Due to this pandemic we've been riding more than ever. Decided to buy our 7 yr old a new bike because he needed to size up. Ended up in Ridgewood Bicycle Shop after being referred by family who recently purchased 4 bikes there. We popped in Saturday afternoon, waited outside while the staff one by one took turns greeting customers outside. Busy time for service and retail. The salesperson who greeted us was informative and very quick. We purchased our son a Trek bike that will hopefully last him two seasons until he needs to size up again. The business gets a top 5 for following the social distancing regulations. They greeted everyone outside and ONLY allowed those that were absolutely necessary to go inside. Salespersons wore masks and kept their distance. The store was small and when we went in, apart from ourselves (3), there were only 2 other guests in the store plus the two salespersons. Our questions were answered and although they didn't have a wide selection for kids, they had exactly what we needed and were looking for. The salesperson was good, honest and informative. He asked the right questions in order to provide the proper recommendations, however, we felt a bit rushed. We forgot to inquire about an adult bike and we also forgot to buy helmets and a bottle holder. We were told to stay in the corner of the store until we were ready to pay. I really liked the way the staff followed rules and I'm glad we were able to purchase a brand new bike when so many other businesses are closed. I felt a bit rushed but I totally get it and appreciate the attention, service and the opportunity. We were well protected and don't go anywhere. The only reason all 3 of us went into the store is bc my hubs and I both wanted to be present before spending a few hundred bucks on our kids bike. Thanks Ridgewood bike shop for protecting us, yourselves and the community. Hope to pop in to buy another bike sooner rather than later once this is all over. Oh by the time we left the store, there was a line down the block! The staff was a tad bit overwhelmed but they kept the line moving as fast as they could. read more

My boyfriend and I stopped here randomly because we had been riding on the bike path and my handlebars came loose. The gentleman who helped me was so incredibly gracious and helpful! Even though I wasn't there to purchase something, he still took the time to not only tighten up my handlebars, but help me with my saddle height, which made such a difference for the remainder of our ride. It's businesses like this, with excellent customer service, that are hard to come by these days. We live in Essex County and just purchased new bikes, but you could best believe when we are looking for another bike for my boyfriends son, we will take the ride up here and purchase from them. Outstanding cycle shop in every way. Yes -- like so many things in this town -- Ridgewood Cycle Shop is pricey. And yes, it stocks loads of high end equipment for serious riders. But you can also find entry level Trek and Cannondale alongside the carbon fiber Cervelo road bikes that can run into the many thousands. And you can find most anything bike related here too -- from trainers -- to racks -- to all sorts of cool gear. I especially appreciate the knowledgeable customer service and competent repairs. These guys really know their stuff and never push new sales if the old is serviceable. If fixable -- they will fix it -- and the pricing on tune-ups is competitive with lesser shops. And if you need your ride in a day -- RCS will try and accommodate you -- especially this time of year. My three hybrids were tuned up and ready in one day -- perfect! Top tip: The owner (Drew) is a serious triathlete and cyclist his entire life ... about my age and in extraordinary shape. His wisdom is worth becoming a paying customer here. I bought a Keiser spin bike on Craigslist and new pedals from the manufacturer. I got one pedal off and then spent a few hours trying to remove the other one to no avail. I tried everything from WD-40 to a torch. Finally I bought the bike to Ridgewood Cycle. Drew removed the pedal in a matter or seconds and put on the new pedal.* And he couldn't have been nicer. I will be doing my bike-related purchases there from now on. *Bikes have reverse threads on one of the pthe rotation of the crank doesn't loosen it. It's the left pedal spindle, I think. Anyway, lesson learned. Just went back for help with my 30 year old Specialized road bike. Drew replaced the pedals and fit new tires and tubes - the other ones were going on 25 years old so there was a bit (or a lot) of dry rot. This place--and their people--are great. Ridgewood Cycle is known for its high-end bikes and that reputation is well-deserved. But it should also be known for its amazing customer service--even for people like myself who don't have a lot to spend. I'm enjoying the heck out of my bike and i have the folks at Ridgewood Cycle to thank for it! read more

Very disappointed with this shop. Seem to be nice friendly people, and they do a good job (although charge quite a bit), but for some reason recently the shop decided to make a statement in foreign politics and put out a huge Ukrainian flag. I condemn that conflict but think it is fundamentally inappropriate for a local service shop to pick sides in foreign conflicts. A business that provides a valuable service to the community should be more inclusive and take into consideration the diversity of their customer base. Even if sometimes it looks like a fair idea, a flag can be offensive or bring back painful memories for people who actually know something about the matter. Do you? I asked if they have someone of Ukrainian descent in the shop. They said no, they just "do it for their friends". Well, it is similar to decide to exclude some of your customers and put out a big sign that they are NOT WELCOME, as their "friends" are other people. Will have to look for another bike shop less vested in an agenda. read more

