We were traveling through and found this on Yelp. Cute decor and vibe. Friendly service. We both opted for the "hot bar." I believe it was $16.99 each. Salad bar was average and they had 4 different soups, which the 2 we had were good. A loaf of homemade bread was available and it was very good. On this day, they featured pasta on the bar which was fettuccine noodles with an alfredo and a marinara sauce and a lasagna option. We tried all of it but it was barely luke warm, barely, almost cold, so it was unedible for us both, which was a bummer. So, overall, I thought it was a bit pricey for salad, soup and bread. I had a SMALL glass of wine for $6 and my Husband had a Coors Light for $4. I would not go back due to the fact the"hot" pastas were cold. read more

My family was in the area checking out the big items in Casey, IL (including the worlds largest mailbox) and decided to check out the largest pitchfork. Seems it was located at this restaurant. And my oh my did they deliver some good country cooking. I had the one pound pork chop. It was so tender it literally fell off the bone. I also had the cheese curds and Fried mushrooms. The curds were ok but I recommend you get the mushrooms. They were the best I've had in awhile. The building is essentially an old mill farm they turned into a restaurant. We took a day trip from St. Louis to Casey, IL for Thanksgiving and had a great time. We loved Richard's Farms buffet with a choice for every taste. Between the friendly staff and the barn ambience, it was the perfect place for our family feast. Afterwards, the walk through the town visiting all the World's Largest... Great place even during a pandemic! They had an optional "social distancing" area if you wanted to maintain guidelines and another area that did not require mask but still seated with social spacing. Let's get to the food & service. Food: I ordered the chicken strips (waitress suggested) with green beans. The wife ordered the Italian beef (she's an Italian beef snob) and mashed potatoes (also a mashed tater snob). Chicken was breaded in house and was amazing! Juicy and great flavor to the breading. Green beans were mediocre and came in bulk. You could tell. Still very good! Wife said the Italian beef ranked rather high! It was amazing in my book! The mashed potatoes... REAL TATERS PEOPLE! They used real taters! The wife was impressed! We also got dessert! I got bread pudding and it was superb! The sauce was yummy. I think the bread part was reheated since it was a little unevenly warmed. Wife got the strawberry cheesecake! (She's a cheesecake snob) and she loved it! So did I! The strawberry was similar to a preserve or jam. It was perfect! Guessing it was home made. The waitress wasn't overboard and she was still attentive. She did great! Def a new fave place! We stopped in Casey yesterday on the way to St. Louis. Gotta see all the BIG THINGS, right? While visiting the giant pitchfork we decided to eat at Richard's Farm Restaurant. I had the one pound pork chop while my husband had the Town House chicken. The chop was a bit dry, which is very likely when cooking something thick as your wrist. Flavor, overall, was really good. Mashed potatoes and green beans were also good home-y sides. My husband's chicken was pronounced delicious, along with the basic sweet potato and salad sides. The peach cobbler tasted like grandma made it, with an undercurrent of some spice we couldn't quite identify. The overall ambience is a throwback to the 1970's, 70s country farm style. Nostalgic, but really not offensive. We would certainly eat there again. read more

A bit pricey for the food quality. Plate presentation could be better. Flatlanders BBQ was simply pulled pork partially slapped on a thick slice of garlic bread. Flavor was fine, but not worth the $15 price. Wife had the Haymow Burger for $16+ and that was cooked well, but nothing setting it apart from a thousand other restaurants. Pecan pie and ice cream ($7) also not worth it. Pecan pie looked almost as thin as a pizza pie. No depth to it whatsoever. Fair flavor. That's why I'm rating it average. Food was average. The main reason we decided to eat here was the giant pitchfork located beside the restaurant. And the giant pitchfork was definately the highlight. It's not that the food was bad. It was fine. Fine is not great though. I just felt it was a little overpriced for a small town in Illinois, even if it is by the world's largest pitchfork. read more

