Leo is great! He couldn't make it over to help me but he gave me instructions to help me fix the problem on my own. Thank you, Leo!

I've been talking about wanting a new bike so I can start to ride some distance for several years…read morenow. A friend of mine has started riding century rides and other craziness, so I thought I would ask for his advice on what to get. Since he lives up north, he got his bike from Buck's about 3 years ago, so while visiting, we decided to head up and take a look. I kind of knew what I was looking for because I have a friend who does exactly what I'm wanting to do. I knew I was looking for an entry-level carbon road bike, but I didn't want to pay an arm and a leg. I had no clue what size, so actually being about to touch and get on the bikes was definitely something I needed to do, and Buck's was the place to do it. I arrived on a Saturday about 40 minutes before closing. There were a number of other people in the store, so we started walking around and looking at the frames. We looked for about 20 minutes, got bikes off the racks, got on them, and had walked into another area of the store before anyone even acknowledged we were there. Granted, they were busy and it was almost closing time, but I would have liked some form of acknowledgement, especially as we started pulling bikes off the racks. By the time someone came up to us, I had pretty much made my mind up on what I wanted and that I would do some research on the bike before I purchased it. Had someone come up early on and spent some time with me, I might have walked out with a new bike yesterday. My friend needed a new tube for his bike, and since they were right next to the cashier, she was extremely helpful. The store is well laid out with a great selection - almost overwhelming to someone like me who really thought there was only one kind of bike until recently. In all fairness, I'll be back here because it's a local business, they have a great selection, and I've heard you can wheel and deal on older model stuff. I'm also certain that they were busier than normal because it was one of the first nice days out and everyone else was shopping for a bike, it was Saturday, and it was almost closing time. Just expect a bit of a wait if you come in when they're busy.

And they tried to talk me into buying a much more expensive electric bike when I specifically said I didn't want an ebike. Crummy customer service and bad business practices.

The main issue I had before the purchase, was the wheel was very loose from a worn out wheel bearing. They agreed to replace before i purchased the vehicle however the first repair lasted 2 days before I had to bring it back. then the next repair lasted one day, and now they are giving me hard time when I call to schedule a 4th repair. apparently they are the ones that are frustrated with the situation? first of all hire a mechanic that knows what he's doing, second don't try and sell a car that wasn't properly inspected. Now it's been a week and check engine light is flashing. gotta love em. never buy anything from these clowns.

I'll try this…read more I had to listen to a performative dood talk emanating from the floor worker to a customer about chain lubricant that went on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on. And on an on an on an on and on. And on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on. And on and on and on and on and on an on and on and on and on and on. It was a long time. I waited. And I waited some more. I did some serious waiting five feet away in a red sweater. No acknowledgment. No letting me know it might be a while. But that would've likely stopped the upselling I started to see. So I turned me and my bike around and left. It's hard for me to be on my feet that long. That's why I bike. Dood has a right to be into his subject matter. Usually shops want you to feel comfortable and respected as somewhat of a priority, even if you aren't being directly pitched at the moment... it just was not a good vibe. All doods working there when I was in. Way heavy on the dood vibe. Captive audience syndrome. Sigh. Dood has to do what a dood does. I avoid places like this. Going to the bike collective in Rogers Park instead next time.

Other years we've adopted a used bike that needs some TLC. This week they are working on upgrades to my kids' road bikes to make them better suited to racing on the velodrome in Northbrook. As always, the guy who helped us (Kyle) was knowledgeable about the options and had good advice about how to proceed. I knew that would be the case and knew that the shop is always fair about labor costs, which is why I brought the bikes back from Northbrook to have the work done. Long story short, this place is great, and you won't regret giving it your business.
