Had a bit of a miss communication at the start of my appointment but it was handled thanks to one of the dental assistants Ryan. Staff is all very friendly and helpful. Location is clean and bright and comfortable. Root canal was easy, painless and well done. Plus Getting the Crown as I waited was so awesome and convenient. The office of Richard J. Gill, DDS, pressured me into a full mouth of x-rays in order to get a cap on 1 tooth. I had XRays and CT scan from my endodontist just days prior which they refused to use, once I arrived at their office. I made them aware that I have a pre-existing medical condition that makes x-rays a medical concern. They manipulated me into getting the full "18" X-rays or waist a week long wait and 40 minute drive to their office. After the visit, they told me I had to sign and commit to doing 2 pages of extra work right then and there... including $7500 for Invisalign! I told them I needed to review the paperwork before I committed to anything extra. They were aware that I needed a rush job on my cap because my temporary and that was the reason why I was in their office. Two days later, (today) I called to confirm they had sent off the approval for my cap. Office manager Nova said they had not sent my cap off for approval, that I had to approve all of the xtra work at the same time! I said what?! There's no way. She said, that's insurance company policies. I said, that's bullshit... (There's no way I have to commit to doing all that work to get my cap!) Then "Nova" plays "victim" after I said it was "BS" that my insurance equires I have all the work done, in order to get my cap. When I refused to approve the other treatments and insisted that she only get approval for my cap, she said she will send my x-rays to me and I can find another office. I called my insurance and they stated to me, her assertion is not true. The office of Richard J. Gill, DDS pressured me into have extra work done and withheld an emergency treatment to blackmail and leverage me into accepting thousands of dollars including $7500 for Invisalign. I believe Richard J. Gill, DDS is running an insurance scam. Dentists like this, running a bullying blackmail scheme, increases costs for all Californians. I will be filing a complaint with The California Dental Board and speaking with an attorney about Breach of contract and medical malpractice. read more

Unfortunately, had extremely bad experience with this dental office. I went in with absolutely no pain and I leave their office under pain and discomfort. They took x-rays. They took a CAT scan of my mouth. They did work left me unfinished with a temporary filling. Extremely unfortunate because I went in there with teeth that actually needed work done and I leave with work done on teeth that weren't so necessary at that time. I'm not sure if they treat other patients differently or how it goes but it sure felt like i was getting some second hand treatment. They were adamant on extracting my teeth quoting me for $6000 trying to get me to fall under the assumption that there is no way of saving those teeth. They just seemed very suspicious and dishonest so I got a second opinion and i received a whole different version. It felt black-and-white with the news that I received. It was obvious they we're trying to get a nice check and trying to take advantage of my situation. I will be reporting this to the dental board of california. Dr Gill is the worst dentist that my husband and I have ever been to. He filled three of my teeth painfully, charging me for crowns, and all of these teeth had to have root canals and new crowns put on costing additional money Another dentist showed me the xrays revealing all Dr Gill did previously on my teeth. and fixed the problems. Dr. Gill's office did not show us the xrays! He showed no concern for my pain and agony . In the cubicles next to me a young woman said that the crown hurt that he had previously done and he dismissed her comments. An older woman sadly saying how much her dentures hurt and he said he would give her a free sample of something and she sounded unhappy. at that. When you hurt they dismiss it and walk away telling you to have a deep cleaning. I was told that the dentist did nothing wrong and that the deep cleaning brings out previous dental issues that you had before you saw him .My previous dentist before I moved showed none of this.. This is the first negative review I have ever written. Too many other issues in this office to elaborate. Horrible pain that cost a lot of money. I am the husband, who had an appointment the same day. Although having a full dental checkup and xrays less than six months previously, showing no cavities and a clean bill of oral health, Dr Gill miraculously found six cavities but only drilled four teeth. Some of the pain that I experienced was due to Dr Gill leaning against the glasses that they provided during the procedure. We are so grateful for our new dental office, where they are skillful, empathetic and professional. read more

