It is handicap accessible and has an elevator available. There are many restrooms and many places to dine from. Sometimes there are food trucks available on a certain level if you're not wanting the regular stadium food. Parking in the lots on event days costs $20, but unless you get to the venue early, it may be your best option. Also there are restaurants across in Uptown you can eat at before or after your event. Pro Tip: Don't count on the restaurants to be open if your event ends after 10:30ish. Most are closed. Eat before or drive elsewhere.

Also, baseball field is kind of uncommon pick for wedding venue! Overall it was a great experience. There were at least a couple hundred guests, but we had the whole place to ourselves - pretty much the entire day. It was a great celebration with the ceremony being a mixed Indian/Christian wedding! The venue itself was big enough to accommodate some special requests. The ceremony started with the groom riding a horse. Then he switched the back of pickup truck that was blasting music. Everything else was inside, but the night finished with fireworks! I heard that the 'before' pictures were actually taken on the field itself. All of this was within the venue, so that was really nice as a guest.

Okay, okay. I hear your cries, it's understandable :) But am I trying to cheat the system or beat the honorable code? No, lol. I'm just a fan who appreciates sports. But now, here at Protective Stadium in downtown Birmingham, Alabama, I'm ready to change that narrative! Well...kinda...sorta :) Protective Stadium is home to college football's UAB Blazers. It was constructed in 2021 and it's practically a brand new venue. So you may be getting ready to raise a red flag and question that if I'm visiting in the middle of May, it's offseason for UAB's football program and there's nothing going on. But alas! Protective Stadium is also home to the UFL - United Football League's, Birmingham Stallions. And so, were the Stallions in town for a home football game against the Houston Roughnecks this past Saturday, May 18th? YES Was the game starting at 7pm? YES Were fans tailgating outside prior to kickoff? YES Were tickets for the game $10? YES Was Seth going to actually attend this UFL game??? YES! But...here's the thing:) No matter what, I had to do my pregame ritual walk around Protective Stadium, lol, and the clouds in the sky were quite ominous. When I checked the weather app, unfortunately, severe storms were heading towards Birmingham. And...this swayed me to skip the game. Oh wow, now fans may be shouting, "just another excuse, Seth":) Welp, I didn't drive all the way to Birmingham, Alabama to at least not tour the grounds. It's my certified duty and badge of honor to relay details and expectations about the layout and design of Protective Stadium! Here goes... The front entrance is highlighted by a large scoreboard sign saying, "Home of UAB Football" next to a fire breathing dragon. This dragon is UAB's mascot. Picture taking here was wonderful. You're surrounded by trees and grass and overall, this Legacy Plaza area in front of Protective Stadium is a great hangout. Plus, across the street offers an Uptown District of restaurants like Texas de Brazil, Casey's Sports Grill and Uptown Cantina. That leads me to say, Protective Stadium is located in downtown Birmingham and adjacent to the Birmingham-Jefferson Convention Complex. You can take public transportation to and from games if you opt out of driving. Capacity is 47,000 seats but it appeared like it could hold more fans. Cost to build was $200 million. Wrapping around towards the left, you have the Stadium Club section or basically UAB's home team side. I give credit to the grounds crew, they had this plaza and the landscaping around it in pristine shape. The box office is located here but there were suggestions to download the app and purchase tickets online. The back section is where you'll find the Northeast Gate. This area opens up to the entire bowl of the stadium. You can't see down to the field from here, but you can view the stands and scoreboard and I would think you'd feel a sense of energy from the crowd. Finishing up the final side, there's not much to see other than a pedestrian pathway. Across the street offers parking and a Top Golf. There were signs warning fans not to park in the Top Golf lot for UAB or Stallions' games. And then it's back to the main entrance Legacy Plaza side with that awesome Protective Stadium scoreboard sign and fiery dragon hanging from high above. In the end, I was very impressed with the walk around experience. For a new multi-purpose complex that includes hosting MonsterJam Truck Shows, ability to have musical concerts and memorably was the site of The World Games opening and closing ceremonies in 2022, Protective Stadium is a terrific landmark of downtown Birmingham.

We literally parked and walked across the street to the venue. The crowd was elderly but that was to be expected because of who was on the show. Big kudos to the contractors who made sure there was plenty of benches in front of the arena. You almost never see that for these places. We went through security very quickly although there was a thousands of people coming through the gates. As soon as you walk in you can identify where you will be sitting. I had to take an up escalator to my section. I was sitting in Section 129 Row V. Handicap seating. Best seating in the house. No one is sitting in front of you and you are able to stretch your legs. Very comfortable. The ushers were on the job. Concessions was quick and easy and affordable. The only down side is the sound was trash in the beginning but they got it together very soon. It was an amazing show.

Parking for a game is actually easier here than most stadiums because there are numerous lots around campus and you are shuttled over by trolley. Tailgating is at the quad with the west side being free. Just drop off your gear before you park. As for the stadium itself, it's more of an experience. Getting through the gates is a breeze because there are so many of them. Seating is typical college football seating but most throughout the stadium give you a good view of the game. The fan experience is incredible here especially if you know the culture of Alabama. Singing along to Dixieland Delight and Rammer Jammer to yelling Roll Tide Roll for Bama first downs is all part of the culture. It's developed over the years for the greatest team in college football. Roll Tide Roll.

They allow the Vanderbilt Whistler which is very distressing to those who are not neurotypical. To some, it's actually painful. I thought this was insane but being in downtown Birmingham at NOON, parking options are limited. Getting into the event was easy. There was a security checkpoint. However, locating my seat was not easy. The event staff wasn't very helpful. The few I saw. The seating was not clear based on what was printed on the ticket..... I just sat wherever. Pretty much all of the seats were decent at this event. Overall, this was a fun sporting event. I would like to see more workers available to assist guests. Also better signage to help navigate throughout the venue.

Anyone can attend and the exercise is worth the attendance. lol. It will be televised maestro and Luther has classes all over the city. Most are free and those are sponsored. Next year help make the event a record breaker. I support this event

July 4th I came here for the UAB summer band concert on the patio here. Everything was really nice…read moreand the band did an amazing job. They even had a raffle for an opportunity to conduct the band on the finale song. It was great! And NO I didn't win. I remember coming to these concerts when I was younger. I didn't appreciate it then as much as I do now! I highly recommend grabbing your lawn chair and checking this event out next year! And don't worry there is an adjacent building available for access to the restrooms.