It's like walking into grandma's house. Somehow with all that space it still feels super cozy and comforting. And the food is SO GOOD! We shared a basket of fried onions and jalapeños, the breading was light and airy and not too spicy! My sister and I shared the Italian beef sandwich and it was perfect! Cheesy, slight spice, and really flavorful. The au jus topped it all off perfectly. My nephew and niece who are notoriously picky eaters declared the Mac and Cheese and french fries the beat they ever had! I'm a total nut all for bread pudding and so had to try it. It was good! I could have drunk the bourbon sauce all by itself! Definitely worth the stop. Not to mention you get to see the worlds largest pitch fork! Plus it's a great way for little kids to run out some energy outside the restaurant with a little pond, some chickens, and some goats on the farm! The Sunday brunch buffet offers a lot of options, including a good salad bar. The best items are the desserts though, especially the pecan pie, which isn't usually a go to for me. The dining rooms are cozy and allow you to have a good conversation or watch a game. And, you can't miss the Guinness Book of World Records giant pitchfork out front. read more

3.5 Stars... Knowing I was going to stop in Casey to see the world's largest wind chime and world's largest golf tee, I was searching for a local spot for lunch. Richard's came highly recommended on Yelp, so it was a given where I would be going. Situated inside an antique barn, Richard's is packed floor to ceiling with rustic collectibles and country charm. The ambiance alone is worth the stop. Although it is not stated on the online menu, Richard's has a soup, salad, and bread buffet. The option is not only a good value, but also allows for a wide variety of options. I piled on your standard side salad ingredients, and then sampled the potato salad, pasta salad, broccoli salad, pea salad, slaw, tapioca pudding, and cold bread pudding (?). They all reminded me of items you would find behind the deli counter at a grocery store. The soups of the day were chili and French onion. Both were classic representations of family recipes. Just when you think you can't possibly carry any more back to your table, your eye catches the bread station. There were two homemade varieties of bread, white and cinnamon swirl. These can be slathered with apple butter, whipped cinnamon butter, or strawberry jam. The breads are so light and airy that they have the consistency of cotton candy. Last but not least, dessert. Our waitress recommended the peanut butter pie or blackberry cobbler al a mode. I went for the pie. It was like a marriage between cool whip and peanut butter, tasty but basic. Kudos to Richard's for all the homemade recipes and for being a good alternative to standard off-the-interstate fare. I would tell any road tripper to check it out at least once. read more

Whenever I pass thru Casey on IL-49, I see Richards Farm Restaurant off to the east. They have billboards out by the I-70 highway and I always wondered what it was like inside. I stopped in and was impressed both times by the warm feeling of eating in an old farm building. The food was excellent, the service was outstanding. They can accommodate large groups, so don't hesitate to bring a large family, especially if you are travelers. A welcome break from eating fast food all the time. Located a mile south of I-70 exit 129, and maybe a half-mile east of IL-49. Well worth the visit. read more

We have been here once before and had the salad and bread bar. I was real good and we loved the atmosphere and that made us want to come back. This time we went at dinner time. My boyfriend with the iron stomach ordered the $52 filet mignon, which he said was cooked perfectly. I ordered the $32 sirloin steak, both of us got mashed potatoes and mac and cheese as sides. We also paid for the salad bar as an additional cost. Again, the salad bar was great, as was the potato soup, although low and out of some items. The meals, however, were horrible (except the filet I guess ) Luckily I did not order gravy with my mashed potatoes, but my boyfriend did. The gravy was probably the worst tasting package gravy I have ever tried. You might was well suck on a buillion cube. Sadly, it ruined his potatoes and left a bad taste in his mouth. The mac and cheese was indescribable. Nature doesn't even make that shade of orange and it tasted horrible. The consistency of the steak didn't resemble steak at all. It was mushy feeling in the mouth and did not have a good flavor at all. Supposedly they age their steaks 28 days, but I guess I'm not a fan of aged steaks. I took one bite of steak and one bite of each side and brought my entire meal, steak and all, back home and fed it to my dogs. What a waste of money. I hear inmates at the prison make much better food than this. The side dishes being the biggest disappointment as I would be embarrassed to even serve that to my customers, much less charge them money. I have never had side dishes that bad in my 54 years. Kraft mac and cheese would have been an improvement. read more

