One time I went to pick up my things at 10 am and the store wasn't even open as her sign said she is. I called with no answer. I sat and waited for her to arrive which is wasting my time. I need all - and I mean ALL of my dress clothes adjusted! Maria, the owner/operator of Bravo alterations, is a sweet older woman from Sicily. She is pleasant, enjoyable, and a master seamstress. It make take some added concentration to understand her Italian accent, but it's worth it. As I have spent time in the shop being measured and pinned, I have had the opportunity to hear a bit of her story. After learning to sew in Kindergarten, she continued in this profession for her entire life - spending the last half of her life here in the US. Maria is not just an alterations specialist. She can build dresses, suits, shirts, and just about anything else from scratch. This matters because she knows how clothing is put together, not just how make minor adjustments. Knowing how the entire garment goes together makes a world of difference. When I take my clothes to her I would have never known they were tailored. The only evidence that the garment was taken apart and put back together is the perfect fit that results. Maria is old school. You will see that from the tools of her trade in the shop. But in the area of alterations, sometimes old school is best. She knows what she is doing AND does it at a reasonable price. For example, Maria charges $35 to shorten the arms on a suit jacket. To some that might seem high. In actuality, to do this job right takes several hours. Maria does it right....always. You will not be disappointed.

I brought a wedding dress in to ask about the alterations I wanted. My wedding is in October so I…read morewanted sleeves added, the bodice is sheer so I wanted it lined, I also wanted some sheer material taken away so the neckline was shaped. I also asked for a bustle. She said she could do sleeves but would not alter the neckline or line the bodice because it wasn't "necessary." She also said she would not do a bustle and if she hemmed the dress she would be making it all one length because I shouldn't have a train on a dress I'll be wearing for an outdoor ceremony. I asked if she'd take my measurements so I had accurate ones. She wouldn't. Then she charged me $25. Which would've been fine if she'd done anything other than tell me no. Might be fine for standard alterations like hemming but I would not recommend for formal wear.