My review from Dec 7, 2021 has disappeared, so I'm posting it again. I rarely post reviews, but felt I needed to let others know what I experienced at Encinitas Dental Wellness. Here goes... So, even after reading the poor reviews, I decided to give this place a try because it was close to my home. Wrong decision. The exact same thing happened to me that has happened to others who reviewed this dental offie. As a new patient, they took a full set of X-rays, photos of my teeth, then Dr. Gill came in to exam my teeth. The next day i came in for my teeth cleaning. I was satisfied so far with how things were going. Then after my teeth cleaning was finished, I was ready to schedule my next teeth cleaning and that is when the visit deteriorated. The office insisted that the only teeth cleaning that I could schedule was for periodontal cleaning, at a cost of $560 out of pocket. That was the cost to me even with insurance. They said that the cleaning that I received today was 'Phase 1', a superficial cleaning and that I needed to schedule a periodontal cleaning. When I said that all I wanted was regular teeth cleaning and that I've never been told by my previous dentists that I needed anything else, they refused to schedule me. Also, the office recommended a couple of fillings, and I agreed to do that and was ready to schedule that, but after I refused to schedule periodontal cleaning, they refused to schedule me for the fillings. I was speechless and left their office utterly astounded by the lack of professionalism at this dental office. read more

RUN, don't walk away from this practice! This dentist is the biggest fraud out there! I went to him as he is in my network of DentiCal providers. He "found" numerous cavities and approximately $2000 worth of dental work. The office also informed me that DentiCal only covers certain procedures and the rest must be paid out of pocket. TOTAL LIE. DentiCal covers ALL the cost of any necessary procedure (as told to me by my current legitimate dentist). Thankfully, I had the sense to take all of the information over to my friend who is my dentist (who I see every six months for a cleaning and exam, and have been for 15 years); and he confirmed I needed NONE of the work Dr. Gill and his team of fraudsters stated that I needed. Thank God I have a dentist that I trust to get a second opinion from (the only reason I use my DentiCal is for a second cleaning and exam within the year, and for emergencies). I hope the dental board fines Dr. Gill and takes his license, this guy should not be allowed to steal from people and dental insurance companies they way that he does (and damage people's teeth in the process). He is a shame to the entire dental industry! If you are told you need any work by this crook, get a second opinion, even if you have to pay out of pocket. This was my first visit to Dr. Gill's office and it was a delightful experience (can't say that about many dentists). I personally have had a lot of work done on my teeth over the years (oral surgeries, orthodontics, dentists) and Dr. Gill and his hygienist Grant made me feel very comfortable. I came in for a cleaning, and Grant gave me the best teeth cleaning I've ever had! No pain, and my teeth were as clean as could be! Amazing! Best dentist experience My experience with this dentist office was truly something I am deeply great full for, First! I was having a unexpected problem like some of us do from time to time and out of no where i was hit with a very painful bad tooth problem that was starting infection and spreading fast. And my reg. Dentist office was close over the weekend and only gave me pain killers to deal with the pain and pretty much out to hang! I was in a bad spot! A friend reached out and passed on this office information to me, told me just call and they have an emergency line and will they will call you back! Within 15 mins they called heard what was going on and made an appointment to see me the next day. Now keep in mind i live in los Alamitos south Los Angeles area and this was a drive for me about a 1 hour 45 min drive so this was a big leap of faith on my part to just hop in the car and head down south. During my 1st visit: When i showed up they had filling out the paper work they began to go to work for me taking X-ray and pin pointing what was happening with my mouth they also understood right away the pain that was involved and made me feel at ease, within the hour they had me with antibiotics ready for pick up and appointment with a oral surgeon Again amazing recommendation, but the min i showed up they took control and gave me peace of mind. Check up and cleaning: After my surgery i had four wisdom teeth pulled and a broken tooth that one of the wisdom teeth was pressing up against and broke with the assist of my bit and a bad crown job done by my old dentist office. Needles to say the surgery went well. The dentist wellness group call me back for a check up on how i was doing and also when i had a concern with my mouth during the painful rehab they answered my calls with little to no delay. After the appropriate time passed they wanted to see me and do a checkup and cleaning so again made the trip down being impressed with everything so far. When i arrived they starting on the cleaning of the teeth, from the start they asked do i have any concerns with my mouth and then pointed out why my concerns and what they found connected them and made a lot of sense making me feel super involved and more educated in taking care of the at home remedies for my mouth. The cleaning was involved and they broke it down in steps on how there treating my mouth, i definitely felt takin care of and will never go anywhere else. Thank you so much! Hands down one of the most friendliest, kindest group of Dental professionals I have ever encountered. I recently moved from the Northeast so I needed to get many new Medical professionals. Within the Dental arena, I feel like I scored a homerun! Grant, the Hygienist, has been very thorough and gentle in the 3, 4 times i have been in to clean my teeth. This dentist is a real crook. I went in for a 30 minute in and out re-cement of my crown. it took over two and a half hours to do a complete study and a $10,000 proposal. This doctor is a perfect reason why the State licensing authority should remove this Dentist. The dentist refusef to use permanent cementing material and only offered me temporary cement so he was being very cute thinking that I would come back to him once it falls off again. But I would never go back to this crook.. the crown was in perfect condition and the underlying two structure was also in perfect condition. He tried to upsell me on a brand new crown which is unnecessary. This crown lasted eight plus years and is made of cubic zirconia which is indestructible. Please all stay away from this Encinitas crook, sham, and con artist of a dentist. The dentist also claims that he cannot get reimbursed for using permanent cement on a crown from insurance. This is the most laughable thing I've ever heard. They only use temporary cement and that's what insurance pays for. This dentist and his staff think that the patients don't know better until he ran into me. Look out for this crazy guy and stay away from this office read more

