Hidalgo's Bar & Grill worked well for what I needed it for--a business meeting where the goal was a comfortable setting and reliable food. While the menu didn't blow me away and didn't lean heavily into authenticity, everything was fine overall. The food was decent, portions were reasonable, and nothing came out poorly prepared. It's not the kind of place I'd seek out specifically for standout Mexican cuisine, but it's also not somewhere I'd avoid. What really made it work was the atmosphere. It was relaxed enough to have a conversation without feeling rushed, and service was attentive without hovering, which is exactly what you want during a meeting. All in all, it got the job done. After living in the area for a while, we finally decided to try Hidalgo's. The food was good, the service was good, and our stomachs are happy. The place is set up to be a Mexican cantina. I will say it was a little dark inside, but our booth had light. Next time we may try outdoor seating. I ordered bean nachos and had a plateful of food. I did pay extra for lettuce, tomatoes, and sour cream. The cheese dip had a good flavor. The chips were a little thicker than I prefer, but tasted ok. Overall, I enjoyed my meal. The prices did seem on the higher side, but these days everything is so expensive it's hard to judge. And you do get a lot of food. We will be back - nice to have options nearby. read more

Go for lunch, will surprise you. Was recommended by a friend of a friend as the most authentic Mexican in GA. I'm going to say as a former Texan, I will be back. I want to recognize the amazing customer service I received. This waitress is truly a hard worker--you can tell she's dedicated because she's always moving, helping customers, and staying on top of everything. I didn't see her standing around once she told me her name was monse and she was sweet with my kids.Even though I had a rude encounter with another girl this waitress completely turned my experience around with her kindness and professionalism. Been coming here 20 years despite the food and service being very sub par. Me and a friend of mine stopped in today (Easter) basically because it was the only place open. My friend asked if they would make the wings spicier than normal, and somehow the waitress turned it around and started sprouting out racism accusations then refused both of us service despite the exchange was between her and my friend. We're visiting for a few days from Texas, so stopped here for a late lunch. The food is pretty good...not great, but good. BUT, the service was the absolute WORST we've ever experienced. We sat at the bar and the woman (she's got pinkish hair and a bad attitude) was resentful when we ordered our drinks. Then, it took at least 20 minutes to get her attention to take our order. She NEVER came back to ask if we needed anything else, a drink...nothing. My husband usually tips VERY well and he tipped almost nothing. We do not recommend. I would avoid this place at all costs. I used to be a Loredos queen, for over a decade. Loredos off Barrett used to be THE place for a fresh marg, cheese dip and fajitas . I've officially converted over to Hidalgo's for good. I remember going to Hidalgo's years and years ago and not liking it at all. There's no question in my mind Hidalgo's got new management because everything is a complete 180.... New vibe, new food, new taste... Everything is delicious, and the margs are fantastic. I highly recommend giving it a try if you've had a bad experience in years past. If I eat out, it's at Hidalgo's. Love it, crave it, and always pleased with my food . Service is also always friendly and attentive. They've done a great job turning this place around. All the negative reviews are from YEARS ago other than someone not liking prices. Prices are a little expensive but tbh what place isn't these days? It's still affordable. I'm not sure why - but there's no signage on this restaurant - at least none I could see - just the words 'MEXICAN RESTAURANT.' So before entering, while sitting in the parking lot, I googled Tuesday Morning Dallas Hwy. Then used Tuesday Morning address, coupled with 'Mexican restaurant' to determine restaurant was called Hidalgo's. I checked out both the Yelp (3 stars) and Google (4 stars) reviews and decided to give them a try. Pretty awful visit. I was so disappointed. Because upon entering the establishment I thought I was going to have a great visit. The hostess kind of ignored me at first but when she was done speaking with her com-padres. She eventually turned to me, gave me a big smile and asked me if I was just one. I chuckled and said yes and she led me over to a bright sunny booth. After some deliberation I decided to go with the plain chicken quesadilla. Plain as in no vegetables just chicken and cheese. (The server hovered near me anxiously waiting the entire time because there was only one other occupied table so he had nothing else to do but make me feel rushed by standing 3 feet away from my booth and glancing at directly at me every 30 seconds - lol). They have fish tacos but it's grilled tilapia. And they have a plain quesadilla appetizer but no quesadilla meal. They have a 'special' quesadilla that costs about $3.00 more than includes bell peppers and onions, but it's still only served with guac, sour cream, shredded lettuce and one tomato slice. I guess on no one has a quesadilla combo with beans and rice anymore. Sigh! My food was delivered to the table extremely quickly. My first impression was that it looked good, but the portion size wasn't a great value. This appetizer costs over $10 and it was small. My first bite of the quesadilla was pretty underwhelming. I didn't taste any cheese at all but the chicken and buttery toasted tortilla was 'okay.' My second bite I got a good bit of cheese and chicken and things were looking up. I was chewing, happily, and feeling much more optimistic . . . until something sharp poked me in my cheek. I chewed a little more cautiously. Got the poke again. At this point I had to do an inspection. There was a chicken bone fragment - rather large - in the quesadilla bite. I open the quesadilla wedge and took a look. I didn't see anything suspicious - figured accidents happen . . . so I took another bite. And began to chew. Cautiously. Within moments, encountered another bone fragment. I call the waiter over and showed him the bones. He looks at me with a confused look as though he couldn't figure out where the bones came from. Then he asked me if I wanted a beef quesadilla instead. I said no. Let me just have the check. Which he handed to me immediately. I was not given an apology or any sort of discount. And he went from hovering to ghosting after dropping off my debit card. I even waited a beat because I wanted him to top off my 'to-go' cup of water, but he was NOT interested in seeing me again, so after about 6 minutes, I left. And for the first time in life - didn't include a tip. Just got the heck out of there. I brought the other three wedges of the quesadilla home with me. I guess I'll go over them with a freaking magnifying glass - LOL to see if there are any more bone fragments. Otherwise I'll wind up flushing $11 down the drain. read more

