    Our mantra.

"Hi. My name is Christina and I'm a lazy bastard." I think I will see you guys in a bacon retreat facility and this will be our introduction to each other. By bacon retreat facility, I meant, being fostered by all-things bacon and greasy in a far away place where no one can come between our group's love for this grub. Lazy Bastard is located in a basement somewhere in Jupiter Street. Typing that out makes the most sense, to be honest. It's impossible to miss Lazy Bastard when there's a sign outside that says, "Bacons & Burgers This Way!" It's a small bricked restaurant that just begs for you to try out each of their burger and hotdog dishes. Who would want to resist that? Vegans. (I'm sorry to all my vegan and vegetarian friends out there. I love you but I think I love bacon more.) I love my burgers but I think what stood out the most for me here are their hotdogs. I had my share of Bacon Cheeseburger (P220) and Fat Salad Hotdog (P220). All hotdog items are wrapped in bacon. I repeat. ALL HOTDOG ITEMS ARE WRAPPED IN BACON. AGAIN. ALL HOTDOG ITEMS ARE WRAPPED IN BACON. They are open 24-hours a day. Yes, my dear bacon lovers. If you ever feel like popping an artery at 2am in the morning, this is your stop! And this should be your only stop. It's also perfect for sobering up if you've had too much alcohol at Gramercy. Long live bacon. Long live bacon.

Like a heart attack waiting to happen! So delicious though

I came to Lazy Bastard for one reason alone: their breakfast sandwiches! I am a notorious breakfast fanatic. I love my continental breakfasts of toast and fruits, my pancakes and bangers, my hashbrowns, my silogs and goto-- ALL the breakfast food. There's nothing like waking up your system like a good, solid one-two punch of delicious to the stomach. (Uh?) That in mind, I went to Lazy Bastard at about 4PM (who says breakfast is for the mornings??) and set to ordering my DIY sandwich. I had a longganisa patty, cheese, egg over easy, hashbrowns, bacon in my pancake sandwich. I'm only 22 but goodness, I felt like my arteries clogging up, but what bliss it is to die with a breakfast sandwich in my mouth. Lazy Bastard is a perfect McSober meal, and it won't cost you a pretty penny! Most of their stuff ranges from around 175 to 220... It really just depends if you want to add everything to your sandwich. (To which i say : heck yeah!) (Ask about ABV and who knows, maybe the cute girl at the cash register will show you around.) Ah, to the folks at Lazy Bastard... I suggest you guys invest in a defibrillator? Or have St.Luke's on speed dial. Cause damn, if I could choose how I'd kick the bucket, it's going to be neck deep in your breakfast sandwich.b

A little piece of NYC in Makati!

Jupiter street in Makati is once again lighting up and becoming busy because of the many foodie places that recently popped up. During my early years, Jupiter was the main area for our family Sundays. We've tried the entire line of restaurants and everything was good! Good thing new restaurants started popping again! They say 'x' marks the spot, but this place is marked by an arrow leading to the entrance of this restaurant. It is a small place but the food they serve packs a lot of flavour and would definitely leave you wanting for more. One of their best sellers is their bacon cheese burger. What I love about it is that it is not on the greasy side, but sinful nonetheless. Their patty is spot on together with that soft, pillowy bun really compliments the overall taste of the burger. You'll be in for a treat once you get to try their burgers.

    Down the basement!

There's a new neon sign that's been making the rounds on Instagram that reads "Long Live Bacon," which pretty much sums up how we feel about this good bit of pork. This sign can be found at Lazy Bastard and while it's name may sound derogatory, the food is anything but. Burgers and dogs are the regular fare and their special? The bacon cheeseburger (hence the sign). But before I divulge in all things add ons (avocado, taters, etc), let's give their burger a moment in the spotlight. 150g (uncooked) of beefy goodness, their peppery patties are cooked to medium well perfection. Juicy but not looking like a raw piece of meat, their 100% ground chuck holds well for a big burger that comes topped with lettuce and caramelized onions, cheese (if you order a cheeseburger), and bacon (if you order the bacon cheeseburger). Served wrapped in foil and straight off the grill, it's the type of messy meal that you wouldn't mind indulging in. Biting into the burger feels like a warm hug--it's comforting and familiar without all the fanfare. The burgers are filling and good for one but if you're like my boyfriend with a stomach that seemingly never gets full, you can add an additional 150g patty for just P80. The place is small and can only seat a few customers at a time but I like this place during it's off peak hours because it's cozy enough to be a no makeup, big meal kind of date place.

