We love Dr Tanner and REFUSE to use another dentists, my dental care does not cover this DDS so i pay out of pocket. He and his staff are simple worth it read more

I visited Dr Tanner for the first time several years ago for a second opinion when my former dentist proposed a lengthy and expensive "plan" to do many procedures I didn't think I needed. eg: Drill out and put fillings in most of my molars, drill out and fill in small groves in the back of my front teeth. Dr Tanner told me I didn't need any of those procedures, and now five years later, he's proven himself correct as I still haven't had any additional cavities or dental problems. All I have needed is cleaning and checkups since. Thank you Dr Tanner for saving me the expense and hurt of all those procedures I didn't need. read more

I will keep it very simple, Dr tanner is the best Dentist I been too. My Daughter told us about him about 20 years ago and we have been going to him since. Stephen A Kapogiannis read more

This guy is legit he is never going to try to upsell you or tell you things that you don't need which is rare. He is a hoot to talk to and provides fascinating anecdotes well he deals with the craziness in your mouth. The issue I have on yelp is that they have not updated his new phone number since he moved one door down and it was so hard for me to find his new number since I lost the postcard that they sent out! So for all the people who are looking for his number it is (925) 567-4351 read more

Found Dr. Tanner on Yelp after looking at "all" the dentists around a 25 mile radius. Good: -Competitive prices -Experienced Doctor who takes time and explains everything to you -Doctor uses more than enough Novocaine to kill any pain you may feel while being worked on. -Friendly demeanor -Parking lot Not so good: -Location is kind of hard to find (but a quick call, and they'll guide you there) -The only restroom there is in the "main" dentist room. So if your in the waiting room, you'll have to navigate through someone getting worked on to get to the restroom. (not a big deal though). read more

Thank you to all the yelpers who led me to find Dr. Tanner! First off I hate going to the dentist . Ever since I was 5yrs old i've been in and out of the dentist's office because I was a fat kid who loved cake. Luckily, it didn't cost my parents an arm & a leg back then because everything was much cheaper.. especially seeing a dentist. I've been holding off on going to the dentist for a while because i was a scary cat waiting to fall off the fence. The past weekend i've been having quite the discomfort in my mouth and finally realized it's TIME. I searched around to find a decent dentist who wouldn't scare the inner child in me, and I luckily found Dr. Tanner. I must agree with my fellow yelpers that Dr. Tanner is a wonderful , wonderful dentist. Not only did he make me feel comfortable, but he restored my confidence about going to the dentist. He was very professional, gentle and reassuring. Both Dr. Tanner and his Assistant were very caring and comforting. I would definitely recommend Dr. Tanner to anyone who is in dire need of a dentist who is trust worthy, patient, and fixes all your teeth problems. Cheers! read more

Dr. Tanner is my favorite dentist ever! He's kind, has a fantastic sense of humor, an incredibly deft and gentle hand with the needle, and he and Connie keep me rolling in laughter while they work. Before I started seeing Dr. Tanner, I hadn't had any dental care for several years, so I was well overdue. I first started coming to see him back in 2004 when I had a toothache - it seems I needed a root canal. He was able to see me the very next day and got the process started. I've had all sorts of procedures done since then, but then we got my dental care all caught up and now I only have to go in for routine cleaning. The good doctor keeps me motivated to keep up on my oral hygiene with his kind encouragement, and I never feel berated or guilty by his advice. I live in San Francisco and ride BART to Concord to see him - he's just that good. I thoroughly recommend Richard Tanner for your general dentistry needs. read more

I have been coming to Dr. Tanner now for several years and I am very satisfied with the treatment I have received. Although he has a wicked sense of humor, he is very professional and knowledgeable and does his best to keep his patients comfortable during procedures. I've never had to have anything beyond cleanings and x-rays, but my SO has required several more complex procedures - fillings, a root canal, a crown and periodontal surgery. (We were referred out to excellent specialists when necessary.) Dr. Tanner has a small practice - just him and his hygienist/receptionist Connie. I hate dentists, but I cross bridges to see Dr. Tanner - I guess that says it all... read more

Dr. Tanner is amazing! I hadn't been to the dentist in a while and I was very nervous, but he was so patient with me and explained everything in a very comfortable way. He was very quick, efficient, and personable! I'm so glad I found him, he made going to the dentist 10x less of a chore. read more

When I first went to visit Dr Tanner I had no idea that his office was formerly a home, it was a little hard to get to the parking lot because of the direction I had traveled to get there. Not a huge deal! But when I walked in and noticed that the entire office was carpeted and looked like it had been there for ages it sent off red flags. You can't possibly consider this sanitary. Once I sat down he sort of backed up and passed me a tissue saying "Yuck!!! Can you wipe whatever that is off your lips!". I'm constantly getting chapped lips especially when I have someone working on my mouth, I had no problem removing my chap stick but the fact that he was so put off and made me feel a little insulted I will never be back. He spent more time talking about his bad back than he did about my cavity. read more

If you are in need of a dentist, this is the guy for you. His staff is soooo nice and he is just a great guy. I had to have a lot of work done, and it didn't matter if it was a filling or having several teeth pulled, he kept me calm. And by the time he was done doing what he was doing, we were both laughing. I can't say enough about Dr. Tanner. read more

I love this man. His staff is so kind. They have become family and still have a great level of professionalism. He is honest and up front. Yes his office is a house. So how's that an issue. Made me feel more comfortable. Yes it's kinda hard to get into his office from the street the first time; after that it's a breeze. I can say with out a doubt Richard is the best dentist I have ever had. I have a tooth pulled and multiple other work done. He has teated better than any other dentist. To all the bad reviews. Thank you for the laughs. read more

