Got the brisket platter, cheese Mac and collard greens. Brisket was shredded and a bit dry. sauce was ok, Mac was a little dry and oddly seasoned. The greens were very good. Staff was pleasant and friendly. It was $28.00. read more

My wife and I stopped there this weekend for a late dinner. The staff was friendly, the food was delicious and came out quickly. I read previous reviews where they gave low stars. One lady complained they stopped there with a party of 30 people. Did you contact them prior and let them know you were about to slam them with 30 people? 3-4 people serving 30 people would be overwhelmed. Use your head!!! read more

The food was good. The ribs were tender and I ordered to go a half chicken which was good and tender. The vegetables was just OK. Period. I don't think the greens were fresh greens from garden to table. But they were good and I have macaroni. No, I have potato salad and macaroni and cheese cheese. Corn bread if I lived there, I would ask for a job and make the food even better for I am an excellent southern cook and I could really make that food pop. The lady that had the 30 people from the repass. The restaurant should have made special catering platters for that group if it was ordered ahead of time. that would've been a proper way to do that order the order platters of food have the food prepared, and as each member of the repass came, they will receive that food. It could've been served buffet style, or just served from whatever they had left in there in their catering menu and if it was not enough, the restaurant could've added more. I just charge the lady a little extra money for the extra food. Overall, the service was good and the barbecue was good. You can't find open pit barbecue cooked out like that anywhere in New Jersey that I know of that has that taste if there are some other places, I don't know about them, but we stopped the spontaneously and it was other people sitting there eating and we had no problem ordering and being served on a pleasant Sunday afternoon. read more

Very basic barbecue place, but they do it right. The ribs were great and my wife had the brisket and said it was tasty and tender. The home made Mac and cheese was good and the hush puppies and corn bread were fantastic. The service was great on a really hot day. Definitely worth the drive from Medford Lakes. We'll be back, with friends next time. read more

Three out of six ribs of the half rack I bought on 10/29 were burnt. I'm told a full rack is usually good. Why not toss the burnt parts when slicing up racks for platters. A cool spot to stop by with super friendly people and a super clean port-a-pottie! I know I need to review the food here and must say I wanted the food to be better than it was. The ribs had barely any flavor. We understood when they said they couldn't have anything spicy because some people complain or are allergic but just a little flavor would have been great. Maybe a little barbecue sauce? I was hoping to see some spices on the table out by where you can sit and eat but there were none. The string beans stood out over the ribs and the tasteless potato salad. Would not go back unless I read some future reviews saying the food flavor is awesome. Was headed to a wedding down RT 40 and pulled a quick u-turn after smelling the smoke from outside. Best decision ever as the ribs were AMAZING. My in laws and I took an order to go and we'll gladly drive back over an hour to eat these ribs again. Rick is very knowledgeable about his smokers and techniques. visited this place for the second time today,i witnessed the gentleman who took my order, take a break and on his break he went out and smoked a cigarette, blew his nose with his bear hand, meaning no tissue. after taking his break he went back inside, picked up his personal towel, wiped his face and nose with it and never washed his hands. i would never ever go back to this place again. and for that they don't deserve a star and i'm only putting this one start because i have to otherwise i would put zero. read more

After seeing FYI I decided to give Rick's Backyard BBQ a try. I figured it would probably be busy because it was Friday, and the publicity from the show would generate more traffic so I was prepared to wait. Unfortunately I do not believe he anticipated the amount of traffic he received. I waited over 2 1/2 hours for my order without much of an apology. I sat in my car and waited for my number to be called, but every other number, even those who came after me was called. When I walked back to the counter what I got from Rick was, "sorry, it takes time." I felt like the register he was fiddling with was more important than the customer who was putting money in it. I spent close to $60 and left a nice tip. I wish I could say it was worth the wait, but it was not. It seemed like the sides were from the bottom of the pan. If they had run out, rather than to have scraps, I would have been open to trying something else. I think a little more attention needs to be put into cutting that wait time down. And if your customers are waiting, acknowledge them, apologize sincerely and maybe offer them a water. I drove over 30 minutes to support a business that I do not feel appreciated the support. The bright spot was the young lady with the glasses and braids/twists. She was very pleasant and considerate. read more