A couple months ago, several of us enjoyed their Sunday Buffet. Really good blue cheese salad dressing. Apple butter on cinnamon bread (always a favorite with me). Good vegetables. Great fried chicken. Very good chicken and noodles. Lots of selection. Continual refilling of items. Quite good pecan pie Friendly wait staff. In addition to Sunday brunch buffet, they appear to have a Friday dinner buffet and Saturday seafood dinner buffet. Cards at the register have a buy 4 get 1 free deal on buffets. Not much around here. We were visiting old family cemeteries. But this is a good choice to have a meal if you are anywhere nearby or passing through. read more

OMG, lots of food. It is like you are back in the 70s. From the older music being played to the old 70-ish decor. I had blacken chicken with rice and mashed potato. Chicken was tender and just the right amount of spiciness. The pork was cooked perfectly. The combo appetizer was super. Maybe a little too much fried stiff for my old stomach but very yummy. You also get sales and bread bar with your entree. Just limit some salad bar stuff and you'll be able to finish almost everything. read more

We went blindly to try lunch at Richards Farm as part of our side trip to Casey to see the "World's Largest" items. Unfortunately our experience was the worlds worst. Our first 15 minutes were waiting for our server to take our drink order. We then asked to order our meal at the same time so help expedite our visit. Once we hit the 1 hour mark waiting for our 2 burgers, one sandwich and kids Mac and cheese I was told that she did see the ticket went in 35 minutes ago but the kitchen was backed up. Nice to know that an hour into our wait. Stop here for the pitchfork but don't have a lot of hope for a Sunday lunch. read more

I think Hidden Gem is a category on Yelp and this place fits the bill. Somehow in all our visits from Indy to St. Louis, we have missed Casey, Illinois, home to the "biggest" attractions. On the list was Biggest Pitchfork, located next to this restaurant. We stopped in and fell in love. The building is an old barn. It is rustic and charming and oh so inviting. The service is good and the food is delicious. My only wish is they could orient the salad bar so that you don't have to walk so close to it to access part of the dining room. I opted to skip the unlimited soup and salad because so many people had been past there, I worried about the germs. read more

Stopped in while driving cross country. We found Richard's in the book "eat your way across the USA". I popped it into yelp, saw good reviews, so we stopped on in. We hopped off of the highway, and drove up the Local 40 for a little bit, then turned right on a side street. There was plenty of parking for our car w/ trailer attached. It was such a great little barn with a fun, quirky garden. We were quickly greeted and seated when we entered. The restaurant was really big, split into lots of smaller rooms. The upstairs area was a large, wide-open space, but reserved for events. We sat in a back corner near the bar. There were lots of great old farm tools on the walls. Marcelo hit up the salad bar, but my brother and I went for burgers. I asked for their veggie black bean burger, but Memphis Style, which means it had BBQ sauce, onion rings, and coleslaw. The normal meat burger comes on a pretzel roll, but the veggie one doesn't, so if you want the pretzel roll, ask for it! (I obviously didn't, and stared at my brothers pretzel roll with eyes of envy.) Even without the pretzel roll, this was a DELICIOUS burger. The veggie burger itself was full of flavor, not bland at all which is easy to happen w/ veggie burgers. The coleslaw was AMAZING. Seriously. It was so insanely delicious, I could have eaten a giant bowl of just that. And the french fries? YES. Perfect. We ordered a coupe of desserts just to try - the apple crisp and the seasonal pudding. Both were phenomenal. Did I even mention how sweet our server was? She cut our sweet tea with unsweetened tea, so it was still sweet, just not overwhelming for us coasters. All in all, easily a 5/5 experience for us, and we will return here every time we pass through. You can eat at a Mc Donald's, or eat here. Do the right thing! read more

