Rick's advertises free shipping on orders over $100. My salesperson wanted to honor free shipping but a co-worker stepped in and insisted charging shipping because of the increase cost of shipping (this co- worker wasn't even a manager!). My bill was over $200 plus shipping. Several months ago, I had items shipped and the package sat on their loading dock for over two weeks! I highly recommend customers to stay away from Rick's on Pottstown Pike in West Chester! Some of their workers are unkind, unprofessional, and treat their customers unfairly. read more

If I could split things up, I'd give this place five stars for the stock, two for the service. That would work out to an average of three and a half, so I guess I'll give them the benefit of the doubt and round up. Maybe it was an off day for them. Granted, it's been a while since I've been in a saddle shop but this one seems to have pretty much everything, with a better selection than the places I used to frequent before my hiatus from the equestrian world. I found everything I needed to replace the gear that got lost in the shuffle of my many moves, plus a lot of stuff that I was tempted by but didn't actually need (yet). But when I get my own horse instead of exercising someone else's, you bet your boots I'm buying it a rhinestone bridle. Unfortunately, I got zero offers of assistance from the sales staff while I shopped, and one girl looked at me like I had two heads when I asked (with an armload of breeches) where the fitting rooms were. I heard someone at the register remarking about how unusually busy they were today, so maybe that was part of the problem. But honestly, it didn't seem all that busy to me. There were maybe a dozen other customers when I was there. Maybe it was my tattoos--I certainly got some looks when I walked in. But you know what? I've been riding since before some of those people were born. And when it's 98 degrees outside, I'm not going to cover up to keep some kid gearing up for pony camp from staring at me. They've got a website you can order from too, but I made the trek out from the city so I could try stuff on. If you know your sizes and aren't in the area, ordering online might be a good option--especially if you have visible ink. At least the horses don't care about that sort of thing. read more

We've been dealing with ricks off and on for about a year and have made several purchases. 1st off Rick's is much more expensive then other saddleries in the area (Dover for example). 2nd the customer service is horrible. My wife recently went in and everyone stayed behind the counter, was rude and not helpful. I know when I go I normally have the same problem with the same person consistently for her poor customer service. She knows who she is so I won't call her our directly on this forum. however if the management of Ricks reads this you guys need to make some serious changes to your business if you want to keep customers. read more

Ricks put a puncture in my daughters new saddle, while installing a name plate. The person who did it, denied it. The owners daughter suggested that we dropped the saddle and did the damage, since her employee says she did not do it. This business does not accept responsibility for their mistakes, instead blames the customer, who supports local business. Do not trust them. They are not honest. I see a similar complaint on their fb page. I wish I read that review first. read more

Ricks has amazing sales! They have a great selection (for Jumpers) they have a huge selection of used saddles . Great grooming and health supply selection. While others complain about prices, they do have PRICE MATCH. I will say that sometimes the customer service is a little sub-par. Keep an eye out for sales and they even have many items in the discount room. Returns are easy with the original reciept and they will be there to help you with your questions. read more

First, let me say that although I haven't used Rick's in the last few years, it was a place I always used to go for dressage, jumping and foxhunting equipment. I have sold and purchased one saddle from the store. It has a great selection but with that said I have to say that I was disappointed with our most recent visit and I hope they ramp up their customer service. Rating--averaged to 2.5/3 stars-----Employee Bree and saddle selection gets 5 stars but remaining staff gets 2 stars. The good: Used saddle staff member Bree is very knowledgeable and very helpful. It is a great place to purchase used saddles and people wait to work with her. 5 stars for Bree. She turned what could have been a challenging shopping experience for several reasons into a great experience. Five stars for the used/new saddle stock. The not so good: customer service of other employees. During our trip if you didn't deal with Bree you were not helped despite having 3 staff there at the cash register. They were not helpful and only answered questions if I went to the cash register, did not go out of their way to help us at all. The person I was with is not a classical/petite rider and they ignored her. Note that with used saddle purchases they will only make one call to the buyer and come back with a $ amount, you are not allowed to counter, this should have been explained to us at the beginning. The person who called the saddle owner was not Bree and was not very helpful. read more

Great people that work there! Compassionate, helpful and knowledgeable. The bad reviews are bogus. I've been there multiple times and I've never been given the brush-off. Yes, they do get busy at times but if they are non-responsive, it's because they are all over the place helping others. The are more expensive but we live in Chester County -it's just the way it is. read more

