Flew from Carolina for our first Pent. The facility was easy to navigate, the staff kind and the opportunity to work through the meet with it being on time was exceptional. Seeing old friends and coming together for fun and cheer. The band named "The Clutch Band" did a great job again. The Delphonics is the headliner and taking us back in time; singing when you get right down to it, somebody loves you girl, ready or not here i come, hey Love, what's it all about Alfie, Love won't let me wait, la la means I love you, the love that I give to you, the hit "Didn't I blow your mind this time. The choreography to these songs performed by the Delphonics were spectacular. The only suggestion is for the sound man to adjust the mike for the singers. They were a little low but we enjoyed it anyway. We could hear them but could have had a little more volume Great event. Ready for next year read more

I was at the Crossplex a few months ago to give blood. At that time, I didn't see the full extent of what the facility had to offer. Tonight, I went to support my son at his first indoor track meet. There is plenty of parking and the facility was large enough for social distancing to be enforced. There were quite a few officers there so I personally felt safe. The workers we encountered were helpful. The indoor track area is nice. There was plenty of space for the multiple events. The bleachers area was large enough for us parents/supporters to space out. The Crossplex also limited the amount of tickets sold to keep the capacity down. I'm sure we will be back soon. read more

I've been to some swim events as well as some track and field events at Birmingham Crossplex. This place is state of the art when it comes to pool and track offerings. Pool is Olympic sized and is beyond packed out when they are having meets here. Same goes for the track. It is state of the art and the end literally are on hydraulics and lift up and down based on the current event (raised or lowered track). Parking, that can be a little tricky and you may have to park a fair distance away, especially if you arrive late. Sometimes you get lucky and find a spot where somebody is leaving, but not too often. They do have a snack window that is expensive for what it is, but there aren't many options when it comes to food in the immediate area. There are a few spots, but to be honest, I'd pass on them. Staff are always friendly and helpful, especially if you need directions to events, etc. If you know somebody competing in swimming or track and field, this is a good venue to go out and give them some support. read more

We recently attended a cheer competition here. Wonderful facility but the bass in the music was so intense and the loudness was so ear piercing and profound. I have been to dozens of concerts and car stereo audio competitions and nothing has come close to this. So disturbing! This should not be permissible. read more

I've been here for several events: a concert, graduations, Back to School Institute, etc. the facility is nice. They have finally fixed the air issue because it used to be a sweatbox. I wish the city would've thought to add additional parking instead of that grassy area though. read more

Great facility! Love to race here!! Every high school indoor track meet is held here and athletes gather from the five surrounding states to run. It's an amazing facility for our area - Birmingham than should be proud to have such a world-class venue. The staff is great - I love to volunteer at the meets because everyone is so easy to work with. The fact that so many NCAA events are held here is an indication of the quality and thought put into the design. There's an arena and a pool here - I am always at the track, but understand the rest is amazing! It's a good thing I love it here - during indoor track season, I spend most weekends here. read more

This place is one of the most used places by Birmingham City Schools and other surrounding schools for different events. They have swim meets, track & field events, banquets, church events, graduations, Basketball area Tournaments,even weddings, and receptions, etc. Its amazing to see how this place is transformed into a real track and field event. Decided to visit the Starbucks because my niece wanted to try the Witch's Brew Frap for Halloween. I decided to go in as it didn't appear to be too busy. There store was very clean and quiet; there were a few patrons seated reading books. The staff was friendly and greeted us upon entry. Would definitely visit again when I the area. read more

Great facility but in the worst part of town. Can't imagine why that decision was made. Nonetheless, went there for a cheer competition and was fine except the sound mix was horrible. You would think no one took the time to go into the stands to check the sound quality because it was awful. If they did check it then they need hearing aids. The bass was so loud that it was all you could hear, painfully poor quality. If it was a concert or music venue I would have walked out. It made the experience unpleasant to say the least. Hard to understand how any event manager could not notice this. read more

This is a nice facility but swimmers are discriminated against by Crossplex staff. Rules are applied to them that other athletes and their spectators are not required to follow, such as limiting the number of family members who can attend swim meets to only one family member and masks and social distancing is required for swimmers and their spectators while no such rules exist for track, volleyball, or basketball. Also, the swim teams that practice there 5-6 days per week are forced to park in the dark back parking lot during track and volleyball events, and sometimes the back doors aren't unlocked, so swimmers much walk all the way around the building. Also, parents of swimmers who are at practice must stay in their cars and are not allowed to sit inside, while parents of volleyball and track athletes are allowed inside. read more

