But that's why we put our heart into what we do, because bad days can be the only time someone is able to stop in, and now they're left with a bad experience.
I hope for the sake of what this place meant to me, that they find a way through and that they start taking it seriously like the owner used to, because when you have something that special, it deserves to be taken seriously and treated with love and respect and dignity. Famous could easily be the best thing in Norwalk with these prices, if they just put the effort into it.
So sad
