These guys did a fantastic job! I love my floors and I feel like I got my money's worth. Further, I was working on a really limited timeline ( I was having furniture delivered to my new condo and only had a two week window.) Despite the Thanksgiving Holiday, the folks at Dominion were able to meet my timeline and delivered a really quality vinyl flooring for what I think was a very fair price. Further I was very impressed with the installation team's attention to detail. I came home to find the installation team leader on his stomach using a knife to scrape away the odd piece of glue that I don't thinkI would have even noticed. This sort of attention to detail was greatly appreciated and is all too rare in the contracting world. Finally, I would note prior to going to Dominion I had gone to Home Depot. Home Depot quoted me a slightly cheaper price for a far inferior laminate product, but were totally inflexible in terms of delivery dates, times and even told me that while they would deliver flooring to my condo building, I would be responsible for moving the flooring to the apartment itself. This is what pushed me to find an alternative and I am glad that I found Dominion; a quality product for a fair price. Plus I am supporting a local business vice a soulless chain. I highly recommend Dominion Floors! After moving to Arlington in a house that needed some TLC we have used Dominion to update multiple rooms with different flooring. We put new carpet in our home office as well as hardwood floors in our primary bedroom and LVP in the basement. The hardwoods were matched to existing floors. Unfortunately we had to do our basement twice due to a flood and Dominion Floors made it so easy to do the repair! Their team is so helpful with everything from providing quotes, scheduling the work, and helping to choose the perfect floor. They are exceptionally patient and easy to communicate with. You would be jealous of my wood floor. It's pretty glorious. I have an adjoining dining room that it needed to match seamlessly. It matches. Seamlessly. I should write a 5 star review right? Mkay well...yes the end result is dreamy however, I confess after the floor was laid and finished i had a bit of a melt down because the color did NOT match. AT ALL. It was...pink. My nerves already frazzled in the middle of a kitchen remodel, I immediately snapped about 37 pictures and send them to Dominion floors with my concerns. I got no response. None. The next morning I went down to check out my pink kitchen...and well...it wasn't pink anymore. It was....perfect. This company says what you want to hear and then does what they want to do. I hired them to install an 18 square feet area of hard wood that can be either floated or glued. I took it in for Ken to look at and he said they would glue it down. But, when the wood installers came with Ray (the recon guy), he told them to float it because it couldn't be glued due to an uneven floor. So, they floated it but neglected to attach it in several spots and it came up almost immediately in three spots. They spent a total of 1.5 hours and they charged me $500. They were also supposed to put tiles in another small area 20 sq. ft. I asked Ray if they could install the tiles on top of the existing vinyl flooring without removing it as our town home was built in the late 60's when they used asbestos glue. Ray assured me that they could do this. When the tile people started to work a few weeks later, I checked in on them after about 30 minutes and they had scraped up the old tile and left a huge, smelly mess with the possibility of asbestos floating around my house. The tile people told me that Ray was wrong, that they couldn't put tile over vinyl and just started taking up the old without my permission. If Ray had told me they couldn't put tile over vinyl, I would have had them put the floating wood in that 20 square ft. area as well. Ray did not tell them either that I did not want my existing flooring removed due to fears of Asbestos. So, I asked Ray if when he sent his wood people out to fix the 18 square feet area of floating floor that had come undone, if they could go ahead and put floating hardwood over the place that had been scraped up (20 sq. ft.) and he said only if I paid an additional $500 fee. I offered to pay half ($250) as it was half their doing that this happened and he refused. So, as I mentioned Ray tells you what you want to hear but his workers do what they want to do as he doesn't either relay the message or he doesn't know what he is doing. After getting 5 estimates, we hired Dominion Floors. We were impressed by the reviews on Angie's list, but concerned about the not-so-great reviews on Yelp. We realized that the Yelp reviewers probably aren't familiar with the "ebb and flow" of home renovations. Seriously Yelpers, reviews like: "The floors look great, but it took them a month to come back and put in a piece of trim and they couldn't fix a squeak" don't deserve 2 stars. What's more important? Beautiful, quality work, or experiencing complete convenience during the process? A week before, I called to get an idea of when to expect the team to arrive (yes, I had to be proactive) and then went on vacation and left the rest to the renovation gods. Hector and his crew arrived when they said they would and got to work right away. Our floors are absolutely beautiful! They even installed baseboards in our office (that we had purchased, but never got around to installing). We are thrilled with the results! read more

I have used this business for a lot of work through the years. In the past, I found them to be much more responsive and they did a decent job. As always, had to keep an eye on installers to ensure That the details were done as I would want, and they did once have to come back to fix some untidy work. But I was largely happy with them... Which is why I went back to them recently. This time I could not get the staff to return my phone calls or emails. They had me on hold with an important renovation for weeks. Perhaps top priority goes to big jobs, and lesser customers are considered not worthy of a response. I was really shocked and disappointed in a business that produced good work in the past. Basic business etiquette is responding to customers. The respect was definitely lacking and I will not return again. It was a very disappointing experience... read more

