Lot of potential in this small, cozy, Mexican restaurant. My partner and I came in on a Friday evening around 7:00pm. The very nice outdoor seating area was packed and rightfully so. The outdoor area is a highlight of the restaurant in my opinion. We decided to sit inside the small, whisper quiet, dining room. The space is small but well organized with the night amount of tables. The service was very slow. There was plenty of wait staff and many of them were just standing around. This was a real bummer for me as good service would have potentially given this place a better overall rating. The chips and salsa were meh. Salsa was just fine but the chips were overly fried/burned but served cold as though they had been sitting all day. We ordered some guacamole to accompany our salsa. $5.50 was a reasonable price and it was a nice size portion. Very blan. Could have used some more salt in my opinion but that could just be me. Both of our entrees were actually pretty solid. I say actually as I was feeling like this was going to be a complete bust leading up to this point. My chicken was a little dry but great flavor in the dish. My partner's burrito was huge and flavorful. This has some potential to be significantly better. I am new to the area and so I called to ask questions before placing my order on Uber Eats. I wanted chicken and shrimp fajitas and the wonderful lady Karen who answered my call told me how to order it and said she would personally make sure it was done correctly. Her customer service was definitely refreshing and appreciated. The food... I ordered queso add fresh jalapeños. It was good, typical queso. Wish it was a bit spicier, the fresh jalapeños didn't add much heat. Guacamole, disappointing. It was loose like watered down in a way and very bland. Fajitas had no flavor. They needed some seasoning bad. Some spice, some lemon or lime juice and some salt. The customer service was great tho. read more

We have lived in Acworth for 10 years and come to Rico's often. I want to be honest, the food is Excellent, the drink menu (mainly the margaritas) are excellent. The Atmosphere (especially on their quaint patio) is excellent. The service - primary terrible. We love the owner, when she is around, she is attentive and very personable. She greets us and always is sweet to our toddler. But the wait staff tends to overturn (with exception of a few good servers) quite often. I asked the waitress we had last time what made the skinny margarita "skinny" and she said it was because it had two limes in it..... I asked again and she said the same thing, so I said no thanks and ordered a Diet Coke. Wait times are typically fast at a Mexican joint, but here, it's hit or miss. 3 out of 4 which keeps us coming back as I love the proximity to our home and that I love supporting local businesses. But if we are in the mood for good service, we go elsewhere in town. read more

So I hear the guy at the next table say, "we pass this place all the time and I've been intrigued." Being the person that I am -- I'm not particularly shy -- I turn around and say, "that's exactly why we're here!" From the road across from the railroad tracks, I always thought the restaurant looked like something one would find in Mexico. The outside patio and the bright colored building caught my eye. To be candid, my rating should really be three-and-change, but I ordered the wrong thing. Not their fault. The gals working outside were as nice as nice can be, which contributes to my upgraded rating. Okay! The chips are crisp, the salsa spicy and perfect (!) and a pitcher of frozen margaritas, cheap ($20!). I like my margaritas a little fruitier, but no complaints. (Though I guess saying I like it fruitier IS a complaint!) I ordered enchiladas with shrimp and lobster. While I thought to say, "please put the cheese topping on the side," I neglected to specify tortilla. They default to corn ..... which I dislike. The shrimp were small, the lobster was I think crawfish. And while the dish wasn't bad I wouldn't order it again. What made the afternoon pleasant was the atmosphere, basking in the sun. And people watching! There were bikers, old folks, teenagers out for lunch -- just a diversity of customers, some with their well-mannered dogs. I will be back! And I'll order something else! Traveling out of state, I decided to stop at this location since I was craving tacos. I ordered 6 carne asada tacos, and some other items (beans, flan, etc). For starters the service was slow, I waited roughly 25-30 minutes for a Togo order, which I normally don't let bother me since I understand staffing issues, etc. I wasn't offered my drink that I ordered while waiting though (I ordered horchata). My main reason for this post isn't about the ambiance, but mainly the taste and quality of the tacos. The tortillas seemed handmade, but were extremely soggy and had the taste of fish which was weird. The carne asada was very bland, this is the first time I've ever had bad tacos. I came by around 8:45 pm at night, and I'm wondering if maybe this is why my experience isn't up to expectations. Frozen tamales didn't offer to make it right. Wrong tacos... ordered beef no cheese got chicken with cheese. Cheese had to be melted in the microwave at the bar. Where do I start!? With the MARGARITAS of course! Rico's has to be one of the most authentic Mexican joints I've ever been to. Rico's is a small, no, tiny spot across from a railroad track that serves amazing food and bomb margaritas, especially the Agave margaritas. The chips and salsa was freshly made and the waitress kept them coming through out our entire dining experience unlike most places that stop once the entrees are brought to the table. I ordered the Texas fajita's and everything was prepared exceptionally well, the steak and chicken was tender, the shrimp was fresh and wasn't cooked to a pulp. Ordered Chicken Enchiladas with salsa verde (2), the chicken egg roll appetizer and combo of taco and two chicken enchiladas via Door Dash. All the food came with beef which we do not eat. We were starving and this place had favorable ratings. The appetizer was good but because we don't eat beef could not even taste anything else. It was a bit of a struggle to get a refund the Door Dash agent first offered $6 refund on a $54 order. Eventually the restaurant closed and we were unable to re order. I suggest going to the restaurant but because we are on the road riding to the hotel late Sunday was desirable. Bad first impression however. We have been coming here for years for a simple dinner out, drinks, or lunch. Expanding the parking lot and putting in an outdoor bar was a big win for them, the outside seating is much nicer. The only problem with the patio is that people are allowed to smoke, so sitting outside in such a small space with kids and the door to the restaurant being open makes it unappealing to sit and eat. Service is always wonderful, they are kind, interact with the kids, ask qualifying questions when ordering, quick to bring out drinks and food, zero issues with service. The food is good basic Mexican, solid for a local neighborhood restaurant. It's always consistent and I like they have things on the menu that most others don't. My favorite is the Poblano Chicken! Sitting inside isn't the best, it's a little small and dark, so when it gets busy it can get warm easily but it doesn't stop us. This last time I wasn't super hungry and got the Tres Amigos Tacos and added tomato, it was great and the right amount of food. My margarita was chilled and yummy. Don't come with high expectations or compare to somewhere like Zama, but it is a great local neighborhood restaurant and we will continue to support it. read more