A great place to buy used saddles from afar (if you know what you want). The modern (English) rider often has to shop for saddles online and finding a used saddle that fits man and beast takes a great deal of time, money and effort. There are a few large tackshops (mostly in the Northeast and Mid-Atlantic) that are well-known reservoirs of used saddles. Rick's Heritage Saddlery ought to be one of the places you on-line saddle shoppers checks. I found their prices to be fair and their saddles (while represented by just one picture) to be represented accurately. I bought a "used" (but brand new-looking) Exselle close contact saddle from Rick's last year and, even as a long-time saddle shopper, I was impressed enough to write this review. First, shipping is reasonable enough that you can afford to have a candidate saddle or two shipped. I was charged only for the shipping (though funds for the saddle's price were put in reserve on my credit card.) Shipping and communication were prompt. I also received great service from Katie in the Pennsylvania store when it came to negotiating a bit on price, questions about other saddles and finding some billet guards to replace the missing ones on this saddle. Katie went out of her way to make sure I had the saddle I wanted quickly, thus helping me wrap up the long process of buying a saddle from afar. Last, their on-line selection is huge and their website easy to use. In my opinion, buying saddles online always works best if you have some idea what saddle will fit your horse. But if you must go on a saddle hunt--- and spend money trying on likely saddles, you might as well go to a store with a large selection, good prices and inviting shipping rates. read more

We recently went to the store in PA after many, many, many other stores including two other Rick's in NJ. We were on the hunt for a saddle!! The saddle girl at Rick's in PA is the best, very knowledgeable of her inventory, the product, the fit, etc. We had a complicated fit (very long legged rider), and went in with an idea of what to try. I randomly found their company online and read positive feedback about them so I decided to purchase a saddle online. I read their policy for the saddle tryout and did as it said. First, I found the saddle I wanted. Second, I called the store. A gentleman answered and asked him if he could let me know if the saddle I was interested in was available. His response was "If it's on the website, it's there." I placed the order within a few hours and got the confirmation email. Later on in the day I realized that my card had not been charged and the saddle was still available online, so the following day I called and was told that the lady that takes care of online orders was currently at a meeting and unavailable but that she would call me back. She never did. So I called the store and spoke with another young lady asking her what was going on. She stated that the saddle was in fact, not available, and I would be informed if it came back in. I asked to have the order canceled. The following day, I received an email telling me the same thing and confirmation of the cancellation by the lady who is supposed to take care of the online orders. I told her to cancel it. I thought perhaps I had just called at a bad time or that it was a glitch, so I decided to give the store another chance. I asked the lady if there was another saddle available. No answer. So I called the store again. Another young gentleman answered the phone and I explained the situation and he immediately went to check if the saddle was in stock. He told me he had the saddle right in front of me and was bringing it "downstairs" so it could be mailed out to me. I immediately made the payment. I got the confirmation email and was all happy about it. I was even happier when I got an email letting me know the saddle would be delivered the following day. Of course - another glitch. They forgot to put my apartment number on the address so now I have to wait through the weekend (with no option of being able to pick it up myself at the UPS store - I called). To top it all off, the online lady sent me another email letting me know that the second saddle I had inquired about was out too. I just responded that I was the one who had taken the saddle out. This lady is so disorganized, all I got from her were apologies and late responses. The inventory may be good, but do I really want to go through all the hassle again? No. Time to purchase the saddle: one week of phone calls and emails. I hope the saddle is what it is because I don't want to even think what happens in case of a return.... read more

Customer service is horrible. If you walk into the store, and you are the only customer, not one sales person will offer to help you. They all seem to hang out at the cash register talking with each other. This has happened multiple times. On one occasion, I walked into their riding boot room, no one was in there and no one came in to help. I left without buying anything. I went in today to look for something, couldn't locate it and all of the help were standing around at the register talking. Again, I left without buying anything. read more

Went in to purchase a helmet. A sales person told me that the person who knew about helmets was not available. So I went upstairs and tried helmets by myself. Good thing I know what I'm doing and didn't need help with a $300 purchase. I've never had much luck with customer service here. read more

Well I just loved the store. lots of wonderful clothes,tack, and foot wear. However,despite their nice website no one contacted me after I asked a question. When I called the store they referred me to the website. But the store did have wonderful assortment of items and have a really good sale going one.
