An appointment was booked, and he texted to let me know he was on his way and how soon he would arrive. Absolutely on time. He serviced and repaired two 28-year-old Performance Mountain bikes. When he was finished, they were literally better than new. One bike needed no new parts, just a tune up. The other needed a new brake cable and tune up. The work was completed in just over an hour. Mitch test drove both bikes and had us do the same. He also adjusted heights, removed an unwanted set of pedal covers, and gave us tips on shifting. Kind, professional and financially reasonable. During that time, I managed to put 3300 miles on the bike; and on my last ride, I had two spokes break on me. I briefly thought about doing the repair myself, but I've heard truing a wheel can be a tedious process, so I decided to look up Bike Gallery. They had an opening the following Thursday, so I dropped it off one Saturday, and picked it up the next (I live 40 min. away). While it was there, I also had them do a "Deluxe Tune-Up" and replace my chain (which I had purchased, but hadn't installed). The work was completed on Thursday, as expected, and they called to let me know it was ready; and that everything went as expy. I had calculated the total based on rates listed on their website, and was pleasantly surprised to see the total bill was lower than expected. A drivetrain cleaning was part of the tune-up, so the bike looks great; and they have a 30 ride warranty, should any issues pop up with their repair work. I'm very happy with my experience, for sure.

I paid this shop to perform a standard tubeless sealant service. When I took my bike out for a…read moreride, the wheel felt completely off-balance and heavy, even though they assured me the job was done. Suspecting an issue, I removed the tire myself, and what I found was shocking (see attached photo). Instead of properly removing the tire, cleaning out the old, hardened, massive latex ball (a 'sealant monster'), and then adding fresh liquid, they apparently just injected new sealant right over the top of this hardened clump. A basic part of tubeless service is cleaning the tire. By failing to do so, they wasted my money, made my bike unsafe to ride (due to the severe imbalance), and completely missed a standard maintenance step. When you pay a professional shop, you expect professional service, not a lazy shortcut that leaves a huge, hardened glob inside your tire. I would strongly caution others about getting basic maintenance done here if this is the standard of work they allow out of their service bay.

I made an appointment and went in first thing in the morning to have RideWrap (purchased for $180…read moreelsewhere) installed on my bike. I was told I would be charged the hourly labor rate of $95/hour to install, but I would be called if it would take longer than two hours. The employee appeared to think it would take between one and two hours to complete. The next morning, I got a call saying the bike was ready for pickup and that it took them 5.5 hours to do the installation. I was never contacted to be told that the job would be taking longer than two hours. They charge me $250 for the job and act like they're doing me a favor. If I had been contacted - as I was told I would be - or if this price was presented when I dropped off the bike, I might have been fine with it. But charging more than $190 in this situation is unethical at best. After doing a bit more research, every shop I found that offers installation of RideWrap specifically (instead of just charging an hourly rate) charges $150. I need other parts and more work to get done on the bike, but now that will have to be taken care of elsewhere. Unrelated note: the parking situation at/around the shop isn't great.

I was told the labor cost, the price of the new wheel, and rim tape. I have never heard of "non-inventory costs". It was explained as "talc for the rim, use of rags, and other non inventory items" -at least that's what I thought I heard when I asked what it was. That's a lot of powder and rags. This mobile bike repair company comes to my work quarterly. I've been able to have them service my…read morebike twice and I 100% back their work! Firstly, I commute 6 miles one way and drop my kid off at daycare. I'm also a big dude so I know things on my bike get loose and wear down based on the weight and use of the bike. Left Coast is amazing!! They listen to what I perceive is wrong with the bike and provide feedback based on what they see at the point of inspection. As they work on the bike they'll text me about other items they spot and when they are finished. Each time I've spoken with them and worked with them, they make you feel informed, educated, and comfortable. I've been to a few local companies in North Portland that after I drop my bike off they make me feel bad about the components on my bike, trying to upsell just about everything. For this reason and the experience I've had with LCB, I'm staying with them. It also helps that they show up to my work, which is a huge value-add to my busy work/family life.
