Can't believe I'd never been to Rice until today! The space is compact, like you'd expect for 14th St, but cozy. They were able to seat our party of 7 for lunch without a reservation. Everything we had--spring rolls, edamame, noodles, Thai iced tea--was tasty and fresh. The menu is also clearly marked with the dishes that can be made vegan or are spicy. I recommend the drunken noodles with tofu! The service slowed a bit as they got more crowded but overall were attentive. It's a good spot and the market downstairs is an added bonus! I'd go back.

An adorable local Thai restaurant with a very cool Asian market in the basement. The food at the restaurant is stellar and the staff is lovely! The food comes out fast and the overall place has a very cozy feeling. The sushi is amazing, the Pad Thai is top 5 best in DC for sure, and the Spicy Duck is GREAT! It's a great portion of duck and prepared in a very unique and delicious way! Love coming here!

Passed by this place several times and finally was able to make it for dinner. I have been to the store a few times but never dined at the restaurant. I was shocked to see a lower than aged rating on Yelp. Seems most of the 1,2 and 3 star reviews were from a few years ago. Can't speak to what it was back then but my meal was delicious. I got the red curry noodles with beef and it was fantastic! The dish came with the squid ink noodles, potatoes, vegetables and beef of course. The broth was phenomenal and packed with flavor. We opted to sit outside since it was such a nice day! Service was pretty quick but it did take forever to get the bill. We had to walk inside to ask for the check. I would definitely come again and love they have takeout so I don't have to dine inside if it's busy.

Rice Restaurant is my favorite spot for pad thai + pad see ew. Yesterday I decided to try their sushi, and it did not disappoint. I wish there were a few more pieces, but it's at a great price point. The roll, pad thai, and basil fried rice were so tasty.

One of my favorite Thai food spots in Northwest, and my go-to for takeout. The inside of the restaurant is cute and the outdoor seating along 14th street is great on a nice day. The cocktails were decent, I liked the Passion Cooler. Green Papaya Pad Thai - Go-to dish here. Lighter but just as flavorful as regular pad thai. (5/5) Drunken Squid Ink - So so good. The squid ink spaghetti adds a nice umami flavor to the drunken noodle dish. (5/5) Still good (4/5): Pad Thai, Drunken Noodles, Tom Yum Soup, Traditional Rolls-- consistent but only comes with 6 pieces. Pass (3/5): Pad See Eew, Panang Curry-- they put mixed vegetables including cabbage into their curry which I did not like because it watered down the curry.

Rice was a great dinner spot! Came here with a friend in need of some tasty Thai food and were not disappointed. We sat outside and started our meal off with the Spring Rolls and drinks. The rolls were crispy and had a unique sauce that really livened up the flavors of the appetizer. I got the Matcha Margarita and appreciated its smooth, sweet flavor. All matcha lovers need to give this a try! I then got the Drunken Noodles with chicken for my main. I loved all of the crispy, flavorful vegetables in the dish. Portions were so filling I had a great amount of leftovers for the next day. Not too pricey and tastes great! One downside - I would have liked it to be spicier. Remember to ask them for spice levels before ordering. If you are in need of a new dinner spot, Rice is just the place!

Great happy hour, great nagiri, one of my favorite stops on 14th. Fantastic gift shop and Asian market in the basement level.

This place is fantastic for big parties to visit. The restaurant really takes care of everyone to make people feel truly welcomed. The server was beyond nice even augmenting drinks to specifications enjoyed at the table. Each dish was simple perfection too. This place is a must try.

Tofu Pad Thai with egg, chive, ground peanuts, red bean curd and bean sprouts --- literal YUM! loved how cozy rice restaurant was, no frills, but great food at a neighborhood spot

I have genuinely only ever heard good things about Rice, so it's about time I make an appearance - I absolutely love the idea of a half market - half restaurant. there are shockingly few Asian markets in DC so this place provides for the people!! ofc I didn't even remember to go check the downstairs market out after dinner....an excuse to go back! - I ordered the chicken and Asian pumpkin. never had pumpkin in an Asian style dish and this was fabulous. I can't can't quite describe the sauce, but it was not too gingery or soy sauce heavy, somehow enough flavor to saturate the chicken but allow for the pumpkins flavor to come through - the pumpkin was cooked perfectly to be delicate and soft but still had a break in texture with the skin (even tho it wasn't hard / inedible like squash skin can be) - loved the portion of chicken. rice was overcooked and not the most appealing as you can see - my friend loved her drunken noodle. such a good serving of chicken, soft noodles, and overall delicious - the service left a lot to be desired, I wasn't expecting a casual market based restaurant to have over the top service but the woman made no efforts to be warm! and she took my plate while I was actively still chewing ha!

