I used to frequent Rice Bowl when I was in high school and always loved it. Since then my tastes have changed and my expectations on quality. I haven't been to rice bowl for years even though I work 2 min away. I had this impression it was dirty and the food wasn't as good as my now go-to place to Chinese. For some reason though I decided to stop in for lunch. The restaurant was quite clean and I'm pretty sure it hasn't changed in 15 years but there wasn't anything concerning. I ordered hot and sour soup which was not hot or sour. It wasn't bad, just not what I expect when ordering this. For my entree I got the Yum Yum Chicken, only $6.95!! It was good. The quality of the chicken seemed to be pretty good though the sauce could have used a bit more flavor. The rice wasn't what I expect from "fried rice" but it was also good. The only reason this joint isn't getting 5 stars is because of the "parking lot." It's not designed for a lot of parking, especially with the busy location of Saddle Creek. I really enjoy the Rice Bowl. I usually call ahead to find out what the daily specials are. The Rice Bowl generally has two daily specials and run about eight dollars, daily specials include two crab Rangoon and choice of egg drop or hot and sour soup. The hot and sour soup is the way to go it is excellent and very peppery. It is my second favorite Hot and sour soup in Omaha. The main dish usually comes with a choice of white or fried rice. This is an small older building and everything on the inside of the dining area seems to be covered in a tiny grease film. I recommend taking your food orders to go. Calling ahead ensures your meal will be ready in the ten to fifteen minute time frame. read more

Sesame Chicken. First time here. Cheap lunch. Came with an eggdrop soup that burned me cause I ate it too fast. This was the perfect amount of crispy and tasty, way better than the sesame chicken from Crystal Jade. The presentation was so beautiful I almost didn't want to touch it, but I was starving so I ate it. The portion size was good enough to have leftovers, except those, didn't taste as good reheated. Our first experience there was a definite A+! I echo what Seamus said, don't be turned away by the exterior! It's cozy inside with nice big windows. The only area that wasn't super clean was the bathroom, and even that wasn't disgusting. Our waitress was lovely, and the food service was so fast! From the time we walked in to the time we walked out it was almost exactly 30 minutes. We ordered the combination appetizer, Peanut Butter Chicken and Yum Yum Chicken. Combination appetizer is the only reason this isn't a 5 star review. It was kind of dry over all, and there wasn't anything special about it. Average crab Rangoon and egg roll, the wontons were okay, the chicken wings were moist and probably the only thing form the appetizers we would reorder. The Yum Yum Chicken was FANTASTIC! Our super helpful waitress let me know that it was a very popular item and I see why. It's just the right amount of chicken to breading ratio. It's not spicy and it has a wonderful garlic quality to it. The portions are generous, and the side of fried rice was delicious. My husband adored the Peanut Butter Chicken, he could not stop talking about it. If you're a peanut chicken fan, definitely order this. The broccoli beef dish was a bit salty and (you'll never here this from me again...) there was way too much sauce. The szechuan beef was fine but had too little beef. Best Chinese food we have had in a very long time! How ever you have to get here...by car, truck, bus, limo, airplane, or helicopter....just get here. We have been here twice now: Once for carryout, and once to dine in. Both experiences were superb. I feel silly that I have driven by here a million times and just recently tried this restaurant. The staff is amazing. We have some special requests when we order Chinese food, and the two young ladies who work at the counter and wait tables were happy to accommodate us. They were very friendly, and the service was outstanding. The chefs are fantastic. The food was fresh, hot, and delicious, and I am not joking when I say it was ready in less time than it took me to order it! The food is high quality. The chicken in the Triple Delight (our favorite) is lean white meat, and the shrimp is cleaned and thoroughly cooked. The prices are good. Five of us ate two family-style meals, including lo mein noodles and fortune cookies, and we had two orders of four crab Rangoon (also excellent) for about $40. Stopped in here last week after scouring the Interwebs for cheap but tasty restaurants in Omaha. Rice Bowl came up on an Urbanspoon Top Ten list, so the wife and I decided to check it out. Now we're pretty picky when it comes to Chinese food. A couple of bad trips to Chinese restaurants in Tallahassee, FL made us a little gun shy when it came time to pulling the trigger on getting some General Tso's or Sesame Chicken. We're pretty picky when it comes to the quality of chicken we hope to see in our dishes -- and chicken with cartilage and chunks of grisly fat aren't exactly appetizing. Luckily Rice Bowl advertises all white meat chicken in most of their dishes, so we were pleased to know that going in. We loved the look and feel of this place. It doesn't get more "hole in the wall" than this. And that's not to imply it's dirty or anything like that. It's just got that out of the way, hole in the wall feel to it. It is waiter service, so the wife and I took our seats, ordered our drinks from a very friendly waitress. And then we ordered. I got the Sesame Chicken and my wife got the Imperial Chicken. Each dish comes with fried or white rice and a crab rangoon. When our dishes arrived, we devoured them. Crispy fried chicken in sweet but savory sauces. Delicious vegetables cooked well. We both got white rice. Steamed perfectly. And the crab rangoons -- YUM. I am COMPLETELY relieved to have finally found a reliable, quality Chinese restaurant with budget-conscientious prices. Wait, I've never reviewed Rice Bowl? This place is a staple in Midtown Omaha. It's where you go when you want some cheap and mediocre Chinese. The prices are average ($7-$10 a meal). Your food comes out fast and piping hot whether you order carry out or opt to dine in. The parking lot is cramped and hard to maneuver in and out of thanks to the fast & furious drivers who constantly barrel down Saddle Creek Road. On my most recent visit, I ordered the Hawaiian Chicken special. This comprised of lemon chicken with pineapples, carrots and bell peppers. It was... mediocre Chinese. Rice Bowl is not my first or second choice for Chinese in this part of town, but I know it has a loyal following. One of their devote fans was even classy enough to leave a nearly-empty bottle of Hennessy sitting on the ashtray right outside the front door. Nice. read more