I got to town late and walked in at 8:05. I was told that they close at 8:30 and stop seating at 8. FIVE minutes ago. Told him I was traveling and didn't have any food and asked what other restaurants were open. He told me that all probably were already closed so he knew I had no other option. He didn't seat me anyway "If I ordered and ate quickly" or offered take out. Just told me they were not accepting me. The whole town closes at 8pm. They have the "World's Largest" everything in town to attract travellers but were very rude to this traveller. I would not recommend this restaurant or town. read more

Richards Farm is owned by the same folks who own Moggers and Stables in Terre Haute. Moggers is solid. Stables is fantastic. Richards Farm was a disappointment. The best thing about Richards is the salad bar. Great selection of toppings and salads. He homemade croutons were great. The bread pudding was a nice and interesting addition. There was a vegetable soup that I didn't try as well as some homemade bread. He beer selection was pretty disappointing after he great selections they have at Moggers and Stables. The entree portion was no good. I ordered the espresso crusted ribeye. Safe to say there was no espresso crust. The worst part was they doused it with their "bourbon sauce." Don't let them fool you - it's just bbq sauce. It was $30 dollars and I would have even paid $10 for it. The service was okay. The decor is okay, but it is very dark in there. I visited Richards Farm recently for an event and had a fantastic time. The location is easy to find off I-70, and would make a great pit stop during a trip down the interstate. The interior feels like rustic Americana, with nick-nacks and nostalgic pictures and signs decorating the timbered walls. Attached to the restaurant is a bar that looks like a cozy local watering hole; I could see myself visiting to play darts and sip a pint with friends if I lived in the area. There's also a banquet hall in the back and a picturesque backyard that's perfect for weddings. The food we ate was the kind of country cooking that nourishes the body and soul alike. I couldn't decide between ham, fried chicken, and chicken and dumplings, so I got all three with a side of mashed potatoes and green beans. They all tasted great, but I made a second round for more fried chicken since it was my favorite. The buffet line had a rustic touch with milk pails converted into light fixtures above the tables containing the food. It was all charming and homey. Bottom line: great place to stop and stretch your legs, plus get a little bit of nostalgia to boot. read more

Great find for RV'ers who need to find parking for their big rigs especially when pulling a car. We looked and saw a glancing photo of this parking lot and guessed that it had room so we were mighty happy that it did. The salad bar was really fresh and it included hot soup. There were 4 choices and we both chose chili. The other choices were cheddar broccoli, veggie, or chicken noodle. All of that plus all you can eat fresh veggies at the salad bar which included iceberg lettuce, cherry tomatoes, pickled beets, sliced onions, cucumbers, macaroni salad, minced cabbage slaw, chopped eggs, along with an assortment of a more veggies to choose from. There were many dressings to choose from including Blue cheese, Ranch, Thousand Island, French, Poppyseed Vinaigrette or if you wanted you could get the packaged Paul Newman one. If you wanted something hot then you could have gotten the Fajita and Taco special which included the salad bar. We just got the regular salad bar as we wanted to stay awake for the rest of our trip. Terrible experience. We were there for an hour and only received our drinks. My water came in a filthy glass with dried food stuck on the inside. I wasn't able to exchange it due to our server not returning to the table to check on us. We sat for another 20 minutes after receiving drinks, hadn't returned the filthy glass, and no food had been served. A table of 8 that was seated after us received their salads and drinks before we had received anything. We decided to get up and cancel our order. We left hungry and frustrated. Could be charming. Lots of variety for main courses and sides except I don't recall seeing much in the way of veggies except mashed potatoes and I believe it was cabbage. It was Sunday so they also had a breakfast bar. Lots to look at inside with local and farm style decor. It is extremely dark inside which doesn't bother me but it might some. Overall worth the trip. A true gem of Casey Illinois! Only a 35 minute drive from Terre Haute and very much worth the trip for us! Farm/barn ambiance is very nice and great food and drink menus are offered with quality food including vegetarian options and homemade desserts. Do not miss out on the soup, salad, bread bar, which is unique to this restaurant. The cinnamon bread is especially good! You can even purchase a loaf to take home. Prices are very reasonable as well! This restaurant is owned by the same group as M.Moggers and Stables in Terre Haute - some of the best restaurants in the Wabash area.
