I originally purchased carpet at home depot, but when things were backordered for the third time I stopped in to Rick's just to see what they had. Not only did they match the home depot price, but they were able to install it within four days - prior to the movers coming - which made my life so much easier. I reviewed Rick's job last year immediately after it was complete and after 1 year I'm even less pleased with the job. When they installed the hardwood flooring they didn't check the integrity of the 30 year old sub-floor. Our floor squeaks like this in several places around the upstairs. This particular place in the floor you can actually feel it depress when you step on it. This was like putting a new filling over a decayed tooth. Not what you rant. read more

We had carpet installed three years ago before we moved into our house. Why the installation took 14 hours for one staircase and three bedrooms with no furniture to move, I'll never know. The carpet was installed a week before we moved in. The furniture was put in and before the end of year 2, the carpet started to bunch up in places. This did not occur because we moved furniture around. The furniture is where it was placed on moving day. After doing some online research, I learned that carpet only creases if furniture is moved a lot (no), if the carpet is damaged by something like a flood or high humidity in the house (no) or simply due to poor installation. The only way to make this right is by having it tightened. This is the 4th time I've had carpet installed and the second job by Rick's. I wish I could rip it all out and have someone else redo it. I see the crease in the master bedroom getting bigger over time. Not a good job and even more disappointing that it seems to be happening in other places. read more

What is more surprising: the fact that Rick's is still in business, or the numerous five-star reviews on this page? I had a similar experience to the (also numerous) one-star reviews here: "estimates" that were jacked up more than double, incompetent subcontractors installing wood floors, job taking four times longer than estimated, flat out lies and abusive responses to legitimate complaints, and immediate threats to sue when I suggested I might not pay the full bill for the terrible service and product that I received. This was years ago, but every time I sweep the bulging and unevenly stained floor I remember just what an awful business this is. Had I not been a single parent with a demanding job, I would have taken the time to retain my own counsel. I'm really suspicious of those five star reviews. read more

This would be my second time using Rick's Flooring and Home Improvement. The first time was back in 2015 without any issues. It's now 2023, and I'm incredibly frustrated with the lack of responsiveness and their lack of attention to detail. I needed two large areas (living room and bedroom) carpeted with binding on all sides; I spent a reasonable amount of time on the phone with Abe explaining what I wanted and that I had done this before, back in 2015, with his company. I requested the living room be done first, and once that was done, I would have them do the bedroom. Abe came out, took measurements of both spaces then left to work on the quotes. About two weeks later, they came to put down the carpet in the living room... well, guess what? They rolled out a large piece of carpet and asked me what side I wanted the cut side on; huh, what? This carpet was supposed to be measured, cut, bound, and put down (cut to fit with binding on all sides), but that's not what happened. Instead, they brought out one giant piece of carpet, which they would cut in front of me, then leave. No, no, no, that is not what we agreed on, so I got Abe on the phone, and it was like I had to re-explain what I had already spoken to him about. The installer (Henry) was great, very professional, and knew exactly what I wanted to be done. Still, unfortunately, he doesn't work in sales, maybe he should, he's a very polite and experienced employee. So Henry cuts the carpet in place, then rolls it back up and returns it to get bound. Another week or two goes by, and their back to lay down the carpet. A week after that, Henry is back because there is a tear at an edge between the binding and the rest of the carpet; Henry fixed it and was on his way. Now the last thing I have left to do is the bedroom which, if you remember from earlier, Abe already took measurements but based on how things were going, I decided to take my own. I called him on the phone and gave him the measurements, so all he had to do was get the carpet cut to those specifications, have it bound on all sides, and deliver it. I would unroll the carpet once delivered, and when I did, it was 8" shorter on one side and 2" longer on the other. I know what you're thinking, and unfortunately, the room is not a perfect square, and if I rotated the carpet, it would only worsen. As frustrated as I am, I called back and left a message for Abe to call me... it's been over a week now, and guess who hasn't called me back? Abe! I know these two pieces of carpet don't cost as much as tiling or wood flooring, but there is a saying: "If you can't do the little things right, you will never do the big things right." William H. Had them re-do a bathroom and finish off a laundry room for us. It cost more and took longer than expected. Unfortunately that was only the start of the issues. Over the last three years we've had to re-do almost everything we paid them to do. Starting on what will hopefully be the last major fix--tearing out the stand up shower they didn't waterproof when they installed. read more

