When a restaurant is brazen enough to call itself Fat, you know it's going to go all out and embrace that name. I kinda knew eating at this newish restaurant at Forbes Town Center, BGC was going to be wonderfully dangerous, but it was a heck of an experience. A sinful but delicious experience.
Upon entering Fat, I find myself in a sleek, but homey, warm, and cheery joint. Honestly not I was expecting in a place that calls itself "Fat", but then again I should have known better as this resto was done by the people behind Locavore. Anyway, one look at the menu (and the prices) was enough to assure me that they weren't going to get an all-fat barbeque for dinner. It was going to be more challenging than that.
The Bacon Sampler looked a bit nakakabitin when it first came out. Six strips of bacon between two people, it didn't look like a fair fight. However, each strip of bacon was positively bursting with wonderful, wonderful smokey flavor that you needed to take your time eating this. This was simply divine.
All those wonderful entrees on the menu, and I go for Salpicao. So sue me, but I've been hunting for really good Salpicao in this city that wasn't done by my mom, and I haven't found it yet. In a place as unabashedly unafraid of fat, could this be the Salpicao I've been looking for?
Yes. A thousand times YES. Soft, yielding cuts of beef, cooked to perfection in what looks like a generous serving of butter, this has got to be the best Salpicao I have ever had the pleasure of ordering. The fact it was swimming in a sea of oil only made it incredibly attractive in my eyes. According to the rather perky waiter serving us that night, the Salpicao is one of their bestsellers. It's easy to assume this is the case because of Salpicao's relative familiarity, but I bet it's because this dish is just so damned good.
Price Range: Most of the items on the menu are bordering on the P800 - P1000 range. However, most items on the menu are meant for sharing. It's almost as if Fat is telling you to share this insanity with friends. A full meal for 2, including an entree, an appetizer, and a drink will set you back around P1500 - P2000. read more