They have an event for 13 hours and want kids not to eat anything. One staff that work there said she doesn't care if a kid has diabetes and doesn't eat. Was place ever to come to an event. read more

The security staff was extremely rude. When we were leaving an event, they were yelling "GET OUT!" I have never heard anyone at a business speak to people this way. I get that they want to close up and go home, but the patrons should never be spoken to in that way. "Please exit the building" would've sufficed. It was ridiculous because it was very cold outside. Several people were waiting for their rides to come pick them up, so they had to stand out in 45 degree weather because they were yelled at to "get out." read more

World class athletic facility with indoor track, volleyball and swimming. Multiple NCAA championships have been held here. Despite being open for many years now, still is a surprise to many people how nice this facility is. New development going on directly around the Crossplex so should just continue getting better. read more

This is a pretty good place to have track meets, but they sorta charge too much to get in. And I wouldn't have a problem with them charging so much if the money actually went to something productive. The money could be used to help improve Birmingham, but that's not what they use it for. You have to pay to park and pay to get in. Plus, the food is really expensive and it's mediocre at best. Everything blocked off forcing you to be guided to park then once in forcing you to leave child to find missing coach! Most "workers" seemed as though this was first and only job they've ever had! Makes you feel that you are entering a top secret venue as parents are herded away thru a different entrance... then once at bleachers all spots to sit are shrouded w towels so as to "save" seats for swimmers who might sit for 5 minutes! People overall are rude here and the security guards walk around acting as if the parents are not to be trusted! I do not like this expensive venue with pervasive rudeness throughout looking for tickets before allowing you in...charging high prices for even a candy bar! This is a brand new venue. Designed to host indoor track & field events and swim meets. My first impression: NOT in a very desirable part of town. I am not a fan of going places where I do not feel safe in the neighborhood. But, there did seem to be a fairly good police presence in the area. Well designed parking areas. A good bit of parking, laid out in a way to make it pretty close to an entrance. We were there on a day when there was both a swim meet and a track meet. There is not enough parking to accomodate dual events. Well designed competition areas. The lay-out of the pool area will be very good for competitions. The track arena is totally state of the art. In the swimming area, there could be a better venting system. The air was thick with cholorine smell, the humidity rendered the walking areas slippery. It seems to me that a new facility would have a modern system to address these things. Concessions were lacking. Staff did not care about customer service, not well organized. Over-all Crossplex can become a significant venue but thet will need to get things right for it to happen. read more

I read previous reviews concerning the employees being rude or not helpful. My experience, ALL employees were friendly, helpful, and polite, including parking personnel! I traveled from south of B'ham so as far as location, I was not concerned for my safety. The homes around the Crossplex appeared to be lower middle class but homes and yards were kept up, didn't see any "gangs" gathered in the streets. Just sayin. read more

I don't know how many times "Russ M" has been to the Crossplex, but I have been there several times as a track and field official, and have been there when there were dual meets/events going on. There was sufficient parking on these dates. And while it is true that the parking is limited, how much different (other than magnitude) is that from parking for an Alabama football game? I have found the venue very appealing and functional. Not only will it host T&F and swimming, it will also host volleyball and can be converted to other uses (wrestling, etc.) It is definitely state of art, and while it may vary by day or time, I found no issues with the pool when I toured the Crossplex or popped in on the swim meet. As to the neighborhood/safety issue, unfortunately Russ tends to be like a lot of people not from the area in question. He hears the name "Birmingham", and everything he sees is tainted by that. I happen to live in the Birmingham area (Hoover, 25 minutes away), and while there are bad elements in Birmingham (and in the 5-Points West section of the community of Fairfield/Fairpark, where the Crossplex is), it is unfair to dump them all into one. This is a safe area, even to walk around in, IF you take the same safety precautions you would take in Hoover, Huntsville, Mountain Brook, and Tuscaloosa. The bottom line as I see it is that, while there are things that need to be fleshed out going forward, the Crossplex is a home run for Birmingham, Alabama, and the Southeast. I look forward to being in the stands and on the floor for many years to come. read more

The facility is great, but the location is in a bad part of town. The worse part is the concessions. You are not allowed to bring food or drink into the facility. The concession stand is very slow, the food is cooked when ordered, and there was only one cashier. When you got your food, it was not good. The concessions need to be completely revamped. It is enough to keep you away from the facility. read more
