My friend and I came into town to visit the city, and we stumbled upon this little gem for dinner. I JUST WANT TO SAY: THIS PLACE IS YUM!! I got the special bacon kimchi fried rice which is literally just all of the greatest ingredients in the world thrown into one dish. My friend got a bibimbap which I had a taste of and it was also delicious!! So delicious that I may have to get it next time :) What truly set this place apart was the atmosphere. It's not "luxury" by any means, but you get the down-to-earth good vibes that only come from visiting a mom and pop shop that is trying everything to make good food at fair prices. The owners came out to greet us and they're wonderful! Thanks for the delicious food!! This is definitely a must if you're in the area! read more

Our trip to Rice'N Bread was everything I could have hoped for in a visit to a 4 star rated restaurant. The food was amazing, and our waitress was exactly what extremely informative and engaging. Upon arrival, I was a little surprised that the restaurant wasn't very crowded on a Saturday night, but during our meal, I realized that they do most of their business through carry out and delivery. I'll definitely be partaking in that in the future. I ordered the popular Galbi burger and it truly was delicious. The Korean style seasoning in the burger's ground pork and beef were like nothing I've ever had before. My partner had the chicken egg foo young, and it, too, was delicious. One of the surprise winners at this place is the home made Chili powder. We put it on everything, and in the short time we were there it became addicting. We will definitely be going back to this place! read more

This place was amazing. A little expensive but very delicious food. Best korean food i have had since i left korea. read more

Rice'N Bread - I got the beef bulgogi - Korean Near Me - Chicago, Illinois

This is one of the many hole in the walls in Wrigley. If you are not looking for it, you may not see it. It looks a little dirty but I know it's not. The wait staff is nice, and you can meet all of them by going to the bathroom... in the kitchen. My large group was comfortably seated. I ordered the bimpimbop. It was pretty good but I saw other things I would have preferred. It's BYOB read more

Haven't had the chance to dine in yet but ordered delivery via GrubHub early Monday evening. Food came pretty fast, in about a half hour. I got the Pa-Jeon (seafood pancake), Akutagawa with rye toast and white rice and gravy, and Spicy YetCaMein (seafood noodle soup). The pancake was filled with seafood pieces and scallions. Although it needed more batter, it was still yummy. The homemade gravy was delish and the mixture of all the veggies and beef was just comforting. I loved the spicy noodle soup. The spice was actually spicy and sooo satisfying. The noodles were perfectly cooked. Everything just worked very well together, including the seafood and veggies. Great bang for your buck, as portions are very satisfying and prices are definitely affordable. Although it's not a full on traditional Korean restaurant, I can still get authentic Korean flavors without having to go super north in the city. I actually love the concept and the fusion with American diner food really works here. read more

I wanted to try this place for a while now, and so glad I did! Met a friend here for brunch on Sunday and was seated right away. I got the spicy chicken (buldak) with rice, and he got the kalbi burger which came with fries. The spicy chicken with rice was crunchy, flavorful and not too heavy. Portions are also pretty big, so I ended up boxing up half my meal to bring home. If you prefer milder chicken, I believe there is a non-spicy alternative, or I would just ask them to make it mild. Glad I tried out this place and will be back! Authentic korean food for a reasonable price. read more

They have burgers and eggs and sandwiches, but I've never had them. I just come for the tasty Korean food. I love going to Crisp but this place has noodle soups and is a lot closer to me. Byob! The only problem is the name. Whenever I tell people about this place, they always complain about the bland, unappetizing name. Whatever, a rose by any other name... read more

The food was excellent, and the service was fantastic. Despite almost every table being occupied and there being only 1 server, we never felt like we weren't a priority. read more

I should have wrote this review right after I ate here and was really full, because now looking at the menu and photos on a Thursday night at midnight is making me crave some Rice'N Bread big time. I order the rice bowl special featuring rice, veggies, japchae, dumplings, and a meat (chicken, pork, beef, tofu). I opted for the beef and time stood still as I ignored all stimuli around me to devour this delicious bowl. The feeling of well-being that consumed me...well you get the idea. Seriously, for about $8-9 this is an outstanding deal. My friend ordered the kalbi burger, which I tried, also great. read more

