Al's Ice Cream Shoppe is an off shoot of NoRa Cupcake next door making premium ice cream with some classic and fun flavor combinations. It's a great addition to the Middletown dining scene and when I visited on a recent Tuesday they had a steady stream of customers. They have some of their cupcake flavors that they have turned into ice cream flavors (think Irish Car Bomb and Fat Elvis) and some fun seasonal flavors (I tried Lemon Blueberry Crumble the day I visited). My only gripe as Dawn O also highlighted in her review is that the ice cream was a bit melty when it was scooped which meant fast eating once it was in hand. Not sure if that is a common occurrence but be aware if you visit on a hot day.

As a mom, a new ice cream place is always welcome in town. From the minute we heard the news of a new shop, we had been keeping our eyes open for an opening day. I'm pretty sure we made it or we were darn close. Al's is definitely a place that is being added to our rotation. Located next door to Nora's on Main Street in Middletown, we parked behind Eli's. Unfortunately, there were no spots near the shop. We were early enough in the day that my son and I were the only two in the shop. My husband had stayed home not knowing if they would have a dairy free or vegan option for him. We were happy to see all of the flavor options, but also a few vegan too. My son got the basic chocolate in a cone with the addition of gummy bears. I opted for a kiddie cup of strawberry fluff. We both agreed both were very good. The staff was knowledgeable about their product and friendly. While we were waiting to get our order another couple came in. While they were ordering, more people walked through the door.It started to get a little crowded, but unfortunately there is no seating offered inside or outside. There was an old built-in in the window, so we had made ourselves makeshift seats. While the space offers high airy ceilings and bright cheerful decor, the seating situation is not very welcoming. We'll be visiting again soon, in hopes that a few seats have been added.

When my friend told me Nora's Cupcakes opened an ice cream shop, we knew we had to go. We went on a Saturday night after dinner, and upon entry we were greeted by a very friendly staff member. The menu offered unique flavors not typically found at other ice cream shops. I ended up ordering one scoop of the Carrot Cake and one scoop of the Pumpkin Cheesecake with rainbow sprinkles. The flavors were spot on - I loved the carrot cake pieces, cream cheese flavor and the creaminess of the ice cream. I just learned AL's Ice Cream Shoppe is closed for Winter, so I can't wait to see what new flavors they have come Spring!

Have been eagerly awaiting for Al's to open! From the folks that brought you NoRA Cupcakes, we knew this ice cream was gonna hit! And they didn't disappoint. We went opening weekend so there were definitely some kinks to be worked out, of course, but this is gonna be such a hot spot in Middletown! Pretty tight inside when they're busy with very minimal seating. They have so many unique flavors and menu items to choose from. Our favorites were the Strawberry Fluff, Lemon Blueberry Crumble and Raspberry Pound Cake. Also loved the Fluffernutter that had a PB base! We need to get back to try some of their unique sundae offerings and their Perkatory Coffee Float! Love that they're partnering with other local Middletown staples with some of their menu items!

Al's is the best ice cream on Main Street. Portions are generous and price is great. They're very creamy whether you get the traditional or the vegan coconut base. The staff are extremely friendly and happy to let you sample. The store is cute and welcoming. You can order anything from the ice cream menu or the cupcake menu from sister store NoRa's. My only complaint is that some of the flavors can be a little one note. For example the carrot cake is delicious but can be dominated by the cream cheese or the Irish car bomb is very chocolate forward. But that hasn't stopped me from going twice in a week!

What fun, absolutely fabulous ice cream! I visited AL's with three others today (including one hungry eight year old). Everyone loved what they got. I had a scoop of salted caramel brownie and one of chocolate cherry cheesecake in a freshly made waffle cone. YES to chunks of real cheesecake (graham cracker crust and all) in my ice cream. My sister went for a scoop of the carrot cake and one of the fluffernutter blondie -- both were great but the carrot cake in particular was really special. The eight year old gave a big thumbs up to the cotton candy ice cream. Everything was so fresh and delicious. Many of the ice creams have yummy chunks of cake, brownies, and other goodies in them. (The companion business, Nora's Cupcakes, is just next door and supplies these.) Bonus: the staff were so delightful and parking was easy on a hot Sunday afternoon. Several spots immediately in front of the shop were open.

