Very good ice cream, very good serving sizes. The people who work there are very friendly and because they offer so many unique flavors they give free samples! I was even able to sample a topping (marshmallow sauce) which i hadn't ever heard of before and it was really good so of course i put it on my ice cream. I got the black cherry vanilla and razzmanian devil in a small with marshmallow sauce and waffle pieces (broken pieces of waffle cone). The flavors were great and the size was more than enough. Only drawback is its outdoor seating only so I personally wouldn't visit on a rainy day but a nice day like today it was the perfect treat. read more

We drive by Rich Farm in Middlefield often--a small, outdoor ice cream stand with picnic tables. We have had visited the OG in Oxford and grateful that this little stand is much closer to home. If you haven't had Rich Farm ice cream before, it debated to be one of the best Connecticut-made ice cream. They have classics flavors, seasonal flavors, and small batch special flavors. The ice cream is thick, flavorful, and generous amount of cookies and candies throughout. During this ice cream pit-stop, I got one of the fall flavors, Apple Spice in a waffle cone. I'm used to getting small scoops at other ice cream places, figured a double-scoop (large) would be a good size. Wow, I got so much ice cream and glad the staff gave me a cup, predicting that I would need it. I was only able to eat have of my cone. The Apple Spice ice cream was delicious. It had bits of baked apple pieces and cinnamon throughout. My husband got Cookies n' Cream single-scoop (small) in a wafer cone. Again, the scoop was huge! There were plenty of picnic tables, but we enjoyed the ice cream in our car. It was a gorgeous day and they weren't that busy with a steady flow of customers. We will definitely stop by Rich Farm Ice Cream again. read more

Rich Farm is one of the best ice cream makers in CT. I had been driving to Oxford whenever I wanted some. Turns out they opened a spot in Middlefield just 20 minutes away. When I visited, they had one of my fav flavors of the year -- German Chocolate Brownie. So rich and smooth. I also got Buttercrunch which was tasty. According to their sign, they have been open for one year... people, let's get out there and get some ice cream! Keep them open! I was driving back from lunch in Oakdale (see previous review) when I got a hankerin' for a shake. A quick check of nearby ice cream establishments led me here. I am so glad it did. I got a raspberry shake that came out perfect. Thick and flavorful without being overpowering (some places over-syrup their shakes). The price is comparable or even a little cheaper than others. So, my wife and I have visited this ice cream place numerous times. The flavors they offer are over the top! Not just for the little ones, and much more than Choc, Straw, and Vanilla. I personally LOVE LOVE LOVE the rum raisin. It's the BEST. I could eat it EVERY day!! My wife loves the pistachio! I didn't realize it was opened in the winter. Well try it again soon! It's great to have a Rich Farm open close by. The ice cream tastes identical to the original Oxford location. The line can get long especially on warmer weather days and weekends, and moves pretty slowly. Price is good for the amount of ice cream you get. read more

Even though it was cold and dreary it was worth it, they give big scoops and the cones were fresh. My raspberry/vanilla with chocolate chunks (the name of the flavor escapes me) was delicious. Service with a smile! Banana split! We wanted to know what the buzz was about so we had to go check out Rich's. Driving up to the property, It was nice to see the long line of families enjoying the day with many sitting at the picnic tables situated on the lawn to accommodate the indulgers. However, when it was our turn to order, it was sad to see so many of the ice cream choices "sold out". I guess they underestimated the big turnout - good for Rich's!! I can't wait to really try our favorite flavors. We had chocolate chip, strawberry and coffee scoops in our banana split . Of the three flavors the coffee was the best - deep coffee flavor that is often missing at other ice cream shops. It really was a treat and we plan on returning to try our usuals. I always wanted to try the Oxford location so I was very thrilled they opened this one two minutes from me. Delicious ice cream, very friendly staff, take debit cards. Two suggestions to make it better. Allow customers to tip on the debit card slip so the kids can get more tips. And please in the summer time, put torches or something outside to deter mosquitoes. I got eaten alive the other night, but it's too good to get out of line. Fix the mosquito issue and this is a 5 star. read more
