So we have driven by 1000's of times visiting my parents. My dad said he never had it because my brother that lives close said it was garbage. When I saw Rich's Pizza Joint has roots at Charcoal Pit on 63rd Street by Midway I just had to try it. Charcoal Pit was our family 'go to' place in the 60's and 70's. I was really hoping I'd be taking a trip down memory lane but the recipe was not the same. Charcoal Pit had a much thinner crust and grease in all the right places. We ordered the Uncle Richie (sausage, pepperoni, and banana peppers) and also a plain cheese because I like to judge a new pizza place on crust/sauce/cheese only too. This pizza is literal perfection: crispy thin crust, the exact right amount of cheese that's carmelized and brown at the edges, and sauce that isn't too sweet. The bottom crust has all those special little black pan crumbs we all know and love. This pizza gives you that 80s dark paneled bar filled with cigarette smoke homey feeling, and will make you crave a cold draft beer served by a raspy voiced grandma behind the bar calling you honey and refilling the little wooden bowl of peanuts. We came for dinner today around 530 and were the only people in the restaurant besides one man at the bar. The bartender didn't get off her stool to greet us and told us we could sit anywhere. We chose our seat and we were greeted promptly by the waitress. We tried to look over the beer menu but she didn't give us time and hovered. I also didn't get offered a second drink because she didn't come back. We ordered the bruschetta which left much to be desired. It was basically a chopped up tomato with shredded cheese on some bread. Half the ingredients were missing. The pizza was really good. It says on the menu that they cook the pizzas well done and we even requested it be well done. It was not well done. The ingredients were fresh and the sauce was good. It had a thinner crust which I love. We will be back for the pizza but won't order an appetizer. read more

I have not found a pizza place that can produce a better pizza then Rich's Cheezy Chicago Two Flat. Worth every minute of the additional time it takes to make the pizza. Perfectly Cheezy and crispy at the same time. Fresh toppings every time. Our regular go to is the Around the World pizza plus pepperoni and made as a Cheezy Two Flat. Yummy! read more

Had thin crust take out a few times. It's just "ok" pizza. Need to get a lot of ingredients on it to achieve any sort of flavor. Sometimes you pick it up in the back. Sometimes there's a sign to pick up in the bar. Sometime they tell you where to pick up when you place the order. Make up your mind! Back parking lot has never had more than one spot to park. Never felt very welcomed or appreciated as a customer. Once there was some teenagers in the back pick up window who waited until she was done with whatever was so important on Facebook to greet me to take my money. First time I had here, I thought the thin crust was a little better than average, nothing all that special but good enough to try again. Second time, I tried their special double thin crust with cheese between and WOW, now that is THE BEST. It's like Chicago thin tavern style and deep dish had a pizza baby. It's still very much thin and crispy but with a extra bit of cheese like stuffed crust without being deep dish thick. It's genius and I can't believe no other place does it like that. read more

Rich's is one of our favorite pizza places. We called in an order for our usual pizza. Been getting the SAME pizza since they opened. When we got there and checked our pizza, it was made wrong. Hubby went back inside to have them make a new one. Finally got the new one and it also wasn't right. Half pepperoni, half easy sausage, with the pepperoni ON TOP of the cheese is how we ordered it. My husband questioned the woman taking the order, explaining that it was wrong again. The pizza was extra sausage all over! And the pepperoni all over also and not on top of the pizza, she said that's how we make them! We always put the pepperoni under the cheese! Since when does the place decide how YOU want your pizza. Hubby is going to call Rich tomorrow and see wha the problem was with this woman refusing to make our pizza the way we ordered it. CHECK your pizza before you take it home! Just got another screwed up pizza. They make my favorite pizza IF they make it right. They maybe get it right 30% of the time and that's AFTER we ask it to be remade. I am done! I can't eat that crap and fight with my husband about it, because he brought the piece of crap HOME. We called to complain about our last pizza and were told that Rich would call us back. That never happened. And this is the second time we have had to do that. We never got a call back. If it was a CONSISTENTLY good pizza, I'd let it go, but come one, our pizza is screwed up most of the time. And Colleen is right about my hubby checking the pizza. And he's had to wait to have the pie remade the right way. He's brought one pie home, knowing it wasn't right, but he was too hungry to wait for another one to be made. How many times does that have to happen before someone really gets mad and posts to Yelp? How many chances are we supposed to to give you? We never got call backs or any sincere apology or explanation. I've worked at a pizzeria for years and have never EVER had any employee treat a customer like that. Great location with plenty of parking. There is a bar that has a lot of locals that are friendly. An old biker dude is the bartender. The dining room has tables and booths and the pizza was just like Vito and Nicks which my husband likes. Very friendly with great service. Laid back vibe just the way we like it. read more

My husband and I ordered this pizza as a take out. When we got home and opened the box, we both said, "This pizza looks burnt" Then, as we were eating it, we looked on the menu stapled to the box, which said "We cook it well done" Too bad we didn't know this ahead of time, so we could of asked them NOT to cook it well done. (which was actually burnt.) We continued to eat some of it because we were hungry, but I can honestly say it was one of the worst pizza we ever had. Just a quick update. Some restaurants are a business, a way to make money. This place is different. The owners have a passion. Our order got mixed up, I thought no problem, sh÷t happens. The owners didnt. They quickly fixed it, and all I can day is most places would have said sorry, f u, not this amazing place. The owner talked to my wife, not some assistant, apoligized, and went beyond making it right. If you aren't coming here it is your loss. Great food, great location, the bar is a fun group, the servers are amazing, carry out is perfect, delivery food is the same quality as dine in, which is head and shoulders above the rest.
