SO....after picking a bike up at a Big box store, I customized it and took the Bike shaped object…read moreto the Local Bike Shoppe in the hopes of getting them to Fit the bike to me like I thought was their Forte along with checking my work on the Fenders and Rack...well after 3 days in the shop I came in and told one of the Mechanics that I was here to pick up my bike. He rolled it out and to the register we went where he ran my card and said thank you and another Gentleman opened the door...I never asked a question other than how is the bike and the Mechanic said "He Did not work on it". Now I may be off base here but I took my bike to a shop and when I came home I find that the Rear wheel is only hand Tightened on Both sides...the bike is still dirt and here where fresh grease smudges on parts of the frame. I asked them to take off a computer bracket and replace the Zip ties for screws on the Front fenders...I also asked them to True the wheels as I am not skilled enough to attempt that.....I fully admit that taking the Rear wheel off was an experience for me as I scratched the drive side bolt pretty Good....I was checking the bike over when I got home and found that the nut was still beat up and decided to check it and it was LOOSE....so I grab a wrench and attempt to fix it myself....Well I tighten one side and the darn thing will not turn...I loosen that and try the other side....same result...How am I to ride this?....when I pay money for a check of work I expect a GOOD job an at least an attempt to see if the all is Kosher....now I have a bike that looks alright but I am scared to ride it outside of a few blocks.... At the end of the day I cannot recommend this place even though I have seen it all the years of my life and to put out the door with a swipe of a card and no mention of who they are or an attempt at selling me anything is something I will not tolerate and think that they may be on the way of other businesses where easy money makes LAZY people....So keep my $50 dollars and know that I will write this again and again until I have no other places to. The estimate & inspection was completely free and helped me gauge the approximate cost and what needed to be done. I elected to pretty much conduct all the repairs and fixes to my bike, knowing the quality and performance of parts I would be receiving. Upon retrieval of my bike the costs were exactly as stated and the service again was excellent. My bicycle looks BRAND NEW and I'm very happy with it.

And on an on an on an on and on. And on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on. And on and on and on and on and on an on and on and on and on and on. It was a long time. I waited. And I waited some more. I did some serious waiting five feet away in a red sweater. No acknowledgment. No letting me know it might be a while. But that would've likely stopped the upselling I started to see. So I turned me and my bike around and left. It's hard for me to be on my feet that long. That's why I bike. Dood has a right to be into his subject matter. Usually shops want you to feel comfortable and respected as somewhat of a priority, even if you aren't being directly pitched at the moment... it just was not a good vibe. All doods working there when I was in. Way heavy on the dood vibe. Captive audience syndrome. Sigh. Dood has to do what a dood does. I avoid places like this. Going to the bike collective in Rogers Park instead next time.

Other years we've adopted a used bike that needs some TLC. This week they are working on upgrades to my kids' road bikes to make them better suited to racing on the velodrome in Northbrook. As always, the guy who helped us (Kyle) was knowledgeable about the options and had good advice about how to proceed. I knew that would be the case and knew that the shop is always fair about labor costs, which is why I brought the bikes back from Northbrook to have the work done. Long story short, this place is great, and you won't regret giving it your business.