I've ordered take out from here a few times and I've never been disappointed. I have never been inside the actual location, so I can't speak to that. I don't eat meat, and finding good vegetarian options is always a challenge for me. I still want something delicious and bad for me...just without meat. They have these potato pancakes that are covered in gravy and scallions which was really good. The gravy is vegetarian, but still very thick and delicious. I've also had the terryaki fried rice and tofu, which was also very good. Their menu is a little schizophrenic and all over the place. They do have a lot of Korean dishes, but they also have omelets, BLTs, hamburgers and fries. Overall this place is great and I'll be a regular take out or delivery customer. read more

Wow! This food was delivered right on time and it was delish! Great price point too. Probably some of the best Korean food my husband and I have had in the city. Can't wait to go in person/order it again. read more

I work right above Rice 'N' Bread, and it is my go-to lunch spot on most days I don't BMOL. The decor is nothing to sneeze at (think clean, modern diner), but the food is very delicious, and this is coming from a former denizen of LA's Koreatown. At this point, I've tried nearly everything on the menu, and there are a few items that stand out: Traditional Pork or Spicy Seafood Yet Ca Mein - Either one is rich and flavorful. I tend to the pork on cold winter days as the broth is so rich and warming. The spicy seafood is not lying about its piquant. It'll take your breath away. Bul Dak - spicy fried chicken with a Korean zest. It comes with a yogurt dipping sauce that provides a firm counterpoint to the chili and quells the heat. Galbi Burger - Mixture of beef and pork, which keeps it juicy. It may be the best burger I've ever had for less than six dollars. I worry about ethnic restaurants in the Wrigleyville neighborhood because of all the meatheads, but don't let the names dissuade you. Do you like broth? Do you like fried chicken? Do you like burgers? Then come here. read more

I love the place. I really only get one thing here, the bibimbap. Great food and if they're not busy, you can sit and read in peace for a while. I'd love it a bit more if there were some bamchan either thrown in or available for a small upcharge. read more

I absolutely love this place it's my new favorite by me :) everyone is sweet and the food tastes amazing every single time

Ordered carry out as my first experience. Fast delivery. Beef bulgogi, teriyaki chicken bibimbop and DanDak. And the eggrolls were the perfect flavor with just the right amount of greasy goodness. Hot and delicious food. PLUS, a complimentary side of freshly made chapchae noodles that they just wanted to share with me. Amazing! read more

I live in WashDC now, but eat at Rice 'n Bread when I come back for the summer and the end-of-year holidays. This is a great place to grab a bite to eat before or after a Cubs game. My nephew and I ate here the night the Cubs won their first World Series game at Wrigley Field in 2016, so it's a lucky place too!!! Love their bacon and kimchee fried rice, the Korean chicken and rice, and the Akutagawa. And the service is always friendly and accommodating. This last dish was named after one of the restaurant's customers from the 1960s, who used to order this special combination of scrambled eggs, ground hamburger, onions, and bean sprouts with rice -- gravy and soy sauce optional -- for breakfast every morning. My Dad used to own the restaurant back in the days when it was known as the Hamburger King. We were of Japanese-American descent, so you could order everything with rice! Meat loaf and rice, pork chop and rice, eggs/salami/rice, etc. Oh yeah, there were great hamburgers and fries too! read more

Great food and service. Close to Wrigley. Perfect for some pre-game food. Service was great also.

Amazing food, super nice staff, and the perfect little place to grab a bite. 10/10 would recommend to anyone looking for some Korean deliciousness!! We happened to be their last dine in customer of the night and they never made us feel rushed or that we were an inconvenience. Our food was made to order and tasted fantastic. Even the check at the end of the night blew us away, it was so affordable for such great quality! read more

Perfect place for Korean! I got the spicy Bul Dak Fried Chicken, crispy Tofu, Pa-jeon. All amazing!! So glad I found this place.