The food is way overpriced. I ordered an entree which was the enchiladas verdee priced at $16.00 which was very small and did not come with rice and beans. The small cheese dip was over $8.00 and was like water. I asked the waitress about the cheese dip being so runny, and she said that's the way it is. It also had no flavor. The chips were very thick and hard. I prefer thin chips. I will not go back. read more

I must confess, I am so glad Yelp doesn't have an option for video uploads because the many security cameras here have caught me doing some pretty interesting things on the patio, at the bar and to the poor horse by the front door. During the Summer months we OWN the patio. Every Saturday night we take the corner table with the perfect view of the parking lot (cop watch) and the kitchen (management watch) and literally do not move for 6-8 hours. Sure, friends come and go, and several times I have been tempted to bring a tent but we are treated like family here and half the staff know my name and half my friends cup sizes! I've never met a chip that I absolutely loved, but the salsa here was so darn rooty-tooty good that I didn't care. It was *that* finger licking good. I needed a chip with some sour cream to cool down my taste buds. As per my usual cuisine when at a Mexican restaurant, I went with the carne asada tacos. Just the mere thought of pure steak strips in a soft taco shell made my taste buds salivate and dance in my mouth. Unfortunately, this was not the case here. When my dinner arrived, the steak looked like it may have been microwaved - it was all shriveled up and not the color that steak should be. It should be a nice grilled brown, not gray. I was very disappointed and desired the pure steak strips in my meal. I do remember saying to myself "... this is going to lose a star." I say microwaved for a reason - look at the cheese ... how does cheese melt that way? Hmmm ... heat lamp maybe? Alas, the steak had no flavor, hence forth why I put some salsa on it to give it some taste. That's another star. It's a shame because this location is a prime location ... it could make a fortune, but only if it had good food. But hey - the salsa was good. That's gotta count for something, right? read more