This spring I had 6 crowns done mostly for cosmetic reasons. The crowns look natural and I now feel confident smiling. Other then the shots, there was no pain. Also the teeth he fixed for me 10 years ago are still ok. Thanks Dr. Tanner. Dave read more

I am so thankful for finding Dr Tanner! I have been paying for my Dental Insurance for 18 years but only went to the dentist for extreme emergencies because of my immense fear. First visit with Dr. Tanner and I really like him. He's very straightforward and pleasant. His technique is excellent and he is quick. That's good for a guys who dreads the drill. Angelica is very pleasant and makes you feel like family. I think I've found a new dentist and I'm very satisfied with my experience. Thanks to our friend, Irene for the referral. read more

I have been a patient of Dr. Tanner's since he opened his practice many moons ago. It's funny how many people dread going to the dentist and postpone dental care, I actually enjoy seeing Dr. Tanner. He is hilarious and professional at the same time. I have had him do extensive work from cleanings to crowns (except root canals!) and have always been satisfied with his work and more importantly him. So for all the folks looking for a great dentist forget that 1-800 site and give Dr. Tanner a call read more

I saw Dr. Tanner in March of this year. The experience was ok as far as dental visits go. Since then I've had an extremely difficult time getting in touch with the office. I've called and left multiple messages trying to resolve my bill with them and either don't receive a call back or, such is the case with today's message at 9:57am, I get a call saying they are closing early for the day and if I don't get in touch with them to call back tomorrow. It's next to impossible to get a live person from the office on the phone just to make a payment by phone. When I tried to make a payment at the time of visit I was declined because they "didn't know how much my insurance was going to pay". Needless to say I won't be returning to this office any time soon. read more

I've always been nervous to go to the Dentist, not anymore! Dr. Tanner is the BEST! He always makes you feel comfortable and does such an awesome job. My husband and I really like him and he's done things that other dentists said would cost thousands of dollars. He proved them wrong for sure. He explains everything thoroughly and makes you rfeel like he's your friend....he's such a humourous guy. I always leave smiling. We're really happy! I had really let my mouth go to ruin. I had calculus and I had plaque and I had gum disease. And after about 3 years of not seeing a dentist, I went to two different dentists who put on a great show of Hollywood nurturing but totally tried to take me to the cleaners financially and paid no attention to my needs or my situation. But this review is not about them. Dr. Tanner was recommended to me and even though I was wary and suspicious by this time I decided to give him a try. He was so kind and so compassionate and so present and so authentic. And skilled!!! Dr. Tanner totally worked with me on a needs assessment and we figured out how we could get everything I needed done finished given my situation. I don't want this review to be overkill but I really do think he is the best dentist I ever have ever gone too. He also really knows how to give shots. I am so grateful for the work he did with me and for how comfortable he made me feel. His receptionist is wonderful as well. Very welcoming and professional and organized. read more

I really, really liked my old dentist. So my Yelp review of her stands. But trekking all the way to Berkeley from Concord? Nah. So after breaking a tooth I consulted my insurance co's list and Yelp, and found Dr. Tanner. Hallelujah! Dr. T. is a big, sweet Papa Bear of a man. (And I do NOT mean Honey Boo Boo's daddy!). He's extremely kind, and gentle, and listens like I wish my mama had. And has damned good technical skills. And a terrific sense of humor, with just a slight twist. Who knew that I could get terrific dental care, and have a great time while doing so? Laughing a lot at the dentist's office? Yeah! It happens while I'm sitting in Dr. T's chair! Oh, and his assistant and office manager are the sweetest women you have no right to ever even hope to meet at a dentist's office. They are AMAZING! Just got my first crown from Dr. T. Sadly, the matching sceptor was nowhere to be found. But then, my insurance doesn't cover that... BTW, he has evening and Saturday appointments! read more

I have a huge dental phobia and Dr. Tanner has helped me to overcome that. He has been the most gentle dentist I have ever had with a great sense of humor. He is honest and has a wonderful staff. 5 weeks later, I'm still F****** sick with strep throat or whatever it is he gave me. I started my treatment with Dr. Tanner last year. I was taking care of cavities and cleaning before getting my braces. I don't have denatal insurance and explain to Dr. Tanner that I needed to pay for the work in payments. There was no set payment plan, I just paid what I could afford at the time until the balance was paid in full. He is great and his sense of humor is great! I highly recommend Dr. Tanner read more

Our whole family has been going to Dr. Tanner for many years. He was wonderful when our children were very young and they sat in their mom's lap while Dr. Tanner checked their teeth. The oldest is now 12 and has no fear of going to the "dentist"! Dr Tanner is very knowledgeable, has a sense of humor, and is a great dentist. He also referred us to an orthodontist for our oldest and he is great too. Kudos to this doctor! read more

Was very happy with Dr. Tanner. I havent had a regular dentist for over 20 years and i was getting tired of jumping around from denmtist to dentist and all of them pushing cosmetic services on me. I am not interested in any procedure unless it means i would lose my teeth otherwise. Dr. Tanners office is simple and down to earth. He is honest and ethical. I was happy he didnt see anything that needed any special work. He did nmy cleaning beautifully and will call me back in 6 months to do it again. i will be keeping him for as long as i can. He takes my specific delta dental and his costs are reasonable. The only thing that maybe someone ( not me because he wore gloves and that is what i feel is most important)may be curious about is that he did not wear a mask or goggles when cleaning my teeth. I was ok wioth that because he did wear gloves and when i was young the dentists didnt wear masks or goggles so ive grown up that way. Other than that, it was the best dental experience i have ever had( or at least can remember) So happy i found him read more