Once upon a time two chinese kids got hungry for chinese food and said: "Hey, Let's try Rice Bowl! I heard from my friends it was good." Thus, the two chinese kids set off in pursuit of orange chicken and peanut butter chicken at a little old shack on Saddle Creek Road. Little did they know this food would be their downfall. I'm sick! *Le sigh* At 6AM my brother gets up as well and is also running a fever. Uh Oh. Musta been the darn food. After the entire weekend of being sick we finally recover. It was the damn food from Rice Bowl! Thus I have never set foot in here again. And when I found out this was an old Winchell's it suddenly made sense why the fried chicken tasted like doughnuts. This is probably my favorite Chinese restaurant in Omaha. It's super quick (like 5 minutes, people), cheap (around $7/meal), and each order comes with rice and 2 crab rangoons. I order out from here a lot and my order is always waiting for me when I pop in. Bonus: The portions are really big - you could easily feed two people with one order! Surprisingly Fantastic Chicken Wings! This place is short walk from my house, the first place I started going to when I moved over here. FAST! I don't think there has ever been a time I have called in an order TO GO here and they have not had it ready for me by the time i get there, and we are talking about a SHORT 3-5 min walk, that's crazy to me & worth noting. The fair is generic, cheap & fast, nothing more & nothing less. The service has always been good as well. Inside is sort of tiny, & there are always people here. I don't really order much from here any more besides 2 things now days. I remember the Garlic Chicken being good, as well as the Kung Pow, & Chicken Fried Rice, but I also remember that they put way too much celery in everything & they dice the chicken super tiny. Truth be told this place is a 3 star joint for me, but ONE thing keeps me coming back to them, well 12 things to be exact. Their chicken wings are amazing! I tried them on a whim while hung over one weekend afternoon and they blew my socks off, I don't know what it is, its got to be some sort of Asian or Teriyaki marinade, they are just so crisp & juicy & packed full of this amazing flavor that i cant put my finger on, well i can actually put my fingers on 2 orders with a side of steamed rice, but i think you know what i mean. Only problem is the first 2 times i tried them they were using jumbo sized wings, now they are about half sized, but i'm a big dude & I just get 2 orders of them and its all good. read more

It's fairly decent. My family got Chinese take-out for me from this place one day and brought it home to me. That day they put a little too many onions & my eggs were a bit burnt, but other than that it was still fairly enjoyable. The next time I got something from here, there were less onions and the food tasted better. There were also more eggs and they were cooked more correctly this time. They have days where they're just a little bit off, but then there's also days where the food is really good. I would still give them a chance. read more

Alrighty! First things first, the manager contacted me (via Yelp) to say he'd fix my orders. Oddly, he said he went through over 200 receipts and didn't find my order. Nobody orders sweet and sour pork anymore? Hmmm... The fact that he contacted me on here (and not through my phone number) leads me to believe I wouldn't have been contacted unless he stumbled across my review. But who knows? That being said, I went back maybe an hour ago to get my fixed order. I went with sweet and sour chicken this time, as I won't be eating pork for a while. Normally, I simply view sweet and sour chicken the same way most of us view fruit - "Meh.. if it's there, I'll take it, but I'm not going out of my way for it." I wanted something quick (though they are quick anyway) and easy. I'm actually surprised at how much I like it. I may have to start eating sweet and sour chicken semi-regularly again. The chicken was cooked absolutely perfectly, and actually had a taste (most places seem to cook the flavor out of the chicken itself). The outer layer was just right - not too soft, not too hard. The vegetables were also cooked perfectly. They weren't undercooked, or as is the mistake of most places, very overcooked and soggy. Of course, they tasted great. He also threw in an extra order of rangoon, which worked for me, because the rangoon is excellent (and I've only said that about 1 other place in Omaha). I consider the situation rectified and am absolutely satisfied with the food, and the pricing - and I should mention that the gal behind the counter was super upbeat and friendly - another thing that's been sorely lacking in many eateries lately. I doubt they mess up orders very often, based on the scores of the other reviews, but if it happens to happen to you, be sure to call immediately to avoid hassle.