I brought my bike in the other day because I got a flat tire. They fixed it quickly but now the brake is tightened around the wheel and the bike is unusable until I figure out how to loosen the back brake. Thats absolute garbage. It is very interesting that most of the reviewers have had a negative experience at their local bike shop and then came to Ridgewood cycle shop and were pleasantly surprised! I too went to my local bike shop which was packed with people trying to look like professional road cyclists, and I was treated like I was bothering the shop owner. I got back in my car and drove to Ridgewood and met with Drew, who was incredibly helpful, knowledgable, and patient with my questions. I picked out a Cannondale Bad Boy, put on a helmet, and Drew let my test drive the bike in the parking lot, adjusted the seat and handlebars, and then gave some good advice about accessories to make my riding experience safe. I will not go back to my local bike shop, but will definitely be back at Ridgewood cycle shop for repairs, new accessories, etc. It is clear that Drew and the staff make customer service a priority! read more

Nice shop. I'm not a hard core cyclist. My wife and I bought a couple bikes there years ago and I thought we got good service. Fast forward a few years and my wife's bike has been used three times. We're passing it down to my daughter but the front breaks were broken (no idea how when it was used so infrequently). I brought it back to the shop and they fixed it immediately because it was a small fix. Years ago I went to a different shop to buy my kids first bikes. I felt like we were bugging the guys in that store because we weren't avid cyclists. Today I saw some hard core cyclists at Ridgewood Cycle but I appreciate that I was treated well. read more

Elliot. the owner. and his staff will do whatever it takes to get you the best bike and give you the best service possible. They don't even care if you have a receipt if you need to return something. Even if you bought it weeks ago and there's no box or packaging. No questions asked. They just take it back, no problem. They also give you free tune-ups if you buy from them for the first year. Came in with older GT mtn bike, had gotten from friend not ridden in many yrs. Wouldn't shift. Thought would need new cables, but wizard mechanic Corey thought issue was shifters. He put it up on stand, disassembled and unfroze shifters and adjusted index shifting. All in 15 min! While I waited. Took my 10 year Trek mountain bike to a local shop for a tune up. It hadn't been rode in years and unbeknownst to me, needed the front brake repaired as well. Long story short, the local shop wanted over $400 for the tune up and to fix the brake issue. That's right, over $400. I told them not to touch it and took it over to Ridgewood Cycle the next day. Turned out I didn't need the tune up at all. And the brake? It did need to be replaced. Which Ridgewood did. All told, out the door and road ready my grand total was $62. $62! On top of the insane savings, Ridgewood's customer service was some of the best I've ever received. Unlike the local shop I wasn't treated poorly due to my lack of knowledge with higher end bicycles, Ridgewood treated me like I had been going there for years. Which, heading forward will certainly be the case. Going anywhere else would foolish and costly. read more

This place is THE place to go for all your biking needs. I live within walking distance of my LBS, but I got so fed up with smug, condescending arrogance of the owner AFTER spending +/- 3000.00 on my VERY FIRST REAL MTB (thanks for the lesson on how to be a douche) that I started looking for a new place to go. Thankfully my search was short and sweet and led me here. The guys are the most knowledgeable and friendly staff I have met almost anywhere! Drew and Elliot are the Road Guru's and they will impart knowledge at the blink of an eye...without any smugness! The repair side of the shop holds par with the sales side and these guys are incredible, Corey is the man for the fine gear adjustments and he will have you shifting with ease in no time flat. Terrible service... I go in to ask for an estimate on how much it would cost to get a pedal repaired. A few weeks ago I was hit by a van and I survived because of my bike. When I told them the the story they acted surprised when I went to view other items in the shop, I heard them making fun of me behind my back. I ride/train on a road bike year round plus race every weekend from March - Sept, prob log about 40-50 races per year. I have 2 road bikes (1 race - 1 training), a powercrank bike & a TT bike, all of which are regularly serviced at Ridgewood Cycle. The amount of wear & tear I put on the bikes leads to frequent visits for tires, chains, derailleurs, brake levers, fractured cranks...the list goes on. If you happen to know any competitive cyclists, we tend to be pretty neurotic about all things surrounding cycling/bikes. The point I am making is that I bring EVERYTHING I own to Ridgewood Cycle (inc my daughters bikes which I just also purchased a new mtb bike for my stepson). Good pricing (I am an educated cycling consumer for sure) & very good service (I sometimes show up w broken bike and its fixed that day). Drew, the owner, rides and is a committed triathlete, doing full "ironman"-length events regularly. Good selection of tri gear for the runner and swimmer in you. Shop has great brands, Cervelo and Seven for the high-end crowd, and pretty good service (ride the bike around before you leave the lot). They cover the gamut of cycles, but focus on nice bikes for the weekend warrior and bikes for kids. He prices his stuff so that he'll be profitable enough to be around when you need repairs -- in other words: fairly. Great shop. The previous poster's description of the interaction is a typical one, just a good bunch of people. Nice guys, want you riding and happy, they love the sport, they have good stuff. To get a five, he's almost there, but a little more work on the service, which is good, but not quite at the "I'd drive an hour for it" level, which is my definition of a five. My bike needed a new crankshaft as a family member put the wrong pedal on the wrong side. I went to a different bike shop and they said the part would cost more than $250. I was shocked and surprised. I decided to go back to the shop where I had purchased my bike about 6 years ago, Ridgewood Cycle. The guys helped me bring my bike in and then looked at it. Not only did they fix the issue on the spot, but they let me know that the part was actually about $20-$30. Ridgewood Cycle are great people, with fantastic service. They are honest and helpful.
