The place is super small but I didn't wait more than 10 minutes for a table. Sushi is fresh and really good. I didn't particularly like lemon or lime in Southerner roll but it might be just me. Service is also right when you need it. Will try again next time I am in Durango. Thanks. read more

Rice Monkeys is located off of Main Street. You walk in and there is a very very small restaurant in front of you. About three tables and a bar area where customers can sit and eat. The cooks and register and everything is right there for you to see. I've come here several times when I come to town and I am always pleased with what I am given. I played it safe and got the shrimp tempura to start. I've also tried to red Phoenix and funky monkey, both are impressive. Recently, I've also tried the crunch mango roll and found out that they can make my favorite, a fried philly roll. I was pleased to see that they could accommodate my requests. I wouldn't let it's small size fool you into not eating here because it's worth squeezing in. I would definitely not recommend it if you are looking for a lunch spot for more than three people as there is just not enough space and it gets busy during the the weekday rush times. But take it out and go sit somewhere nice to eat if you have a bigger group, because the food is unmatched in quality! When they get a bigger storefront they will be A+! read more

The pieces aren't very large, and the prices are a bit higher than what you would find elsewhere, but they're obviously importing very high-quality fish out here in the mountains, so it's definitely worth it. read more

My husband and I had a fabulous, quick dinner at Rice Monkeys. Surprised at how limited the seating area was but was lucky enough to score seats at the counter. Great choices on menu. We ended up ordering bang bang shrimp, spicy edamame, lemongrass beef vermicelli bowl, and the Saigon noodles. Everything was fresh, and so flavorful!! My mouth waters as I write this! This is definitely a hot spot in Durango. To-go orders were being called in and picked up the entire time we were there. I'm in love with the beef pho. It has became a weekly habitual to come here and have a bowl of pho. One day I will be adventurous and try a new item on the menu. Until then beef pho is my go to meal. Oh. Em. Gee. I wasn't expecting to be blown away by sushi in a mountain town but that's what happened. My boyfriend and I split a spicy tuna roll just to say we had sushi and each got a noodle bowl. The tuna was so fresh and tasty that I kind of wished we got another, more exotic roll for comparison. I had the pork egg roll noodle bowl and wanted to cry. The eggrolls were superb, perfectly crispy and stayed that way even after I doused my bowl in the vinegar dressing. The BF got a steak noodle bowl which was equally as amazing. The food here is surprisingly good. It is also surprisingly expensive. I guess the bowls here are somewhere around $10, but the price of certain sushi rolls approaches $15! For that price, I would rather go to a high-end sushi restaurant like East by SouthWest. At least there you have better atmosphere and more comfortable seating. read more

I thought the sushi was quite good. The only reason I give it three stars is because one of our sushi rolls got left off our order even though we paid for it. When the waitress/cashier realized, she brought it out, but our lunch took twice as long as we had expected. Other than that, the sushi is good. The atmosphere is fun, kind of a Asian fusion thing. I came here for lunch, it was just meh in my opinion. I had the ginger chicken pho which sounded really yummy and was disappointed when it was quite flavorless and not up to par with the many Vietnamese places I have gotten pho at. Also there were some random jalapeño bits in the broth, which was not on the menu and not in the description I got from the waitress when I asked what was in the broth. Also the chicken was mostly dark meat and was unpleasantly fatty, I did not eat much of my dish and did not take my leftovers. The waitress never asked how the food was or wonder at why I had not even eaten a quarter of my meal. Pho must not be their thing, maybe try a rice bowl?