Unfortunately I did not have a good experience with the materials installed by Dominion Floors. We worked with Dominion to select a floor and upon installation the floors immediately exhibited an abnormal snap crackle and pop through all high traffic areas. Upon alerting dominion floor to this issue dominion came out pulled up our floors and spent considerable time and effort to level our floor over the course of 4 days. Throughout this process Dominion was very good with communication. Unfortunately, after leveling the floor the issue with the floor snap crackling and popping did not change. I than followed up with the flooring company who claimed that the flooring issues was within spec and that any issues were related to our subfloor which as i noted above had already been leveled. Dominion offered to replace our basement floors for an additional $5,0000. Ultimately we decided to decline and replace our floors down the road. I can't say that i recommend Dominion but I do feel that they worked hard to make the outcome a good one. Unfortunately, the end result was not a good one. Perhaps we just got unlucky with our flooring choice but I would consider other options when looking at flooring installers. read more

I hired Dominion Floors to install new oak flooring in my addition. The results are perfect! The new floors match the older, original floors so well, you wouldn't know which was which. I also had Dominion sand and varnish the older floors, so everything is glowing and beautiful! It does take time in between the estimate and the actual floor laying. Allowing for time for the supplies to arrive and the work crew to be assigned is important. The contractor had Dominion to the house during the addition work, allowing for enough time for everything to be set up. Dominion was there at the specified day and got the work done in a timely manner. There was sanding dust left behind - to be expected. They cleaned and vacuumed the obvious places, but it's impossible to clean every surface after sanding the floors. There was one spot where some varnish got on a painted wall. I just opted to paint over that. All-in-all, my experience with Dominion Floors was great! read more

We had a horrible dishwasher accident and called a few places to get quotes. Dominion came out and gave us a free quote. They showed up on time, were very helpful in my house and had a few good suggestions for what kind of product would work for us. Ken suggested LVT, something we hadn't really heard of. I thought it was going to be hard coordinating with the insurance company, but he assured us that they deal with a lot of insurance quotes and knew exactly what to do. We visited the showroom and they had a great selection! We really liked the Armstrong LVT (luxury vinyl tile) and signed out a few to take home. They didn't even ask for a deposit, they just trusted us to bring them back. We got the quote back and felt really good about going with Dominion. We paid our deposit and scheduled our work. They were able to do the installation the following week. Daniel and his assistant showed up at when they were supposed to and did a great job! I thought it was going to take longer than it did, but they were able to rip out the old and install the new quickly. We now have a new kitchen that looks different and better than it did before. Even though it was a hassle to go through the insurance company, in the end I am almost glad that we had the accident. The floors look great! Thank you Ken and Dominion Floors! read more