Be weary of this shady dental practice. This place is a business, first and foremost. Should you choose to go here, know exactly what you need, don't let them tell you. They have no qualms about drilling your teeth full of holes in an effort to drum up business, and it will be your problem, they are just offering a service. If you are on medi-cal they will charge the absolute maximum allowed annually, and then find holes that aren't cavities, that aren't covered, and it's your problem out of pocket. I have never felt so disregarded and small. Dr. Gill said that he will not talk to me unless I first authorize him to do the full scale of X-rays, pictures, etc. I explained to him that I emailed his office the current X rays and am reluctant to do more unless absolutely necessary on a few teeth here and there if need be. I shared with him that I was a cancer survivor, and my oncologist didn't allow me frequent X-rays. Dr. Gill did not seem to even listen or hear me. He ordered his assistant to do the full range of X rays, etc. For the next hour and a half (!!) his assistant was taking X-rays, pictures, etc. Once he finished, Dr. Gill said to his staff member that he does not have time to discuss anything. He wants to go to lunch. I offered to wait for him as long as needed so that he could eat. But he refused to talk to me anyway because he had another patient after lunch. I was in disbelief! I asked if he heard me when I said I was uncomfortable with X rays taken again and did not authorize it. But if he did it anyway, he promised to consult me and give me a quote. He seemed to neither listen nor hear me. He passed by and left for lunch without even looking at me... He never consulted me that day or later. He just used me to make as much monies as he possibly could from my insurance for X rays his technician took. I will be sending a formal complaint to the American Dental Association as well as my insurance company. The " doctors" like Richard Gill should not be allowed to take advantage of unsuspecting patients and see them as personal monetary enrichment. He does not have a place near great doctors who CARE about patients instead of using them as ATM machines. Shame on you, Richard Gill ! read more

Greedy butcher. Had been recommended by someone when we just moved here two years ago. I had a great dentist for 20 years and full of a sudden at my first visit he found so many things wrong with my teeth and wanted to do them right there and then, as if he knew, if he didn't hurry up fast enough I would leave. Must have needed a new car at that point, I guess.He screwed up on one of my crowns, still dealing with consequences, took out the other one, saying that it's bad and I need an implant, sent me to expensive x-rays and never got back to me, after saying he'd get back to me in a week. Dr Gill is very calming and friendly, the hygienist was very gentle/informative and they have a lot of new technology and cameras that take pictures of your teeth so that they can show you your cavities before they fill them! I have been going to Richard Gill for over a year, and I had to cancel an appointment at the last moment cause of a family matter that I had to fly out if town. They discharged me as a patient and did not even give me a warning. They did not even complete my dental work and abandoned as a patient. This is not a good practice for any dentist to take care of his patients in this manner. I will be sending a formal complaint to the American dental association as well as my insurance company. He was in need of root canals, fillings and needed a bridge. He was afraid the bridge would look fake and people would notice. What a pleasant experience: even for a dentist appointment. My mouth never felt so clean and the technology they used to find my cavities was advanced and painless!