Burger lovers out there, rejoice! You've got another place in the city that will let you indulge your love for all things juicy and meaty. I'm not a big burger eater myself but there are those times when the longing for something beefy and brawny really can't be ignored any more. Thank god I found myself in Lazy Bastard then. Because of the eye-catching neon sign that says, "Long live bacon," I instantly had the craving for anything with bacon in it. So I got a Bacon Cheeseburger and a side of onion rings. As soon as my order came, I quickly tore off the burger's tinfoil wrapper and I proceeded to chomp my way through Lazy Bastard heaven. And wow, that was one delicious and juicy stairway to heaven. The meat of the burger was very thick and quite peppery, giving each bite a tiny bit of heat. I couldn't taste much of the cheese but the bacon came to save the day. The onion rings were great! I love the batter they used because it made each ring very crisp, crunchy and not soggy at all. All in all, I say, Long live Lazy Bastard!

So that's when the burger frenzy started. I tried restaurant after restaurant, I think I was making up for lost time. Fast food burgers are okay and reliable for the most part, but sometimes we just want to eat something that's... I don't know, a little bit loved when it's cooked? I'm being funny here. I don't know. As for 8Cuts, well, for starters, the prices are a little higher than other budget burger houses. High price is pretty much a burger place understatement nowadays so nothing really surprising about that. At the very least 8Cuts doesn't charge too much on their burgers. The cheapest starters I could find was called The Dip of Warm, which is made of artichokes and spinach. So no I didn't get that. I got their mozzarella sticks Php 255 which was okay. They taste good and nothing out of place. For the burgers, they have Classic and Tributes. The classic ones are well, classic hamburgers and cheeseburgers while the tributes have some other knickknacks added to it. I got Hangover for around Php 295. That's a quarter pounder, by the way. I was satisfied with it although I didn't get to finish the whole thing. It was just too big for me. All in all, 8Cuts would be perfect if you're looking for a fries-and-burger-and-shakes fix.

They don't just offer your regular run-of-the-mill cheeseburger. They have different kinds of interesting specialty burgers. Their bestseller is Kailua Burger which is basically a cheeseburger with Swiss cheese, grilled onions and mushrooms. Personally though, I like the Fire Burger. It had onion rings, bacon and the fire sauce which gave the burger a little spicy kick - just the way I like it. Also, the bun was super awesome and the new shoestring fries are addictive. Highly recommended. Go give it a try. And don't be afraid to go for the 9 oz. burger. It's not as big as the sample says it is. They have the pre-shrunk raw patty size on display. The patties aren't that thick.

It meant only one thing: Hawaiian food. In the Philippines. Oh my god. I must have it! Teddy's Kailua Burger is good if you like burgers with some awesome sauce beef, and I definitely recommend it. But to all my fellow non-burger-loving people out there, I ask that you try the Loco Moco or Western Loco Moco at Teddy's. Now you might be thinking, 'Loco Moco? What the heck is that? Will it turn me crazy?' Yes! Sort of. The Loco Moco is a modern Hawaiian dish with a sunny side up egg resting on top of a hamburger patty, which happens to lie over a bed of hot white rice, all slathered with their special gravy, and yes, it's amazingly simple. Slice through that egg and tender beef, mix the yolk with the sauce and the rice for a taste of paradise! And to take it up a notch, add bacon and onion rings with the Western Loco Moco. Either way, the Loco Moco is a mountain of awesome, like a burger without a bun and those pesky vegetables. Sorry, vegetables. Whether you're hankering for local Hawaiian food or simply curious about what something called a Loco Moco would taste like, Teddy's Bigger Burgers is the place to try it. Mahalo, Teddy's! (Four stars because their salmon poke isn't that good, though.)

Do those 2 things correctly and you're 95% on the way to a good burger. I mean, what did the burger ever do to you? Okay, enough of my ranting. I'm just happy to have stumbled across The Beef a few weeks ago. I've been to Hole in the Wall 2 or 3 times already yet I've never tried The Beef. It's an inconspicuous looking black and gray colored shop with a sign stating "The Beef" overhead. Maybe the reason I overlooked it the first few times I visited. Their menu is intriguing because it consists of only 3 items: burger, cheeseburger and fries. I went ahead and ordered a cheeseburger with fries and waited patiently. Little did I know what was waiting for me when I took my first bite into this burger. The burger is delicious and everything I look for in one: juicy, huge beef flavor and I particularly liked the salty, seared crust on the outside. The bun holding the burger appears to be brioche and is soft and spongy, which absorbs all the juices as you consume it. These 2 components alone make this possibly the best burger I've ever tried in Manila. The burger is also dressed with lettuce, tomato, onions, pickles and other condiments which only enhance the experience. This thing literally had me daydreaming about it after my first visit and I kept bothering my girlfriend that we had to return and trust me, I will. Pros -One of the best, if not the best, burgers right now in the Metro. -Simple menu. Cons -Pricey. Burger and fries will set you back at least P350. -Fries are meh. Last but not least: Dill pickles on a burger? Yes. Raw cucumber and/or sweet pickles on a burger? NO, just NO. Just wanted to get that off my chest.