Rick's Flooring and Home Improvement has been of service to me over the years for many projects, i.e., hardwood flooring, carpeting, and home improvements. Most recently, we wanted an 8x10 foot wall built with porcelain tiles, with a cutout for our 60" TV, and a cutout for our 60" electric fireplace. Rick's was able to do exactly that....we just showed a photo of what the finished product should look like. It was perfect!! The workers were professional, on time, cleaned up every day, and very organized. Often a project manager came to the site just to ensure all was going well, and on schedule. Never any issues. We just used their service yesterday to put new carpet in our basement room. A guy works at the office was really helpful and kind, so we decided to use their service. Depends on their availability but they usually come within 1-3 days. For us, we only waited for a couple days. A guy who has 25 years experienced professional came to our home and install carpet within 2 hours!!! Basement looks very nice,and we are glad to decide to use them. We had new carpet installed in our condo back in January. We were very pleased with their selection and initial service by our salesman. Unfortunately, things dropped off after he made the sale. He promised us an install date two weeks in the future before the carpet was in their warehouse which isn't their protocol. They usually will not schedule install until they have the carpet in house. They ended up sitting on the order since they didn't want to stock it for a week, so the install was never confirmed because they didn't have the carpet. My wife had already taken a day off work to be home for the install which was in jeopardy until the actual day of the install. Rick's ended up making it right by having their installer drive to the distribution center in Maryland to pick it up. The installer did an excellent job and we were very happy to have new carpet. We were pleased by the follow up of their customer service team survey too. We also learned that our salesman is no longer employed there, so it appears they deal with their problems promptly. read more

Just completed a major basement remodeling project with Rick's. Rick's has a renovation side as well as flooring retailer/installer. Project came out fantastic. Their commitment to my satisfaction is what really stood out. Everyone from Jeff on down was great to deal with and we are very happy with the outcome of the workmanship, flooring, and overall cost. He "made up" for the bad service, but I would still be hesitant to go back because of the four month wait and the initial service I received. Very dissatisfied with Floor and service we received. Floor was installed by a man and his son, who appeared to be 11 or 12. He cursed loudly and constantly, and I had to finally ask him to leave. He left while screaming hateful things at me, the customer. My children and elderly father were quite upset. We By that time he had damaged our concrete slab, and dropped items on the floor which left permanent cuts through the new flooring. I asked him to leave remnants for patching purposes, but he took them. When I called Ricks's management I was told they had been disposed of already. No effort made to supply from their stock. I was treated rudely by the owners daughter, until I finally begged for someone to finish the work. A gentleman did come, did some fixing, but scarring was not repaired. Baseboards had been leaned back against the wall and were not attached. Expensive metal strip was installed with a prominent dent as though it had been bent in two. I have felt we were cheated of a nice floor, courtesy, and proper follow up. I would certainly warn anyone to avoid this business. read more

This company laid my tiger wood engineered floor throughout my home and it started buckling pretty quickly. It took them 3 times to send a crew out to fix the flooring; and, a few years out, my floor is still buckled in a few areas. I found the crews sent to be inexperienced and disorganized. One time a crew didn't show at all and I did not receive any call. I had to call Rick's to let them know. I used them before some years back to lay a floor twice. Those times, the crew they sent showed up on time and did a good job. This last time, their sales and operations staff completely changed and I think they were not experienced enough. read more

I recently purchased carpet for my condo, and was advised by my contractor to go to Rick's Carpet and Flooring. It was a bit out of the way for me, but I went and have had no regrets. Chris, my salesman, was very helpful, very nice, very professional--and spent time with us going over the plusses and minuses of each carpet I considered.. He had enormous patience.,and offered me an exceptional carpet at a very fair price. At the time of installation, it turned out that there was a shortage of carpet. They installed carpet in my house 1 1/2 years ago. Then my neighbor's basement flooded and it flooded into my basement and all the wet carpet had to be removed and replaced. They ordered identical carpet that arrived in less than 2 weeks and scheduled emergency installation for me on a Saturday afternoon. I couldn't be more pleased with the expert installation, clean up, customer service from Abe and Jessica and I would definitely use them again and refer them to friends. The absolute worst customer experience I've ever had. Spent $3,800 for laminate flooring in my living and dining rooms. I was told before signing the contract that they could get it done in a single weekend. Well...a single weekend turned into a full month!! Additionally, the job went through 3 different project managers (not sure if they were each fired or what...?) and they used the wrong glue for the steps and threshold pieces. They had to return 3 times to fix this issue and each time the glue still did not hold. Finally they came back a 4th time and just threw on as much glue as they fit. Now I have a thick layer of glue visibly lining a big gap between the floorboard and threshold. Not once was I contacted by anyone at the store to attempt to rectify any of the multitude of issues I experienced nor apologize for the lies, rude treatment and extreme unprofessionalism exhibited. read more