So since we had Friday off with the kids, we decided to do lunch at Eli Cannon's and then we crossed the street to try Al's ice cream. They rotate their flavors and they have some staples. We had the strawberry fluff which was a strawberry ice cream with a fluff swirl. We had the chocolate ice cream self-explanatory. We had the bourbon apple crumble bourbon ice cream with apple chunks and crumble pieces. We had the fluffanutter which had marshmallows swirl, peanut butter,l ice cream, and blondie chunks. And then we also tried the pistachio and the ginger matcha pear. Our favorites were the strawberry fluff and the ginger matcha pear. My only complaint was it wasn't a hot day and the chocolate ice cream was pretty much already melted once we walked out the door and that was the flavor in my littlest chose so she was wearing it as well as eating it. They make their ice cream from scratch and have a lot of imagination with their flavor offerings. And if you're in Middletown, I think You should stop by and give him a try.

Mint chip and cookie dough ice cream with whipped cream

I visited Al's after having an early dinner over at Harrie's Jailhouse, and, omg, the whipped cream was THE BEST. The ice cream was delicious as well (lol)! I ordered their mint chip ice cream and cookie dough. The ice cream was very creamy . The staff was friendly and super helpful when we asked about flavors. I can't wait to go back!

Had seen the bright orange colors from the street and heard about the process of Nitro ice cream…read morebut I finally had the opportunity to stop in. Well...Not sure why I waited so long. Probably one of the coolest ice cream experiences that I've had. For those who don't know, Nitro Cream & Crumbz makes there ice cream for you on the spot using Liquid Nitrogen blenders. It essentially freezes the mix on the spot. A cool process that yields much creamier ice cream (that I read and in person confirmed). This isn't just your typical ice cream scoop and plop experience. During the experience, cool smoke from the liquid nitrogen fills the area as they stir your selected ice cream flavor. The process of the employees adding the ingredients is done all within your line of sight for a full investment into your delicious treat. The flavors are FUN and the end result is visually appealing to eat. I myself got the HOLY CANNOLI which had Riccota vanilla ice cream, crushed cannoli shell, dark chocolate and white chocolate chips wrapped in a spongy bubble waffle. It was delicious and creamy (as you hope from doing your homework on Liquid Nitrogen ice cream ). The staff were extremely friendly, bubbly even and helped explain popular options for a first time Nitro ice cream eater. Best part of this whole thing is having so many other great flavors left to try on my next trip. Highly recommend and prices are VERY reasonable (some might argue a little low for the experience you get).

We fell off the nitro ice cream kick for a while, but this spot just restored our love for it!…read moreGreat quality for both the ice cream itself and the bubble waffle cones. They had creative choices on the menu with plenty of toppings, and the cookies were fantastic too. Such a great treat while we were in Middletown, and we look forward to coming back!

Floral teas, handmade sweets & dairy-free heaven…read more Came here originally just for a bubble tea... and ended up discovering a whole hidden gem. First thing I noticed was their sign saying most of the sweets are handmade, customized, and one-of-a-kind and you can really tell. Everything feels unique, not your typical copy-and-paste dessert spot. Let's get into the drinks because that's what brought me in I tried the Singapore rose with kiwi boba super delicate, floral, and lightly sweet. It's one of those drinks that feels refreshing but still has flavor. The kiwi boba gave it that little pop of tangy kick that made it even better. I also tried the dragon fruit tea with passionfruit boba; this one was giving tropical vibes all the way Light, slightly sweet, and really smooth. The passionfruit boba actually enhanced the tea instead of overpowering it, which I loved. And can we talk about the options here?! Dairy-free ice cream (huge plus if you're sensitive like me) Thai ice cream Kunafa nest treats (yes... they looked as good as they sound ) This is definitely the kind of place where you come for one thing and end up planning your next visit before you even leave. Final thoughts: If you like trying new flavors, floral teas, or just want something different from your usual bubble tea spot. This place is worth it. Unique menu, handcrafted sweets, and drinks that actually taste intentional.

I was in the mood for boba so I thought I'd give 0° a try. Ordered Matcha with tapioca pearls…read more There was one worker who was on the phone so I looked around. Shop is cute but customer service, quality and prices are ridiculous. I was there for at least 15 minutes for 1 drink and paid about $10. After about 5 minutes of me having placed my order, the worker walked by me with a cooler and said he'd be right back as he needed ice. And he left. Once he got back, it was another 5 minutes to finish the drink. Usually a matcha with boba is green, this definitely was tan and looked like a milk tea. Will not go back.