So i happen to be randomly walking past this establishment and it caught my eye, a korean american diner? huh? well lets stop in and check out this menu! Their super casual diner space offers basic american breakfast items like eggs toast bacon etc to korean rice bowls and noodles. I decided to take out their Bulgogi rice bowl which at $11 was a substantial amount of food, both rice and korean thin sliced marinated beef which had a very addictive and balanced sweet, salty, mild garlic/onion flavor. When i got home i ripped open the carry out container and devoured what was inside until i was in a food coma. Next time I'm curious to try their spicy chicken bulgogi...will let you know how it is when i do read more

My friend and I ordered the Ddok-bok-ki, Bulgogi beef and Bul Dak fried chicken. Soooo good and cheap! I'm happy to report that we have a legit contender to Crisp (another Korean fried chicken joint in Chicago). I actually think Rice'N Bread is better (although nothing can quite compare to Bonchon in NYC, ahhh... but I'll settle :) ). Great service by the lady too who helped us with recommendations. Would definitely visit again and try other items on the menu. read more

This place was so delicious and affordable. The workers are amazing I would recommend this place to anyone. Will come again

I started going to this place when it was still Hamburger King. A friend swore that there was awesome Korean food if I just trusted her. She was right! I love their BiBimBop. The korean fried chicken is also super great: sweet, salty and fried. They balance it with steamed veggies and rice to make a nice pair. If you're not feeling like asian food, they also have the diner staples: burgers, fries, breakfast, etc. This place quickly became a routine before work in the same building. The owners are super nice. The food is fresh, quick and tasty. The diner is cozy and clean. read more

This shop is pretty inconspicuous but all of the high reviews from Yelp lead me here on a Saturday evening. We ended up ordering four of the most popular dishes: Pa-Jeon: very flavorful and had crispy bits all around, excellent start to the meal! DukBokki: chewy and the sauce tasted authentic. Only order if you can handle spice BiBimBop: the way we ordered it, it didn't come in the traditional stone bowl so we didn't get that crispy rice at the bottom which makes this dish usually so spectacular. The meat was well seasoned and the veggies were warm. Dulbak (fried chicken): This dish is what downgraded this review from 4 stars to 3. This "spicy" chicken came with unseasoned, steamed carrots/broccoli and plain rice. While the chicken was somewhat juicy, the appearance and overall taste were quite bland. Why serve steamed, unseasoned veggies at all?! It makes no sense! I did see a disappointing amount of food being heated up in two microwaves which is always alarming IMO! The service was very attentive and our waters were constantly refilled. Come here if you have had limited exposure to Korean food. The breakfast might be legit, I don't think I'm coming back to find out. read more

Can't believe this place doesn't have more reviews. I've been here a few times. I love the bulgogi beef. its the specialty... basically a Korean stir fry. Its kind of strange how they have some traditional diner food, then a section with Asian dishes, but everything I've had is good, so I'll definitely be back. Just wish they were open later. read more

Rice'N Bread's kimchee fried rice found a permanent place in my heart. I notably can't speak much to the other food items on their menu since I literally got the fried rice every single time. The staff's also pretty great. They're really friendly and have occasionally given me free sides of their homemade kimchee. If you're ordering take-out, they'll seat you, give you some water, and strike up casual conversation while you wait if they aren't too busy. Love this place! read more

