This place is an awesome diner/cafe. The staff are all very personable and make great efforts to make you feel at home, like remembering your name and getting to know you a little bit. The food has never disappointed. It is always perfect, exactly how I've ordered it. My eggs are always perfectly over medium when I order breakfast, and lunch options have all been perfect for what they are. Pastrami is super good. This place truly made me value and acknowledge just how lucky I am to live in a city like Los Angeles where we are so spoiled. I know the food at Ricks's is admired in this region of California. And it certainly wasn't bad, but it was nowhere near as good as the options we have in LA. We tried the Pastrami sandwich and fries as well as the Grilled chicken sandwich with onion rings. They both seemed fresh but also felt like they were missing. The sandwiches both came out somewhat cold, but the fries and onion rings were piping hot. I would assume they made the sandwiches first and deep fried the sides after, hence the dramatic temperature difference. The grilled chicken was bland (which I prefer to over-seasoned so that was fine). The pastrami seemed off to me, but the boyfriend seemed to enjoy it so that was good. If you're in the area, it might be one of the better options. We really wanted to try Grizzly Cafe, but it was a bit further away from us so we just went with Rick's in the end. read more

I think this was our fourth time visiting Rick's Roadside Cafe. Tonight we stopped in with our son and grandkids. Our grandkids have been there with us twice before. The food is great, servers are friendly and can help make the right menu choice. I love the ambiance of a place where locals and other regulars come and have their own coffee mugs hanging on a peg ready to go when the visit. Great food here, so glad we found Rick's! We came for lunch and liked it so much we came back for breakfast the next day. There were four of us and we wanted to try some of everything. We had one of the Turkey sandwiches, can't remember which one but it was really good. Lots of meat, great flavor, toast was crispy. Great sandwich. The breakfast burrito was aight. Needed some sauce bad, but still had good flavors going on. The skillets are incredible. The angus beef patty in one of them was so delicious. I could have eaten just that. Enormous too. Their gravy is killer. Two of our party got biscuits and gravy at both visits. And one of them is bonafide Southern. That's a testimony! To top it off, the coffee is perfect and fresh. They even have flavored creamer! We will be visiting again as the service is great. I don't think they meet strangers here. We felt welcomed and comfortable like we'd been coming here forever. This is the type of dinner you'd see on the Food Network. This unassuming place has a homey feeling from the second you walk in. The service is attentive and fast but also personable. The food itself is terrific. We had the Frisco and the chicken club. The Frisco is delicious, and the chicken club is rich and delicious without being too much. AREA: Okay so I'm not going to lie I was a little nervous coming here because down the street there was a house with a confederate flag. SERVICE: When I walked in I can't rave about the customer service more! There was a woman named SHAUNA that was sooooooo nice. I came in 30 mins before closing and you know there are employees that hate that but she embraced me with such kindness I had to YELP about it! This is a quaint cafe. On the wall behind the counter is an assortment of coffee cups that local customers use on their visits. Very personal! It's also the place to get your breakfast! My husband and I shared a Hungry man's breakfast. It came with 4 eggs, 2 bacon, 2 sausage, 1 slice of ham, potatoes, and a side of biscuits and gravy! (I'm wishing that I would have taken a picture.) Gone Country! Way out here in the toolies is a beautiful little restaurant in the high desert off Highway 138 in Phelan. We ventured here from Covina California based on Yelp reviews. It certainly wasn't a letdown. I ordered the rib eye steak and eggs with crispy country fried potatoes. Biscuits and gravy out of this world. Everything came out perfect. The clientele is pretty much locals and some truckers that come through here. We were happy at the excellent cheerful service that they provided. The people who work here make sure to treat you like a frequent customer whether it's your first time in or 100th. I am so glad that when I go there I'm greeted with warm welcomes from all the staff. The food is definitely a reason on its own to go back often. Comfort food and some healthy options. The environment is usually either upbeat or a bit more calm. When you visit, be sure to be in the present moment, no one needs to feel rushed to eat their food. We always love coming here. All workers interact with you in one way or another. Whether greeting you when you walk in, serving you coffee (never an empty mug) taking your order, bringing your food, refilling your glass, asking if everything is good, taking your empty plate away or bringing your bill, they are all interested in making sure you are taken care of. If in this area, try the Mountain Top Cafe right up the street. For basically the same money you get bigger portions and a higher quality taste. The second we walked in, we were warmly welcomed! Our Waitress Jessica is awesome! Very sweet and personable and made us feel very warm. She actually sat down with us to take our order and I for one find that VERY COOL! This coming from a woman, she's also very beautiful. Very pretty eyes and great smile.
