I have been here a couple of times for concerts and events. I recently went to an event, and the…read morestaff was very helpful. It has gotten a bit better since the last time I was here. I was able to luck up on parking for this event, as someone was leaving. However, parking is usually a challenge, and you sometimes have to walk a good bit. The venue itself is nice, and they are usually very organized and helpful. Luckily, I was able to get on the first level and had a good view of the stage. The bar service was also great when I went, and the wait wasn't long, despite the crowd. The parking is truly the only issue, because it is in such a busy area. However, the event is nice and flexible depending on the event. So I really enjoy coming to events at Iron City.

Lowering my review after this year's festival. There was bad weather both days, and Sloss only…read morecared about their liability. On Saturday, everyone was forced out of the location by their staff, and onto train tracks which had trains on them, leaving several people to almost get hit. The staff were also telling people the whole day was closed, which was not the case. They just wanted people to leave. We missed out on about 3hrs of shows on Saturday due to all of this. On Sunday, bad weather struck again. We were not forced off the property this time, Sloss having learned its lesson. However, we were all gathered underneath the overpass and were there 4-5 hrs. When someone plugged in a phone and played music to help pass the time and improve the mood, it was removed after 3 songs, upsetting everyone. Eventually the festival resumed, but only 3 acts remained to play that night. Overall, a pretty disappointing experience, and Sloss has yet to really comment or offer any kind of refund for literally missing over half the shows promised. I know they have no control over weather, but some kind of response and restitution would be appreciated. I hope next year is better, or Sloss may not recover.

This is THE room for music fans. It's a quiet venue, a rock venue, and everything in between…read more Above all, it's intimate. You aren't just a spectator, you're part of the show. Here's why I say all of those glowing things: This room is tall, but small in square feet. There are bookshelves that align the walls. They are covered in books that face backwards, so the pages soak in the sound. It's a noise canceling solution that was just too dang obvious for anyone else to figure out. At times, the ticket prices might be steep, but it's worth it. It means you get to see one of your favorite acts in an intimate venue with people that care. Think about it... you won't have to deal with the drunk dude at the bar talking about who knows what, while your trying to enjoy a show. so good.

Yes we have plenty of places to see rock shows and indie shows but a true listening room where music is front and center and not the whole "hey look at me I'm at this show and you're not" thing we just don't have. I'm rambling because it's hard to convey the excitement I have for this place. It's the type of room that you can go to and the artist doesn't even have to be mic'd up for it to sound amazing. From what I understand a bar area is coming and there are more renovations to be done in the space but really the aesthetics don't matter when it comes to this place. It simply is a place to go and listen to music without distraction. Get there as soon as you can.

There are also vendors there offering services, products, and food. I was glad to see they had mainly outdoor stages vs. indoor stages this year. I think that was a good way to address the still serious issue of Covid-19. There weren't as many people here as the last time I attended, but it drew a nice crowd. They had signs up with directive related to staying safe. I enjoyed many of the artists I saw. I was surprised to see kids out here because many of the artist use adult language in their music. I do think they should probably enforce an age limit. Anyways, it was a good experience as usual. I'd attend the festival in the future.

We got the VIP tickets, which provides a shared-private setting (great protection if it rains) with complimentary drinks and food. The food and drinks make the cost of the special ticket an excellent value. The crowd was so diverse, with all ages, races, cultures, preferences, etc. The music acts we saw were a variety of Indie, Alternative, Rap, Rock and practically any genre you can imagine. Parking was plentiful, streets were blocked off for safety, and there are food trucks offering great options. I would recommend this event, and will be attending next year.

It was served buffet style and the staff made sure that we never ran out of food. The best part of the night for me was the bartender. Every drink he made for us was spot on. We had the option to leave early since buses were coming back and forth to the hotel, but it was such a great time that we ended up staying until the event was over.

FREE LOCAL FUN…read more Local is an evening festival that features local artists, musicians, etc. all in one area. This is located right in the plaza of Alys Stephens Center. There are dozens of tents offering items for sale from homemade flavored popcorn, flavored sweet, t shirts, pillows, jewelry and various items for your home. There were food trucks offering BBQ, wood fire pizza, big spoon creamery, and dreamland cupcakes. There were also free stations for caricatures and face painting for kids. From 5-9 there were live performances from different musicians in the area. Great event for kids and adults. Bring your blanket, lay in the grass and enjoy an evening with local friends and talent

There was also a good mix of food and art vendors. It was kind of like a smaller (and less crowded) pepper place market. A large stage housed the musical acts. They had a different one for each hour that seemed to span several different genres. Chairs and tables were set up near the stage, but they filled up fast. There was also a bar next to the stage that offered drinks for purchase. Right off of the stage seating area was the VIP area. This area was reserved for certain members of the center along with their junior board. So, unless you were a lucky yelper (me!), you couldn't just a random person and get tickets. In this area, there was a bar with complimentary wine, beer, and water along with catering from Jim N Nicks. They also offered free goodies like sunglasses and fans. If these tickets are ever available for purchase, I would say they are worth a reasonable price. We really had a great time at this event. The weather was perfect, with a steady breeze, and it wasn't too crowded. The only thing I may change for next year is to bring a blanket to sit on in the grass while watching the musical acts.