We hired Dominion to install 1) a cork floor, 2) refinish oak floors, and 3) install a carpet. We fired them after we saw their work on the cork floor. The floor looks AWFUL!! The tiles 1) show an obvious angle against our cabinets and 2) were installed in a way that caused huge gaps between tiles. If I could give them negative stars or zero stars, I would. Then there was the interpersonal unpleasantness and refusal to make any adjustments. You would think the size of this job might have meant we'd get some customer service; but when we approached Dominion about the floor being crooked, they said they stuck with their guys - and wouldn't budge on helping correct this. The gaps showed up when the weather turned less humid. Our first indication that this was not a good place to do business was during the selection process when I returned two of four sample tiles and the sales person reprimanded me for having had the samples out for too long. I was stunned and asked why he hadn't called me if he needed them back. He never apologized; and although he agreed I could keep the two remaining samples to make final decisions, he was not pleasant to deal with. Then, when we ordered the cork tile, we were told we would have to wait to have it shipped from Portugal as the stock was depleted. The date of delivery kept getting longer. How did they not know this prior to our order? After we fired them, they refunded us the remaining deposit, but it took a second trip to the store to remind them that they hadn't given us the refund. Where do I begin. I contracted Dominion Floors to do the entire floor renovation for my house: Sanding/staining, Hardwood removal/installation, and carpet installation. They aren't exactly cheap, but considering they have been around for a while, I thought I was getting industry professionals. Little did I know I'd have no other option but to file a criminal fraud/theft report on a company like this. Sanding/staining: The work completed was solid. No complaints here. EXCEPT that the workers had a 10 year old kid in the house during the whole process, inhaling those toxic fumes, and making figurines out of our caulking. These creative action figures were left throughout the entire house, to include on top of our new appliances and cabinets. He also decided to play Luke Skywalker with our shower rod, ultimately breaking it. To add to the frustration, they changed the settings on our thermostat and lowered it to 50. So, if you don't mind your house being a daycare and want a decent sanding/staining job, go ahead and use them. Carpet installation: The work completed was mediocre. I placed the order for my carpet and was told it was in stock and ready. Two weeks pass and still no carpet. Turns out they forgot to place my order, yet were so quick to take my money. The transitions are more noticeable than I had expected, but carpet is carpet. There were no wrinkles and the job was acceptable. My only complaint here is they cut the baseboards inside our home, despite being asked not to cut wood inside the home. This created a heavy layer of sawdust on the vents and walls. I found it to be extremely rude especially since I was 8 months pregnant at the time. Hardwood removal/installation: The work completed was mediocre at best. Throughout the whole process I had to stay on top of them to point out flaws and significant gaps between the boards. We even had the manager, Ken, come to our home to look at the issues. The workers were very inconsiderate and would even cut the boards inside our home! Once instructed to stop this practice, they would cut the boards outside but leave the doors open so the sawdust would float in anyway. They then tried to tell me the job was complete with boards and trim missing from the landing step, blaming another contractor. After showing the manager the before and after pictures of their work, they conceded and took another month before they finally came to our home--but blamed a missing piece for not completing the work. They then asked for a goodwill payment for the remaining balance since all was left was a landing step. Despite the fact that their contract stipulates full payment when work is completed, I wanted to be nice and authorized a $3,000 charge and paid with my credit card over the phone. Big mistake. A couple weeks later I still hadn't heard from them but receive a hit on my credit card for over $900. I contact them the next day to explain the severe fraudulence of this unauthorized transaction, and they were quick to apologize, blaming a third party. Three days pass and I still don't have the funds back into my account. Ally, another manager, apologized and blamed a power outage in his office for this. So much for the third party lie. He then scheduled the job completion for that same day and asked if it was necessary to reimburse me. Clearly he didn't get the point. I am not at all surprised, but the crew never came despite making the appointment, and I still have not received the funds back into my account. I cannot believe I have no other option but to file a criminal fraud/theft report on Dominion Floors. I am not one to write a review, but I felt a responsibility to warn the general public of these weasels. Overall, I would not recommend this company even to my worst enemy. read more

I was very happy with the work that Dominion Floors did installing new carpet in my two bedrooms. They came out pretty quickly to do a free measurement. After the measurement we went to their shop to pick out carpet. They have a TON of carpet and hardwood floor options, everything from the lowest budget and ultra luxury flooring. At the store they helped us out with choosing the carpet based on our needs. They completed the installation pretty quickly, moving our furniture around as needed and cleaning everything up afterwards. Just two bedrooms is a pretty small job but they didn't treat it any different than a bigger job, the service was excellent. If I move and need new flooring again I'll definitely go with Dominion Floors. read more

I was extremely dissatisfied with the overall service and responsiveness of Old Dominion Floors. I had the floor redone in my kitchen in mid Nov. I immediately advised them that the tiles were not laid properly. Most or the edges were curled up. Their man came out and agreed. I then had to wait for the manufacturer rep to inspect. He agreed that the floor had to be redone. It took until mid March for the replacement. Old Dominion was unresponsive to my numerous requests for progress reports. They often failed to keep me advised about status. They didn't get it that I was their customer and that their relationship with their supplier was their problem and that I was not interested hearing "we are waiting to hear from the supplier". All in all it was a most unprofessional experience. This company has gone down hill and are living on past glory. read more

I am very disappointed in the level of service and responsiveness from Dominion Floors. It took 3 days to do the work (good) and then a month to have the installer come back out to install a small piece of threshold (bad). We'd wait all day (many days) for the installer to come back as scheduled but he wouldn't show up or bother to call. We almost missed him when he arrived unscheduled at 7:30 pm one Friday evening! Worse, from day one we asked that they try to quiet a floor squeak. At each step of the way we asked again and were told "at the next step". Well, it's been 2 months now and today Dominion Floors sent me an email saying they don't do that sort of repair. I wish they'd told me that from the beginning. We would have made other arrangements. Now it's too late. I expected better from Dominion Floors. read more

While they did a good job on carpeting one room they completely botched the stairs. They cut it wrong at first and then cut and pasted with the extra carpeting which now means there are seams. I was extremely dissatisfied with the job itself and the customer service provided. read more