First, let me just say the food and the mango margaritas are SO GOOD! The food and drinks definitely deserve 5 stars, however, the service is seriously lacking. I've been here twice, and both times it's been the same. We get seated, order drinks, then wait...and wait....and wait..... Both times I had to call ANOTHER waiter/ress over to let our's know that we needed/were ready to order. Both times, we waited a long time for chips and salsa. One time our queso got to the table, and got cold before we had to ask our waitress if we were ever going to get chips. Then she had to go warm our cold queso. And it's not like she left and came RIGHT back. Everything seemed like it took forever. The only 2 times during either visit we were "waited" in without having to initiate contact with the staff was when we were seated and when we were given the check. We were never asked if we needed anything else, or if everything was ok.....just "sit here", and "pay." The service deserves 1 star and the food was a 5, so I met just above the middle. Now for Cinco de Mayo, we normally do La Parilla but this year we didn't want all of the crowds so I had passed this location many times and just decided to try it. A family feeling with the hostess crew and even though it was busy, we were seated in about 10 minutes. Margaritas (Mango) - CHECK! Chips and salsa - CHECK! Our waitress was efficient as my first drink spilled... down my throat! I had the fish tacos and they had a nice season and the black beans and rice was moist enough to just leave you wanting more. Stopped in to try Hidalgo's. Our waitress was Jeanette, very prompt. Pina Coladas were delicious. I had the carnitas and the wife had taquitos. Food came super quick! Carnitas were a tad dry, but had good flavor. My wife's chicken taquitos were tiny it was hard to give it a honest review in flavor because they were so tiny. Hmmm... I'm torn between giving this place 4 or 5 stars. We have eaten here before, but it has been awhile. I don't remember anything bad from before. In fact, we used to eat here regularly. I'm going to give 5 because I think that is fair when I can't place my finger on what it is that makes me question. The food tasted wonderful and was very fresh. I love that they are one of not many Mexican restaurants that allow dogs on the patio. (I called the other local favorites place that begins with L and ends with a; they told me they only allow service dogs on their patio.) The service was beyond wonderful! Our waitress was so thoughtful and sweet! She brought a bowl of water for our dog the first time she even approached the table. She kept our drinks full (Unfortunately that is an easy miss for most servers nowadays). The inside atmosphere seems a little dark, but nice. Overall the place is nice, the food is delicious and fresh, and the service is great! So 5 stars it is. read more

We stopped in on the way home to Dunwoody after bike riding on the Silver Comet trail in Paulding. I wanted Mexican and their sign caught us as we drove by on I-30 Dallas Hwy. A quick Yelp check recommended the ChoriQueso appetizer. So good! Spicy meat in melted cheese. My husband enjoyed his Shredded Beef Chimichangas and I was over the moon on my ground beef enchilada with even MORE ChoriQueso in the side! The two tacos were bland and not worth eating. Great service, quick, and pleasant. Plenty of families with young children so be prepared! Next time we're out this way around dinnertime we will be back (just not for the tacos). read more

I have known these folks that own Hidalgo's since back in 1992 when they only had one restaurant, El Nopal on Hwy 41. They have a great family run place, always nice - remember who we are every time we walk through the doors. Hidalgo's is great for just a family evening out or they can accommodate large parties too! The chips, salsa, and cheese dip are excellent along with the Texas Marg. - the jumbo can really knock your socks off!! My family and I usually eat the typical fare - nachos, fajitas, quesadillas - everything is always great and reasonably priced. We eat there almost once a week; we just love it. The only negative is the restrooms - nothing special, and could really use fixing up. Overall, I would recommend this place as it is one of my favorites. read more

This place looks really cool from the outside so the BF and I decided to check it out. It's nice & quite large inside, but since it was such a nice, warm night we decided to have dinner on the patio. The patio is rather small, but cozy and overlooks the main street and shops - not a great view but good enough. Unfortunately smoking is allowed on the patio, which is a big thumbs down (for me anyway). Of course we started with the chips, which were lukewarm (some were cold), and not as light and crispy as I like but at least they weren't greasy. The salsa is nothing special. We ordered guacamole which I usually hate - tastes like baby food to me most of the time. However they make it right at your table and it's chunky and with lots of flavor (I can't remember all they put in it unfortunately) - the first EVER I have actually liked the taste of guacamole! After tearing up about two baskets of chips and guac, we ordered our main dishes. Can't even remember what the BF ordered but I got the two chimichangas - one shredded beef the other shredded chicken. Prefer ground beef, but I was willing to try something different. They were okay. The meat was mediocre, maybe I felt that way cause I wanted ground beef in mine. They were smaller than I thought they would be, but enough to fill me up after all those chips I shoveled in my face earlier. Service was good, they stayed on top of the drinks and were very accommodating.