(EDIT2: Upping from 2 stars to 3, since it mainly sounds like the delivery service's fault. The owner is actually very nice and called me to explain that the delivery service they contract out to (Reyes Food Delivery) picked up our food at 9:25 PM. He gave me their contact information and I tried to reach out and complain but they weren't picking up and their voice mailbox is full. If I could find them on Yelp, I'd leave them a scathing review. I'd strongly consider using a different delivery service since it makes such a big impression on your customers when the deliveries aren't on time.) (EDIT: Upping from 1 star to 2 because the food was pretty good, but I still think the delivery/management failed. Food ended up showing up 40 minutes later than they originally said it would. Delivery guy (from a private company) said he received the order around 10:15-10:20 PM, so either my order was forgotten and they made it after I called, or they were just really behind and didn't bother to update me. Either way, this was a horrible experience.) Can't rate the food cause we NEVER GOT IT, but right now their delivery service is AWFUL in my book. We ordered our food just after 9 PM from their website. The estimated delivery was 35-50 minutes, but after 10 PM we still hadn't received it. We called but the restaurant was closed, even though the order was confirmed via email and text. Now I'm hangry and many other places are now also closed so it's too late to order from somewhere else. GFG. read more

Interesting delivery experience. The woman on the phone actually asked me "why do you want teriyaki chicken and rice" to which I replied "my girlfriend is hungry." After receiving the teriyaki I wondered the same thing... It was a sad dish. After 5:20 on the phone I successfully ordered teriyaki chicken and bulgogi (which can apparently can be chicken as well...). Delivery arrives via a middle aged white woman with two kids in tow... Which is fine just unexpected. All in all the food was fine, I would return for the bulgogi! read more

This place is as good as it gets! I have eaten in the restaurant and had it delivered. The delivery order came before the estimated time, which is always a plus. I had the bimbimbap for brunch and I wouldnt change a thing about it. I've also tried the don galbi which has a sweeter soy sauce - so delicious! Oh, and did i mention they are BYOB? Next time we order here I've already decided I am getting the burger bc the reviews are great! If you are looking for a new asian place to try, definitely check this place out. read more

Delicious food and friendly waitress. I will be back! The name of the place is slightly confusing, but the food and price made up for it.

Had the chicken over rice bowl and it was delicious! Super sweet waitress, the wait time was short.

This place was highly recommended by a friend of a friend so came here for dinner. Galbi burger is yummy and comes with a load of fries. TV and wifi is available. They have a high counter with stools that people can sit at. Good for solo or group diners. Short walk from Belmont subway station. Staff is friendly and restroom is clean. Ketchup and Tabasco sauce are available. Seating at the tables closer to the kitchen area felt bit warmer than the ones closer to the door, but the door held slightly ajar so a slight cool breeze flowed through the crack. I would come back to try their other foods! read more

I've been here quite a few times because I used to live so close but it's such a neat breakfast place. For starters, you can get awesome Korean dishes for breakfast! The kalbi dish is so delish! Also, I've never heard of anyone doing this before coming here but I'm obsessed with it, rice and gravy for breakfast! It's a must, sooo good and will almost cure any hangover you have! There basically only one server, I'm assuming she's the owner as well, but she's insanely sweet! read more

Stopped in here for a weekend lunch the other day and had a solidly positive experience. This is a "no-frills" experience, but worth a try. We had the bibimbop and the cold noodle dish, bibimkuksu. Both were quite good! I'm really interested to see how the traditional American breakfast is. Kind of an interesting combo. I was hoping to see more Korean-inspired breakfast items though. The menu was clear and had photos for those who are unfamiliar with Korean cuisine. The staff was friendly and attentive. Good experience! read more

I've been searching high and low for some bulgogi. Couldn't make it to h mart and so we settled on this. For bulgogi, ths place has some of the best I've had in lakeview so far(read also as only place I could find). But we left completely satisfied and made bulgogi tacos the next morning with our gigantic box of leftovers Extra points for doing Korean only and not that funky Asian fusion thing. read more

Great customer service. Cute space and homey vibe. Convenient location close to Addison-Red and not much further from Southport-Brown. Pricing was a dollar or more than I would have liked to pay for the food - 8 fried mandoo for $5.95 seemed like a good deal but they were pretty small and quite possibly frozen from a bag. The spicy YetCaMein ($8.95) was as spicy as I had hoped for with sweet little shrimp and tender bits of squid. It didn't seem that salty as I was eating it, but man, was I thirsty afterwards. I would probably go back to give the BulDak people seem to like a try, but only if I already happened to be in the area. read more
