This was our first visit to Ridgeview in Wilmette since my son moved there in October. I was impressed with the large menu and wide variety of choices both for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. Hard to tell whether Ridgeview is a restaurant or a daycare center for unruly kids. Judging from the screaming kids running up and down the aisles and their parents ignoring them, which I've experienced all three or four times I've been there, I'd say it's a daycare center with good food. read more

When I used to live near Wilmette my husband and I would come to Ridgeview like once a week. We are obsessed with their French onion soup. The best I've ever had. My husband loves the Monte Cristo on the brunch menu. Good chicken sandwiches and sweet potato fries as well. Always good service and timely. read more

There isn't really a lot to stay about this local Wilmette establishment. It's a fine place to get basic food in Wilmette, where there aren't a lot of good restaurants. The place is very kid-centric, and to order alcohol you have to walk up to the bar, which is a pain. Still, it's a fine place for lunch, dinner, or a snack. One time I went to a wedding at a church across the street, and I came over here to grab some fries when I was bored between the ceremony and reception. That was pretty chill. read more

The good folks at Ridgeview are super, super nice when we organize our recurring book discussion series there. The menu is classic enough that everyone finds something they like, although vegetarian options tend to go the salad or pasta route (with a couple of sandwich exceptions). Service is very courteous. The back room is great for groups: spacious and set apart enough from the rest of the restaurant that you feel like you have privacy, but not so much that you feel like you've been banished to some far-off neglected corner. read more

This is a great breakfast spot. They serve Intelligensia coffee and it's the best coffee at any breakfast spot in the area. The food is always consistently good. I've been having breakfast here once or twice a week for many years, very occasionally for dinner, and I like this place a lot. The staff is very accommodating, and the food is great. A year ago my wife and I had our wedding lunch here. My wife has dietary restrictions, as do several others that were part of our small wedding group. The Ridgeview was one of the first restaurants we tried after moving from Chicago to Wilmette 8 years ago, and it rivals any restaurant/diner in the city. Especially enjoy the dinners. Good food, reasonably priced and huge portions served by friendly servers. They have added some tasty new entrees to their menu served with freshly baked bread. A pleasure to get away from the cookie cutter chain restaurants that serve mediocre food. Try the fluffy buttermilk pancakes for breakfast or go to Walker Bros, wait in line for 30 minutes, and pay for an overpriced breakfast that isn't any better. It's not fancy, just good food. So, unless you're a north shore snob who can't tolerate old "biddies" ( is that someone over 50 ???? as mentioned in a previous review) or just have money to throw away, try the Ridgeview. read more

Real comfortable place, and been in the same family for years. The recent (well, not that recent any more) renovations lost a little bit of the charm but did class up the menu a bit. I've only really ever been for breakfast and lunch, so not sure what dinner's like here, but it's a good place to get eggs and stuff in the morning. read more

The good: The food is pretty great. I had the crab cakes benedict. The bad: The service was terrible. We came in around lunch time on a Sunday. We didn't mind the wait, but there is no excuse for having to track down a server to get a refill on coffee and water. She took our order and then we never saw her again until I had to find her well into our meal (someone else dropped the food off). She then dropped off our check without a word, even though I really wanted the banana cream pie. They would benefit from having a person whose job it is to refill drinks if their wait staff is too busy. Some training on asking, "would you like anything else?" wouldn't hurt, either. read more

The WORST breakfast experience I've had in a long time. Everything was cold, and the service was inept and abusive (the waitress yelled at us (literally) for switching plates when we were trying to fix her delivery error). A strange and sad experience - I used to go here as a kid and enjoyed it thoroughly. Head to Walker Brothers instead. read more

Nice restaurant, clean, reasonable prices and good variety. The place underwent a complete renovation in 2004 which took almost a year to finish, but it was worth the wait. It is now considerably bigger and much brighter and inviting interior, and a liquor license was added, so you can have a glass of wine or beer with your meal. The place is owned by a friendly Greek family, who runs the day to day operations. The quality of food is surprisingly good for a small restaurant and it is very reasonably priced. Mostly American and some International and of course some Greek items on the menu. Expect to spend aobut $15-20 per person including a glass of wine or a beer. The entire place is non smoking, but that is a Wilmette ordinance now. Kid friendly menu and accomodations. Open for Breakfast 7 days a week. Hope that helped. December 2005 read more

Not pleased at all! Horrible customer service! We went in for lunch with our children and the waitress was just rude and short. Online menu is different then the actual "Restaurant" menu so beware. I asked the waitress about two specific items that I had seen on the online menu prior to arriving at the restaurant. She was again rude and short and said "The online menu is wrong, we changed it a few months ago." So we had a few other questions about the menu and it was as if we were just a HUGE inconvenience to her. We ordered and received food which in our opinion for the most part was not very good and not somewhere we will eat again. The tomatoes in the Cobb salad were bad. The kids Mac n cheese came out with chunks of half melted cheese. After our food was delivered, the waitress came back one time about 5 minutes after delivery and asked if we needed boxes. I have been eating at Ridgeview weekly for several years now, and I love this place. The service is excellent. Dishes I like: the Garden Delight, Mediterranean and fiesta omelettes; any Benedict; the hash browns; the black and blue burger; the ahi tuna salad and sandwich; the soups; the Caesar Salad with chicken or blackened steak; the Cobb; the Tuna Melt; the lemony chicken; the turkey dinner. The atmosphere is nice, it's not loud, you rarely need to wait, and it's a very comfortable place to eat by yourself. WiFi. Really, it's a very decent, honest, solid place to have a meal. read more

Ridgeview is our favorite neighborhood restaurant, and we've been eating here with family and friends several times a month for years. The interior is super clean and pleasant with lots of comfy booths. Owners and waitstaff are always warm and accommodating. Saturday and Sunday breakfast is usually packed but somehow they manage to keep any wait time to a minimum. Greek Kayiana eggs, Belgian waffles w/strawberries, apple pecan crepes and the Mexican Fiesta omelette are family favorites. Dinners and lunches are quieter. The extensive menu offerings include great Greek lamb chops and burgers, pastas, salads and sandwiches. The Intellgentsia coffee is very good. Ridgeview offers smoothies, tasty homemade shakes and a nice beer (several craft and Belgian varieties) and wine selection as well. When the weather warms up, several small tables are set up outside for those who prefer to dine al fresco. read more

The tomato barley soup was a nice change and tasty. I had a moist tender pork chop on a nice plate presentation of asparagus and other vegetables. There's a lot of expensive competition on the North Shore and Ridgeview Grill is great for family breakfasts, lunch meetings and a nice neighborhood dinner. Prices are reasonable and the staff is great. Also, it's a much nicer atmosphere than the average Chicago-style coffee shop and they have a nice meeting room in the back. My family and I have been coming to this outstanding neighborhood restaurant for over 50 years and never leave disappointed. The breakfast is very good, omelette's are my favorite, especially the Mediterranean. My wife's is the Gypsy Skillet and our daughter loves the Nutella Crepes. Lunch has excellent salads, burgers, quesadillas and their daily soup specials. Speaking of soup, try their amazingly tasty french onion. I usually order french onion at most restaurants I go to that have it on the menu, but Ridgeview Grill's is the best I've had in the Chicago area. The dinner menu is also quite good, with features like Greek Skirt Steak, Real Roasted Turkey with mashed potatoes and stuffing, Nice Pasta dishes and most nights specials. The Servers, Wait Help and Kitchen Staff are friendly, welcoming people, who make you feel like family. Owners Dean and Valerie have kept up the fine tradition their Dad John began many years ago and if your lucky enough, you just might see John looking over things a few times per week. read more
