It is a beautiful and elegant venue that has been renovated over the years but kept its identity to its original state. I've attended several events here over the years, from concerts, to movies to guest speakers. My high school graduation was held here back in 1997. There are usually snacks such as popcorn available for purchase and beverages. I don't remember other food being available. The staff is always pleasant and ready to assist. Pro Tip: The seating on the lower level is much more comfy than upstairs, especially if you are hippy or curvy or just want more room. Buy your tickets keeping this in mind.

The seats are short, low and small. They also do not have an elevator. Be prepared to climb many stairs if you don't purchase floor seats. They seemed to have improved the sound system, which really made the musical experience better. I thoroughly enjoyed Orchestra Noir and can't wait to see them again next year. On top of that there are parties and events associated with the festival that are all well worth the price of entry, (which is surprisingly affordable). You can get a big mega-pass that gives you access to everything, or tickets that guarantee seating for certain films that you don't want to miss, or general admission/first come first serve tickets that allow you to roam about and be a bit more spontaneous in deciding what you want to see. Something for everyone at any price point. The venues themselves are generally excellent. From the larger Alabama and Lyric Theaters to the smaller and more intimate Sidewalk Cinema, all the locations are great. The festival itself is well organized, and the area in which it takes place is saturated with delicious food and drink options. Long story short, this is really a must-visit event. It's got something for everyone, is priced just right, runs smoothly and is overall a really great time. If you're thinking about it. Do it. Impossible to regret.

Such a great line up of movies and other opportunities for this year's festival. I'm very excited to actually check out some of the films!! Already got my ticket for opening night+party and really considering getting a Saturday pass. This was my very first time at the cinema. It's a really nice , colorful space! Bar and concessions available. Reasonable prices. Nice / hardworking staff. The theater is small but cozy with comfortable seats. I saw a comedian perform at the Lyric last night, and I really enjoyed the venue. The views of the stage were good from multiple vantage points as I walked around to explore. My seat was in the balcony and also had a good view of the entire stage. The acoustics were good. The entire setting was intimate, which made for great people-watching. The seats are small, but that is to be expected from a historic venue. The staff were universally friendly and helpful. The security personnel were courteous and professional. The bathrooms were clean. Bar service was quick. Lots of paid parking lots within an easy walk of the theater (most seems to be about $10), and if you get there early enough, street parking too (e-meters paid through ParkMobile app Monday-Friday 8a-6p only). Their production was perfect with, the stage scenery, costumes, music and acting. The overall production was amazing. The theatre itself feels like home. I'm not from the Birmingham metro area, but I am a native Alabamian and this place feels like home. The beauty and the quaint coziness is what makes this a great cultural space. Tickets were half as much as they were in Atlanta so I drove to Birmingham for a mini-break! Parking can be pre-purchased online starting at $20 but there was a line of cars to enter so arrive early. Even though I had $25 nosebleed seats (shoutout to Live Nation's 1/2 off sale), the screens made it easy to see and the acoustics were great! Both performers were AMAZING! The line moved fairly quickly and I had no issues with security or staff (unlike State Farm). But an end row seat meant I had to frequently stand to to let people in. Patrons were super friendly. We all sang along to Maze's "Before I Let Go" as we exited. Rest in heaven Frankie Beverly.. I didn't order anything or use the restrooms so I can't comment on the amenities or food yet. The late great John Denver performed the first concert at the BJCC coliseum (known today as the Legacy Arean) on Sept. 28, 1976! Growing up, the BJCC was a big entertainment destination because few and far between were the "great" entertainment acts who visited my hometown of Huntsville, AL. Over the years, I've seen lots of great acts at the BJCC, including Van Halen [pre Van Hagar days] numerous times starting in August 1981, the legendary The Who on November 30, 1982, Kid Rock numerous times, and attended an excellent Alanis Morisette show here! It's nice to have the Uptown Entertainment District nearby and the extensive modernization of the arena in 2020 enhanced the lighting and sound systems, concessions, and amenities for artists. Well done Majic City!
