The plan worked great: got off the train at Beverly Shores, grabbed some snacks, rented some bikes. They even found us one with a basket to carry our supplies, and recommended a nice loop to the Century of Progress Houses nearby, which was easy to do in the way to the State Park. On the return, I screwed up and didn't allow enough time to get back to meet the train. I turned in my bike, but my son got to the train platform just as it was time to leave. I ended up leaving his bike on the platform and calling the store to come get it, and they covered for my bonehead move. In short, they went above and beyond what I expected. We had a great time, apart from having to rush back, but that was all my fault. Highly recommend.

Dood has a right to be into his subject matter. Usually shops want you to feel comfortable and respected as somewhat of a priority, even if you aren't being directly pitched at the moment... it just was not a good vibe. All doods working there when I was in. Way heavy on the dood vibe. Captive audience syndrome. Sigh. Dood has to do what a dood does. I avoid places like this. Yes, incredibly scary. My partner could have died due to the owner 1) pulling a bait and switch and 2) not checking and ensuring the safety of the bike.
