Good size portion but needs work on the tenderness of the meat. Feels like I'm eating bone-in meat jerky. The flavor's there though...

True enough, upon entering the restaurant, you will feel like you belong in an authentic Italian home, with wooden chairs, tables and comfy leather couches. Its walls are adorned with framed photos of families making it homey. As for the food, their cheapest pizza is priced at around Php450 which is only good for 2-3 persons. The same goes for their single-served pasta at Php350 good for 1-2 persons. However, Italianni's currently offers economical promos that will surely save you a ton of bucks. They have lunch feast combos which include pasta, chicken and ribs priced under Php1000. Moreover they also have pizza and pasta combos. Italianni's now brings their food closer to the people. You don't have to burn through your wallet to experience a true Italian meal.

I get so excited when it comes to delicious Italian food that I even look forward to the complimentary bread Italianni's serves. Sometimes, I really can't understand myself. Oh well. We often order some olive oil and balsamic vinegar, so that we could dip the bread into the mixture and top it off with some Parmesan cheese. They serve lovely, palatable meals that have adequate servings. I really liked their Fettuccine Tartufo e Prosciutto which is basically just pasta with some truffle cream and prosciutto. The truffle flavor really blended well with the salty Italian ham, and I remember scarfing it down like there's no tomorrow!

Pasta with Meatball - they use linguini for the pasta which is cooked al dente with pomodoro sauce the way I like it, sweet with sour tinge from tomatoes. And the meatballs are not just your ordinary meatballs. They are stuffed with cheese for that wonderful cheesy surprise. Chicken Parmesan - It's a rice meal with big boneless breaded chicken cooked well with meat still juicy soft inside. It is topped with pomodoro sauce and gooey cheese. Smore Dip - For marshmallow lovers, here is an enjoyable sweet treat that a barkada will surely enjoy and have fun with. The mallows are burn and soften perfectly that when you dip your graham crackers, you will scoop a soft cloudy of sweet stickiness that melts-in-your-mouth.

We shared stories and juicy gossip over bottles of Stella Artois and Vanderlust's Sausage, Potatoes, and Sauerkraut platter--delectable slices of kielbasa, hungarian, and bratwurst sausage served with seasoned potato wedges, sauerkraut, and German sweet mustard. We ordered this delicious appetizer along with Vanderlust's Pesto di Aglio pasta, Catalan Baked Fish with Potatoes and Asparagus, and Schweinekotelett with Mustard Cream Sauce. The Pesto di Aglio pasta is legit, and is one of the most affordable pasta dishes I've had across all casual dining restaurants I've been to. Portion size may be too small even for one diner, in my opinion, so you better have other entrees on the table to fill you up. The Catalan Baked Fish may seem like a simple dish, but I guarantee that it tastes a lot better than it looks. The crust on the fish fillet elevates the dish, making it more savory and filling than what you'd normally expect from lighter seafood entrees. I only wish there was more of the potatoes and asparagus to take diners through to that last delightful bite. We had very high expectations for the Schweinekotelett with Mustard Cream Sauce--a thick and juicy 300 gram porkchop served with mashed potatoes and a generous portion of vegetables. However, there was too little mustard in the sauce, and the porkchop could have used a little more seasoning. The meat was cooked perfectly though, and we still enjoyed sharing this dish. I just have to end this review by saying how much I love the Booky app. We were able to find this restaurant, request and confirm our reservations OFFLINE (no wifi needed) in less than 10 minutes, get P500 off our bill, and enjoy a FREE dessert! Their take 3 pizza promo is GOLD. Yes, you heard me. Three pizzas. Even if you aren't pizza people, there's always pasta or their rice meals... and even their burrito. People have raved about their burrito and with good reason. Did I mention it's huge? So far, nothing on the menu has ever disappointed me. Everything's pretty decent and doesn't skimp on flavor. So, take my advice. Get a bunch of friends, order the three pizza promo and everyone gets enough food for about 100php per head depending on how many you are. The ambiance is nice, too. It's quiet and there's enough seating though the place can seem a little small.

Still, with the influx of new restaurants, hole in the wall food stalls and small diners, there are still plenty of old favorites that are just hiding in their own corners that I haven't even tried yet. I have been living in Maginhawa for almost a year now and though I have always heard of Leona's, I haven't tried it until my friends and I craved for pizza last night, and we couldn't get a table at Friuli. We went to Leona's instead, because we know that the place is never full, as per our other friends. I wasn't really expecting much, since I imagined that the place would be one of those tried-and-tested institutions that you don't really hate, but you don't REALLY love either. We ordered their buy 2 + 1 pizza (for P500) and I was proved wrong. The thin crust pasta was ace. The crust was just beautifully done, and the cheese toppings were bursting with flavor. My friends tried the pepperoni pizza, and it was generous with the pepperoni. The garlic and mushroom pizza was also very nice, and all the pizzas went well with the shrimp and mushroom pasta that we ordered. I'm back today to try their P199 all you can eat pizza promo, and it's really worth the price. Leona's is easily my new favorite Maginhawa food stop.