Great service and atmosphere, food was fresh and delicious. Sushi and brussels spout salad was great

Finally dined in at Rice (rather than takeout) and can't rave enough about how good it is. Waters were refilled very quickly. Service was great but not overbearing. I got the pad Thai with chicken and the portion was insanely huge that I had a huge box for leftovers. The Brussels sprouts appetizer was also insanely good. The vibe is cozy but everyone seemed to be there with a friend catching up. I will definitely make this one of my new casual places to eat in.

Would come back again, food was decent. We got a seafood noodle dish and a curry dish. Both were solid, not amazing, but comforting and I would come back if I craved Thai. They had good service and the ambiance was cozy

Everyone in our group ordered something different, and everything we tried was so good. I got the Thai vermicelli, and it was absolutely delicious! The khao soi had good flavor, and it came with rice. The chicken wings were for my son, he said they were the best wings he's ever had. The beef curry had good flavor, but the beef was a bit overcooked. Service was a little bit of a miss. When the waiter first came, he asked us for our food order. However, we wanted to order drinks first. I was able to order my cocktail, however, the waiter left before anyone else at my table could speak to order a beverage. Food came out very quickly. This is not the type of place where you would want to enjoy drinks and food over a period of time. However, if you are super hungry, your food will definitely get to you quickly. Restaurant was crowded, but not super loud. Overall, I would come back for the food, I just wish that I could have more time to enjoy my restaurant experience.

The dish seriously lacked flavor, and the egg wasn't properly broken up or incorporated into the noodles. Instead, there were basically two large chunks of egg in the dish. I also specifically asked for extra sauce and was willing to pay for it, but they very clearly did not add any extra sauce. I ended up throwing it away after only a few bites. I will say the rocket shrimp rolls were very good, and the sauce that came with them was also really good. They were easily the best part of the meal. That said, Pad See Ew is a pretty standard Thai dish and something most Thai restaurants easily nail, so I was surprised by how disappointing this was. Overall, definitely not a good experience and not somewhere I'd order from again.

Delicious Curry...Just Wish There Was More of It!…read more After a weekend away, I wanted something good, warm, and comforting for dinner, so Thai food immediately came to mind. I've tried quite a few Thai spots around DC, but this was my first time ordering from TipThai. I went with the red curry with chicken, and it was REALLY delicious! The curry was flavorful, rich, and exactly the comfort meal I was looking for. I also love that they let you choose your spice level -- mild, medium, hot, or extra hot. I ordered mine hot, and it was perfect! Definitely had some heat, but not so much that it overpowered the flavor of the curry. My only real complaint was the portion size. The price was comparable to other Thai restaurants in the area, but the amount of food definitely wasn't. The portion was noticeably smaller than pretty much every other red curry I've ordered locally, which was disappointing considering the price. That said, the curry itself tasted so good that I'm definitely interested in trying some of their other menu items. I just worry that the smaller portions may be consistent across the menu. Overall, TipThai nailed the flavor and spice level -- I just need them to be a little more generous with the portions!

Everything we tried was flavorful and well prepared, and I can definitely see why this place gets praise for its Thai food. The only issue was the timing coming out of the kitchen. Our Panang Curries arrived several minutes apart, and we waited more than 15 minutes for the Pad Thais after the first entrees were served. We had to ask our waiter a few times about the rest of the food so we could actually eat together. It wasn't just our table either. I noticed the same thing happening around the restaurant, including a couple on a date where one person had her meal sitting in front of her for about 10 to 15 minutes before the other person's food arrived. Hopefully they can work out the timing because the food itself is worth coming for. Despite the issue, I would definitely give Rimtang another try.
