My kiddo and I were diving at Canyon Lake Saturday and Sunday mornings this weekend so we opted to grab a breakfast taco on the way. Rico's is in a perfect pull-off-the-highway-grab-tacos-and-go location on 281 northbound so we swung in on Saturday and grabbed a couple of good tacos on fresh tortillas. I noted that the door listed them as open on Sunday in case the tacos were worth a repeat, great! Tacos were good so the plan for Sunday was the same. Unfortunately, when we swung off the highway Sunday morning I saw a conspicuously empty parking lot, which was not the case on Saturday morning. Drove up to the door, sure enough, dark and empty inside, and sure enough, the door did say they were open Sundays. Oh well, we went another exit closer to CL and got tacos there (also good). The tacos at Rico's were solid, I would get them again, just not on a Sunday :) read more

Spicy and awesome because of that! But no warning lol! I went in here because it was the only breakfast place open on Sunday, all the employees were very friendly so I asked the youngest guy what his favorite was, a green pork with cheese I said okay let's get one and then a chicharrone and salsa. Well I ate my pork and cheese first and it was delicious! I would have bought 2 now! They didn't have that in the front, but it was yummmm. Then I got to chicharrones which I picked out of the front and it was spicy too! But good, not great. I'd probably get it with something like chorizonor cheese next time! But good! We've been going to Ricos for almost a decade. Delicious hot food. I went today for breakfast. I stood in line after my order to pay behind 3 others. The first was in some kind of debate with the cashier. he left without food. the second held his wallet open and was in debate with cashier too. he gave cashier a bill, cashier wanted more, he hesitantly gave cashier another bill, then again. third person in debate also. all conversation was in Spanish. I decided to sit down while they settled. My 1 taco was ready. handed to me, no bag no napkin, no plate. had to ask for plate for eat-in. bill was totaled, screen showed $9.99! $4 for coffee?? I think not. Cashier unable to speak English. I said this is not right. he insisted. a girl came out, she said that's right 1 cup coffee $4. I handed her $10. walked back to my table. Now, she calls out "sir it's $11.79. I said screen showed total 9.99. she had cleared the screen. wanted 2 more dollars! Change name of this place to Ricos defraud embezzlement taco. This place is the absolute best! Hard to find an authentic taco joint like this. Staff is very friendly, food is always delicious. My go to is the Tacos Nortenos, can't get enough of it. Small establishment and can get very packed, but that's a good thing! People love it. Give it a shot! Definitely easy to miss in that shopping center. read more

Took my friend here for lunch and I was impressed with the Mexican Plate.. Especially the enchiladas. Being originally from Corpus, I love mexican food and when I find good enchiladas, I tend to go back quite often. The staff were nice and helped me with my Spanish while I helped them with their English. Very good, overall experience and I will go back! read more

Aye! Que Rico! This Bulverde taco stand does some bueno Mexican food! They have large portions, and they're generally quick. They do some real steady business, with there usually being a line for lunch. The menu is pretty much different variations of meat, cheese, beans, tortillas in different varieties. I got the huarache, which is an open faced sandwich covered in pork al pastor. It was piled high and incredibly filling. We also got a taco plate which had a loco amount of tacos- again, piled high and delicious. They have salsas on some of the tables, but not all, so you gotta poach a bottle as soon as you get in the door. Start hunting for the salsa before you get your order! It's kinda annoying how they seem to make one dish at a time, so my dining companion's dish came out about 7 minutes before mine. But we split up the dishes, so it was bueno. My favorite part of this restaurant is the dishes- some of them are custom made for the restaurant in a pottery painting shop somewhere. I love the plates that depict flowers and tacos, with "Rico's" written across the top. My least favorite thing is the dang menu- it's on a series to television sets, and keeps switching up the view as soon as you find what you want and reading the description, it flips to the other menu, and you gotta stand there slack-jawed waiting for it to change back so you can finish reading about the salsa options. Grrr. The restaurant is situated in a strip shopping mall just off 281. You can cut to it if you're going southbound by going through the back streets and avoid the whole turnaround on the highway. read more