Terrific hidden gem of Acworth. Rico's a little mom-and-pop hole-in-the-wall business. The actual building and parking lot are pretty small (there's more parking in the back). But boy is it worth the trip. The food is outstanding. Authentic Mexican, and you can get just about any dish from a shrimp burger to fajitas to less-available traditional Mexican dishes whose name I don't even know (one of my pals got a dish that was served in a big cast iron bowl; wish I knew what it was!). Prices are pretty good. Expect about $10/head, more with drinks, appetizers, desserts, the like. These additions are also worthwhile! The atmosphere is good; a bit cramped, but welcome. Neat pictures and Mexican adobe-plaster-like walls. There is outdoor seating. Service is good. Many of the staff are not English-first-language, but they have little trouble understanding English-speakers. I reckon if you're a Spanish speaker, you're in good shape! know the restaurants where you need to check the bad...real reviews first...this is it if you love eating with 1000 flies. This is your joint. People smoking on the patio ( not even sure if there's a patio to eat on or it was just a bunch of friends and employees out there) but the smoke was heavy inside the small restaurant. Air conditioning was non-existent and it was hot in there. Air flow was so bad. Essentially every time somebody opened the front door all the smoke from the back door would suck into the restaurant. Our order was fairly simple. Two of us got the fajitas. Beef and chicken. One got a pork dish and another got cheese enchiladas. What was strange is that our server spoke zero English. Normally it's OK because I can just point to what I want on the menu but she didn't really seem to know the menu that well. And she kept having to have another server come over to interpret despite the fact that we were pointing at things on the menu. I when the food came it didn't take too long and everything was presented very well. However hoping that a hole in the wall restaurant is typically quite good and it had seemingly good reviews we dug in to the most disgusting Mexican food I have ever eaten in my life. I had the chicken fajitas. I'm not sure it was the best quality chicken. It was full of gristle as were the beef fajitas. I ended up eating around the chicken because I was hungry but the flavor just wasn't there. My mother who likes thing just about as bland as they can be asked for something else because the enchiladas had no flavor. My brother ate all his food because he was defending his choice of restaurant that day. we could not believe that I filthy place like this cost almost $100 with tip. Instead they gave mi pablo relleno instead of the Chile relleno. The food was all good; however, the food has mucho queso y it made it very salty. I would give it a 4 because they messed up the order, but I also got their fried ice cream. Mmmmmm, they were good. They are listed on the menu under Tacos. Three tacos with onions & cilantro, served with rice & beans + a salad. The rice & beans were tasty and the salad, served in a crispy tortilla bowl, is excellent. It was SO MUCH food. I had to take one taco home. I might have been able to finish the meal if I didn't drink two Tecates. The staff is friendly, fun and on top of things. I really like Rico's and plan to visit often.
