Ignored Certified Letter, Left Home Damaged & Incomplete…read more If you are considering Flooring America in Fairfax, BEWARE. We paid them over $40,000 for a major installation and were left with unfinished job, poor workmanship, and complete stonewalling from management. After our sales point of contact Yamah stopped responding to calls and texts, we visited and called the store repeatedly. This is when we discovered after months of Yamah making excuses, he retired without passing on our file. Every employee promised management would reach out. No one ever did. Desperate for a resolution, we sent a Certified Letter via USPS directly to store management outlining critical issues: two uninstalled vanities, uninstalled closet doors in two rooms, unstable kitchen cabinets, missing toe kicks, work quality issues, and dangerous trim undercuts. They ignored the certified letter entirely. No call, no email, no effort to fix their mistakes. They show total disregard for their customers and their own contractual obligations. Save yourself the stress and hire a contractor who stands behind their work.

I inspected the final product today and did not have a single change or complaint. In fact, I hired them to paint our whole home. You can trust their workmanship. The team members were professional, responsive to our concerns and delirvered to our expectations. No delays, no additional cost or changes, no surprises.

While the crew did a solid job installing my flooring, it doesn't excuse the lack of communication…read morefrom Yusef, the salesman and (per Sam a manager) the project lead. They were late 2 out of 3 days without notifying me, and the job felt rushed. Yusef promised me a $500 discount. Later, he denied ever making the offer, and the manager attempted to reduce it to $100. The manager also implied that only his word matters, using an example meant to justify why the original agreement shouldn't count. Customers shouldn't have to figure out which employees have "authority" -- if an employee makes a promise on behalf of the company, the company should honor it. Something I learned after the fact -- and wish I'd known before signing -- is that in many flooring companies, salespeople work on commission, sometimes 5-15% of the total sale. Managers may also receive a commission override. Installation crews are typically paid a set rate or per-square-foot amount, which means the company's actual cost is often much lower than the customer price. In these setups, discounts sometimes come out of the salesperson's commission, which could explain why I received pushback on the agreed $500. I'm not claiming to know this company's exact pay structure, but it's worth consumers being aware of how this industry often works so they can make fully informed decisions. I ultimately received the correct discount, but only after unnecessary back-and-forth, unprofessional behavior, and an attempt to undermine my honesty. I cannot recommend this company to anyone who values clear communication and integrity.

They do spot on work every time and manage the entire scope of the project - flooring, painting, cabinetry, ceilings, plumbing, tile work. Anything you need - they'll do it AND coordinate all of the crew which is heaven sent for our home owners who have other pressing matters. If they can't do something due to time constraints or scope of the work - they always are upfront and tell home owners the reality instead of "just what they want to hear". They have completed every project we've referred them to on time. What company can say that?!

When we first used them, they did a shoddy job and had to call and ask them to come back again to fix some trim and molding. They simply glued trim in between our dining room and kitchen and almost immediately it lifted off. Since then, we've had to nail and fix it several times ourselves. I've lived in homes with floating floors before and never had had the issues that we've had with these. The only reason we went with this company is because the previous owner used them to install the kitchen flooring and wanted to match it. (Which they denied that they installed the kitchen floor when I called recently to ask about all the gaps showing up. I have all the historic emails to prove otherwise.)

First American Carpet & Rug Provided Exceptional Quality and Service…read more Lured by a military discount and rebate promotion, we endured a frustrating and time-consuming experience from Lowes Home Improvement. After multiple visits to the store and dealing with conflicting information on process and cost, we had enough and returned to First American Carpet & Rug, where we first bought and carpeted our home in 1984. Derrick competently presented us with quality carpet options and offered a great deal, including high-rated quality padding with a moisture barrier. This padding enhanced comfort extended the carpet's life, and improved insulation and soundproofing. The most rewarding aspect of working with First American was interfacing with only two people, Derrick, and the installation team, and receiving consistent information. Derrick personally visited our home to precisely measure the bedrooms, hall, and stairway. Jose, the son of Orlando who installed our carpets in 1984, led his team of experienced installers who must have exceeded industry standards and best practices. They did an outstanding job, with seams strategically placed to be inconspicuous and the carpet cut accurately around edges and obstacles, transitioning smoothly to bathroom tiles. Within an hour of project completion, Derrick made a follow-up visit to ensure the carpet met all workmanship standards. He emphasized the importance of proper stretching to avoid potential wrinkles and was pleased with the tight stretch and his precise measurements that minimized waste and ensured a perfect fit. We will always rely on First American Carpet for our flooring needs.

I'm sorry but that's extremely cowardly to completely avoid talking to a customer to resolve an issue. The installers did not remove the old carpet padding, despite it saying to do so in the contract. We did not find out until later when we needed to pull up a corner of the carpet. Was baffled that they literally cut corners. They also didn't tell us that the subfloors needed repairing and did a crappy job of patching it with scrap wood.
