I had such a great time at the Universal Soul Circus at Legion Field. The parking was great and the police presence strategically placed at all parking locations was very appreciated. The staff handling the entrance were very courteous and professional. Now, let's talk about the magic of UniversalSoul Circus! Attending Safe Summer Series has been fun. This particular one took place on 10/8 on the grounds of Legion Field. This was a well operated event. All of the performances were enjoyable. I really enjoyed this event! Food trucks are always a hit! Easy parking but I would have liked to see a better flow of traffic while exiting the event. read more

This was a free event supporting the magic city classic HBCU football game. Vendors were available with good food. Local entertainers were there but Casper was there with the Manhattans. The event was very nice. The event was named BBQ and Blues. read more

Now, I personally have had nothing but good memories at Legion Field. Yes, it's old. Yes, it needs some updating. But, as a person who attends The Magic City Classic (Go Bulldogs!!!), I think Legion Field is valuable to the city of Birmingham. With some TLC, I think Legion Field can continue to be the spot for events that I'm interested in. For example, two days ago, I had the pleasure of attending the UniverSoul Circus. (Listen, if you haven't been to see the UniverSoul Circus, I don't know what you're doing with your life. Lol!) Anyhow, the Big Top was put up at Legion Field and I had a fabulous time! Funk Fest will be at Legion Field in a couple months, which is always a good time. Of course, The Magic City Classic is in October and this event makes the city of Birmingham and many businesses a lot of money every year. This open air stadium is an oldie, but I've always enjoyed myself whenever I attend an event. read more

Legion Stadium because it has legions of fans and a whole legion of history. Legon stadium because biker girls that like to get their legon the back of a bike, sometimes come here and watch games. And Lego Stadium because, well, Lego is fun if you're 4, or drunk. Or both. First-Hand Experience: Info on my personal visit to this stadium - this place no longer hosts Crimson Tide, but it was still a great host stadium for me. There were some guys working in the parking lot, but they didn't seem to mind me coming in, and I appreciated that. It's a little run down. I've only been *inside* once, but I've seen it from the outside on several other occasions, most recently in 2013 when on a road trip around the South. I've been to every cool stadium in the UK & North America, due to my obsession with travel & sport. I've toured America as a musician for 7 or 8 years. In that time, I've seen sports games at, or visited when empty (and usually both), at almost every major stadium in US and Canada. I have pictures of most which I will upload at some point. Also, on future travels, I plan to take new pix, and add more stadia! Watch this space! ***back to regular review*** It's a little run down now, but given that until recently it hosted all of the Crimson Tide and the Tigers big home games, it has to get major kudos. A very historical place for college football in the college football hotbed of the USA. They don't use it anymore but that's probably for the best. It hosted men's football in the 1996 Atlanta Olympics. The Birmingham Bowl is the only thing still played here unfortunately. But yay for history. read more

It really is a shame with as much history as this stadium has, that it has not been maintained. I honestly do think that just enough money was put into the stadium to keep it up to code and to be used and no kind of improvements have been made since the mid 20th century. I have been fortunate (or unfortunate however you look at it) to do various events in various capacities at Legion Field. So I will give a full overview. Parking - A money gouging disaster. This is where the city really hopes to make its money and it shows. Untrained people leading people into unmarked spaces. The years have worn on the parts that are paved and the rest is just a free-for-all. Locker Rooms - Like everything else in the stadium, extremely dated and unimpressive. The training room (there is just one for both LR's) does have an ice maker. But the tables and equipment are from a time the Shug and The Bear were able to check up on their injured players. It is really cool to stand in those locker rooms and think of the players and coaches that stood in those very spaces. Public Seating - The row numbers are still visible. But the seat stickers are hit or miss. They had to condemn and eventually tear down the upper deck. But there are only 1-2 events a year that those might have been used. And that is pushing it. Suites/Press box - I am going to have to wrap this up because it is feeling redundant. Very old and unkept. The furniture was probably replace in the mid 90s when Alabama was wrapping up its last few games there. There is kind of a must smell in the carpet from what I would guess to be leaks over the years. The field - They actually did put in turf (not sure how many years ago) and it is still in pretty good shape. But I have to believe the money was put into that to again maintain usability without having to pay for continued maintenance. And if you ever walk around on that field in the middle of August. The little black rubber pellets will make your feet feel on fire! Overall, it is a really cool historic relic. That if properly maintained, could have that restored rustic feel rather than that poor, rusty feel you get. I would guess that in the next couple of decades, decisions will have to be made to either do a full renovation or full demolition. But only time and the City of Birmingham can tell. read more

The stadium needs some love. It is a good stadium, but doesn't have the maintenance or updates that modern stadiums need. Upper deck was removed. The sound system is aging bad. The scoreboard is good. The bathrooms are ok. Parking for season ticket holders is good - otherwise, hit or miss. Overall - could be much better with a little TLC and some cash put into some upgrades. read more

The Gray lady. An old stadium with a ton of history in it. Almost every famous college coach has either played or coached in this stadium (Bear Bryant, Holtz, Spurrier, Paterno, Dye, etc..). Outside the south entrance, you will find the historic plaque of Bear Bryant and some other interesting statues. The stadium itself has issues, it's old. The bathrooms are the same as when they built the place and I don't think they have been cleaned since. Concrete is falling, metal is rusting, and I think everything has about 32 coats of paint. The area around it is not your typical stadium neighborhood. It's actually in a scary part of town. No restaurants, bars, or grocery stores, just your run of the mile corner store with bars over everything. I recommend coming by for a UAB football game, to see the stadium and some great college football. read more

It's a regular field as far as a spectator goes. Only issue was parking and the lack of cover since unfortunately it was a rainy SWAC championship game for us but we won, so it's all good. read more

This place used to be one of the top stadiums in the country...the home of the football capital of the South but now it is a decaying relic to days gone by. There is so much history here, as anyone who has an inkling of knowledge of the Iron Bowl will attest. But the stadium is well past its prime. We came for the 10th Annual Birmingham Bowl. Parking wasn't really a problem, even though the burned-out apartment building we parked behind was rather sketchy. And I think people were decidedly smaller when Legion Field was built, because there wasn't much shoulder room when seated on the bleachers. Also, the row and seat numbers have long since worn off on many of the bleachers, which made finding your seats a bit of a task. There were people sitting in our reserved seats, and we were content to move around a few times until it was clear that we would end up without ANY seats, much less the ones we paid for, if we didn't speak up a little more. Once we finally got settled in and made friends with our neighbors, we ended up having a great, albeit soggy, time cheering Auburn on to victory. It was my first visit to the stadium since the Birminham Barracudas called Legion Field home for one season. Really, it's about as antiquated as Rickwood Field, but nostalgia excuses a litany of sins. I doubt they'll sink much money into sprucing this old girl up, but it might be something to consider if they plan to continue to host games here. read more