First off, this is one of the best breakfast taco joints in the area and I have been coming here for years. Definitely 4 to 5 star food! Unfortunately, the lady that works the counter cannot remember your order to save her life. I've been here close to 50 times in my life and she has incorrectly made my order, probably 40 times. Doesn't matter if you order in English or Spanish, high likelihood it will be incorrect. Went in today and the restaurant was full of people standing around the front with messed up orders. Just write it down, problem solved! I usually don't return food, but after 3 attempts to get what I ordered today, I let her know about it. Then she mad-dogs me the rest of the time. Sadly, I will not return. You don't get to be this bad at work on a daily basis. read more

Absolutely delicious. you can't go wrong at this place if your looking for great breakfast tacos! The tortillas are made right there in the back and then filled to order. You can even buy the homemade tortillas hot and fresh by the dozen. Anything you want, they can make. I'm from Chicago and I'm here visiting some family. They said this was a new place that opened up that we needed to try. So we ordered to 2 Huaraches, one with steak (Asada) and the other with pork (pastor) and pork torta. Everything was Mexican food not that TexMex that I def. didn't want because I can't stand texmex. The huaraches actually had queso fresco not nasty cheddar cheese that no Mexican ever uses in there food. The Torta was HUGE and the pastor had a lot of flavor! You might want to ask if they can cut it in half to make it easier to eat. Edit: I went back to Ricos tacos recently and my wife found a maggot in her lemonade. My wife was so disgusted she just threw the lemonade on the ground outside so I couldn't snap a pic for proof. We will definitely not be going back there again. read more

New place in the neighborhood. Small Mom and Pop taco shop. Went to pick up a few tacos for breakfast. Homemade tortillas. Relatively good selection for breakfast, yes, they had my favorite already made, chorizo con papas (mostly papas), very light on the chorizo. The potatoes had been sitting out a while and were getting spongy. That will happen when all your tacos ingredients are made beforehand and placed in those cafeteria style warmers. The wife had carne guisada and she says it was GREAT. She also had a egg and sausage. Nothing special. The also supply you with salsa in a very small (quarter size) container. 2 containers for 4 tacos just won't cut it. There is just enough in one for one taco. There was an acceptable amount of heat in the salsas, one green and one red. This is an authentic Mexican style cafe. Open at 6 AM and close at 3 PM so don't go for supper. read more

I honestly think the specialty tacos are pretty dang good.... although, I'm not happy about how unorganized they are...I know this is going to sound weird coming from a white guy, but I also feel discriminated against there. And that's why I gave Rico's 3 stars. Ex. I'm 4th in line behind some hard working customers and hear as they walk up "como esta?" And "buenos diaz" to each and then I walk up....crickets. I get that blank stare and then it turns awkward... I wait a minute and stare back just to see if I get some kinda greeting, and nothing. So I go ahead and order the HAVEN TACO, but then I was corrected, " you want the "HEAVEN" taco?". Rico's your taco is spelled incorrectly.... but what do I know I'm just some cry baby white dude. I've visited this restaurant 1/2 dozen times and it's the same service. I hope the customer service improves because the taco place across the highway is just as bad if not worse. By the way I'm married to a Mexican or from her mouth "Spanish decent". Point is I'm not racist. 7 months We'll be moving closer to that area so they better get used to me. read more

This was once good, we really enjoyed sunday morning barbacoa and menudo there dozens of times, however their food quality and service has gone way down. I was really craving their breakfast burrito, beans, rice, egg, bacon sausage, with gravy today. I ordered it to eat-in with coffee. There was no coffee, I asked and got an intelligible answer, They used to serve at tables, but today i got a bag held in the air and shouted at to come get it. I was handed a to-go bag with 2 tacos. I returned it. after a 10 minute wait I was again shouted at and I went to the counter and I was handed a large soft sheet of foil with something cold in it. I had to ask for a plate, and again asked for coffee. another intelligible reply. I opened my "breakfast burrito" to find a flat cold flour tortilla with beans, lettuce, tomatoes, and 2 strips of nearly raw bacon on top, sprinkled with cold shredded cheese. still no coffee. I did not eat, was charged $12, I think I got somebody else's food. went to whataburger. read more

It would be zero stars if I could. We are new to the area and couldn't wait to try this place. I couldn't believe what I saw when I opened the foil. I ordered 3 bacon and egg tacos for my husband and myself. All we got was egg, with a piece of bacon here and there. When you pick up tacos on the weekend that's a pretty good indicator to all involved you don't want to cook. Well I had to cook up some sausage to put in the tacos once I got home.