Terrible service. Terrible management. Installed a floor in our kitchen. Sections of the floor not connected properly. Floor sections coming up. When contacted they sent some one out to look at it. That person promised to get back to me. Never got back to me. When contacted them again they promised to send some one out and I would be contacted. Never contacted. I would never use them again. Neighbors have asked me who did the floor. I told them and they used other companies for their flooring. I live in a neighborhood that is getting upgraded and will always steer neighbors away fem Rick's. There are many companies who can put in a floor. Check them out first. Do NOT buy your carpeting at Rick's Carpet and flooring! Rick's big come on "18 Months No Payments, No Interest" is a complete lie! We bought several thousand dollars of carpeting and within a few weeks we were billed for a substantial "minimum" payment and the payment period had been reduced to 12 months! What a fraud!! Rick's also "negotiates" price. You feel like you are buying a used car rather a new home improvement. There are plenty of places to buy rugs and carpets. GO SOMEWHERE ELSE!!! Worked with us to get new carpet for our entire townhouse on very short notice, excellent price, get followup by the sales agent (and manager) throughout the process. Roughly 925 sqft of carpet was installed in one day and looks great. Installer was very friendly and professional, and even added in some suggestions on other projects we were working on at the property. Only hangup was a minor one. The installation was done by just one guy rather then a team, which meant it took a long time (maybe 14 hours). But the end product was great, totally worth every cent. read more

They say they have life time guarantee service, but when you actually need some repairs it doesn't come as they say. Before even taking a look at my problems, a guy from the rick's flooring started picking up mistakes that I might have placed on my floor and just visited later to prove it. When I visited the store to consult, store worker's first word was " I already know what your problem on the floor is". My problems were planks having gaps, some hardwood area making terrible cracking sounds every step you make on. And some of planks are not evenly put together so that it rises up on the shared edge. Missing some wood buttons around staircases. I knew that wood shrink and expand by season and moisture but my floor had both problems of gapping and edge rising for one dry season. I was willing to listen and discuss the season change but I didn't have a chance because I got blamed for my moisture level immediately. But for the problem of planks rising, I should have not had for my wrong moisture level because it is supposedly for rainy season according to his moisture theory. Then the guy changes problem pointing from dryness of season to my house structure problem that they didn't address when they install. Overall, they recommended to repair by charging me extra money and time for my 10 months old hardwood floor because it is all weather and house structure problem (that they pointing out even before taking a look at my floor) while they supposedly give me "lifetime guarantee" There was no way that they could possibly be wrong on their installation, and you have to expertly prove their installation flaws in order to process their 'lifetime guarantee service'. Life time guarantee apparently wasn't my case. My 10 months old floor is with cracking sound, rising planks, missing wood buttons and gapping problems, and I regret that I'm not an expert for my floor. read more

We had in our condo bamboo floors and carpet installed. The initial service was great, as was the installation of the wood floors. Amazing crew! There was a slight problem with getting the products (wood) in time. It was resolved after a few phone calls. The gentleman, who installed the carpet wanted to do it by himself even though we pointed out that he had to move heavy and bulky furniture. When he dropped a dresser, he damaged it and its contents slightly. I would recommend for this subcontractor to work in a team as well. Overall we are pleased with the service and installation. It has been 6 months since the installation and the floors look great! read more

Very simply, we found Rick's to be very unreliable and over-priced. They were supposed to place the wood in our condo 6-7 days before hand to let it "acclimate" but when we returned from abroad, we found out they only did so 2 days beforehand. When I asked about this later, I was told that whoever gave us that info about 6-7 days was wrong and natural wood only needs 48 hours to adjust to space/ temp/sunlight etc. However, within the first 3 months, we noticed that gaps between the panels had become noticibly larger and dirt was getting trapped in between. Perhaps worst of all was the quality of the wood. We ended up paying approx $9k for our condo (1100 sq feet) in DC and were extremely disappointed with how fragile the wood floors are. Everything (inc falling quarters, no joke) leaves a small dent on the floor, and yet when we were instructed to go with a high-quality product, no one bothered to mention that it was also one of the most delicate types of wood. Told us they had a certain hardwood we were looking for in stock, so we went to the store and they actually did not even have it in stock to look at.