I have been using Dominion Floors for years. They have a wide selection including some great high end carpet. I moved 35 miles away from Arlington and they were still willing to provide service. The install went great - we had a small mix up with the pattern which ended up costing more than the original price quoted. They made the change only charging me their cost for materials. I called another company that my husband knows through his contracting agency and asked for a comparative price; he told me the Dominion Floor price was a steal. Thought things were looking good, liked salesman, they worked with us around painting and laying flooring, etc. Then it came to installation! One of the workers fell off a joist and landed in our basement -- almost on our TV, Dry wall, painting had to be repaired. Then apparently he pulled out an electrical connection and three of our outlets did not work. We called Dominion and they never would call back, finally quit taking our calls. We ended up having to hire our own electrician, get a jerry-rigged job because we would have had to tear up our basement ceiling again, and we had to pay $250.00 because of their incompetent installers. do not recommend them. read more

Very disappointed in the service level. Ordered 4 carpet mats of various sizes and they said it would be ready in 2-3 days. When we called to find out if they were ready they said one of the mats was mistakenly given to another customer who was returning it. When we got to the store the dominion floors salesman gave us another story that the mat material was on back order and he had no idea when it would be in. The other customer who got our mat was no longer in the picture. The sales rep did not apologize for their mistake but offered a lesser quality mat. Not what we ordered. We have no idea when we will get the mat we ordered. This business needs to put the customer first! read more

Dominion supplied cork flooring for a renovation about three years ago. The boards contracted and moved, leaving gaps, in some places significant gaps. We called them to fix. After several attempts to get someone to do something over the years, including discussions between contractor and Dominion about who was responsible, we finally called and said, just fix it, we don't care who pays for it. The owner or manager said, we'll do it for time and materials. I said, fine; how do we figure this? He said, $350 (that's time and materials?). I said, fine. The guy comes out and fixes it all in about forty minutes. He volunteers that he normally take payment, but this went so fast he'll talk to them about the cost. I don't hear anything. I got a call barely a week later demanding to know -- form of a question, but it wasn't a question, if you know what I mean -- why we haven't paid yet. I explained the above. No apology, no recognition that she was talking to a homeowner who had lived with a crappy floor for three years he had been trying to get someone to fix, no recognition that the reason why payment wasn't rendered at the time of the service was because the worker hadn't requested it. Blecch. They're right up the street, but I won't be using them again. Never felt welcome there, and this iced it. read more

I'm not sure what kind of business they are running . . .. We ordered floor tiles and asked them to calculate the right amount given the square footage. The contractor laid the tiles and came up one short. Rather unfortunate, but these things happen. So we had to order another full package to complete the job. Nearly a week after we ordered the new tiles, on the day they were supposed to be in, I called the store to check on them. The person on the phone told me that they had just received word that day that the tiles were backordered. How can it be that they only learned the day they were due in that the item was backordered? We were able to get someone to come out and give us an estimate and offer good suggestions on the products they sold, etc. We had our wood floor installed yesterday. The installer and his team were just amazing. I am very pleased with my new tile floor installed by Dominion in the kitchen, bathroom, and laundry room. The install team took great care to get every cut exactly right and was patient with me as I made last minute decisions or changes. The floor looks beautiful! I also appreciated that they cleaned up as they went along and checked to make sure that everything was perfect before they left. Dominion Floors uses excellent materials but the workmanship of their installation was careless. They laid sheet vinyl flooring over an obvious floor drain, installed laminate planking so there were gaps and shoddy transition strips, and they damaged some of our property. It was disappointing. Just got our floors done for our retail business. Great experience. I had seen this flooring business many times over the years in the shopping center in which they are located, but I never had the need for flooring until recently. This time I had a need and they took a great deal of time with me to consider my options in vinyl plank flooring for my business. They had a great variety of options. I had dropped by Home Depot already and while their representative was also helpful, they were not as informed about flooring options that would not require costly/excessive base concrete preparations. The particular flooring I picked through Dominion was on back order at their supplier, so I had to wait a bit, but they gave me a realistic estimate of when the product would be to them and it was worth the wait! The flooring looks great and is distinctive. When a minor issue came up after the initial installation, the installer came back out in short order to address it. Very happy with the product, service and price! read more

We researched before using this company. Initial installation was wonderful. We were told we could use the floor immediately but shortly after we started using the floor, I noticed marks, looked more closely and realized the dog's claws were leaving holes in the grout and the installer knew there was a dog. They came back and "fixed" the grout with instructions to keep the dog off it for 6 hours which was fine -- I would have been glad to do this the first time. Afterwards, there were still some "holes" from the initial installation problem -- I think that as the grout fix dried, some holes hadn't been filled and reappeared. When I went to make final payment, I told the receptionist we still had "holes," but there was no offer to make it right, just the taking of our money. I'm pleased with the product and design consultation. I am not pleased with the customer service. I'll probably use them again, but redo is a hassle so I'll be very, very careful about the original installation in the future. Too bad, because I think I'm paying for the customer service too. read more
