Had a chance to finally visit historic Rickwood Field. You don't have to be a baseball nerd or fan of American history to love this venue. Thanks to MLB it has been restored to it's greatness as America's first ballpark. The venue is amazing. I did a quick self-tour and eventually met the grounds keeper. Had a very pleasant conversation as well as his knowledge of the community and MLB's involvement. Very easy to find and once you're there you can feel the spirit of the great ballplayers who competed on this field. This is one of those bucket-list type of venues.

Last Fall we went on a tour here which is available to the public most Saturdays but I do suggest calling ahead to make sure someone will be there. Most recently they hosted a Savannah Bananas game and I really hope this becomes a yearly thing. It was a wonderful experience with a fantastic atmosphere!

The oldest professional ballpark in the United States is located right here in Birmingham Alabama. And it is an absolute icon that should be kept as such for many more years. You can feel the rich history just driving up and walking in. You can feel the more than century old feelings of the stadium as you walk out into the seats. We went in particular for the Rickwood Classic. I have seen the stadium before. But it was very different being there for a ball game. With all of the history of this stadium, you can't complain about updates. Too many updates would take away the charm of this stadium. But they have done enough to keep it up to code while maintaining its history. Even the advertising signs (for the most part) keep up with that early 20th century feel. I thoroughly enjoyed my time here and hope to make it an annual tradition.

Classic American Baseball Venue! Must see if you're in town. The oldest Baseball Park in America! There's a memorabilia market most weekends and you can randomly catch a high school game too.

The world knew of the great Willie Mays, but the story of Rickwood Field deserves a more widely understood significance.

Tickets were half as much as they were in Atlanta so I drove to Birmingham for a mini-break! Parking can be pre-purchased online starting at $20 but there was a line of cars to enter so arrive early. Even though I had $25 nosebleed seats (shoutout to Live Nation's 1/2 off sale), the screens made it easy to see and the acoustics were great! Both performers were AMAZING! The line moved fairly quickly and I had no issues with security or staff (unlike State Farm). But an end row seat meant I had to frequently stand to to let people in. Patrons were super friendly. We all sang along to Maze's "Before I Let Go" as we exited. Rest in heaven Frankie Beverly.. I didn't order anything or use the restrooms so I can't comment on the amenities or food yet. But it was a pleasant experience. I recommend Legacy Arena BJCC and will return. Pics to come on my next visit!

The late great John Denver performed the first concert at the BJCC coliseum (known today as the Legacy Arean) on Sept. 28, 1976! Growing up, the BJCC was a big entertainment destination because few and far between were the "great" entertainment acts who visited my hometown of Huntsville, AL. Over the years, I've seen lots of great acts at the BJCC, including Van Halen [pre Van Hagar days] numerous times starting in August 1981, the legendary The Who on November 30, 1982, Kid Rock numerous times, and attended an excellent Alanis Morisette show here! It's nice to have the Uptown Entertainment District nearby and the extensive modernization of the arena in 2020 enhanced the lighting and sound systems, concessions, and amenities for artists. Well done Majic City!

I also have not been to the Boutwell in decades. lol The event had dedicated parking $30 , at the attached lot. I thought this was insane but being in downtown Birmingham at NOON, parking options are limited. Getting into the event was easy. There was a security checkpoint. However, locating my seat was not easy. The event staff wasn't very helpful. The few I saw. The seating was not clear based on what was printed on the ticket..... I just sat wherever. Pretty much all of the seats were decent at this event. Overall, this was a fun sporting event. I would like to see more workers available to assist guests. Also better signage to help navigate throughout the venue.
