We always stop at Rib Crib when we are visiting family in Kansas. This time we ordered carry out for our family dinner. The order wasn't ready when we got there but we didn't mind waiting. When we got home we unloaded our bags and realized there was no BbQ sauce or any buns. My husband had to drive back to the store where they gave him only 1 container of BBQ sauce but we had ordered 8lbs of meat. Not impressed with the staff at all. I am unlikely to return to Rib Crib anymore. We have been visiting this location for many years and never have any complaints about the quality of food or the employees. My complaint is that the portion size is simply too small. I ordered a 2 meat combo and am paying ~20 dollars for this. I dont feel the portion is enough to satisfy me personally and this is not a value at all. I did ask the manager on site about this and was told the portions are weighed out individually and that the ribs will always be less because of the weight of the bones adding up. I wasnt offered any type of resolution, only an answer to why the portion was the size I recieved. Sorry RibCrib. I wont keep paying for unsatisfying meals. read more

Potato salad, coleslaw and mac and cheese all tasted like they were spooned out of a bulk container from a grocery store, seriously terrible. Ordered a 1/2 lb of sliced fatty brisket and 7 St Louis ribs. Received lean flat, dry as hell and chalky. The ribs may have been decent and not as dry if my food didn't sit on the counter for 20 minutes while the high school girls greeting at the front desk stood gossiping. Both meats were supposed to be Catolina sauced... never had reddish brown carolina sauce before ‍ But at least they tried to cover the error with a tub of true carolina sauce in the bag. What a cluster. First, they now charge $22.99 for a brisket dinner. They call it "market price" but of course, that isn't on the menu...it's on some chalkboard on the front desk. I called in for a carry out and the was no mention of "market price" which is higher than the price on their menu. I questioned Tyler, the manager on duty, he said...it's on the this board! They also now charge for 99 cents for each extra salad dressing!!!! Unbelievable. To top it off, they gave me the wrong order, when I took it back, the same snarky Tyler avoided me and made some poor young guy handle the foul up. It took 15 more minutes, clearly they never made the order in the first place. When it finally came out, there was no Okra on my $63 order...but I still had my extra 99 cent ranch dressing but no okra to did in it!! What an epic fail! Had 14 for lunch this week and on the spur of the moment I called Rib Crib in Derby, KS and they set up a table and it was ready when we arrived about 10 mins later. The server was very attentive and courteous and took great care of us. Only one small issue with our 14 meals and she took care of it immediately. Drinks were ordered and delivered- but no raspberry syrup for raspberry sweet tea was available. We ordered, and several minutes went by when the waitress came to notify us that brisket was unavailable. A barbecue restaurant that touts its brisket has none? Meaning that anyone coming in this day will not be able to order brisket. Orders had to be changed because several people had ordered brisket. Pulled pork was substituted. The order took at least 20 minutes to be delivered in a nearly empty restaurant. The spuds ordered by several were not even warm enough to melt the butter. Seems as if management needs to change here. There is no reason for a major part of the menu to be unavailable. The barbecue sauces at the table were nearly empty. There also no reason that an order should take so long to be served considering we were virtually alone in the restaurant. Our waitress did the best she could under the circumstances. My husband and I regularly enjoy the Tuesday all you can eat ribs. Last night was the first time I truly regretted that choice. The first ribs that came out were so over cooked they were black and very tough. We told the waiter and his response was I will get you another rack. That one came out almost as overcooked as the first. It was absolutely not acceptable for a BBQ restaurant to serve ribs like that. Even after complaining about the second rack. I came in for some ribs because I am pregnant and honestly was just craving them. I'm from out of town so I decided to stop in to just grab my food. I was immediately met with an awful hostess named Bree. She basically looked at me like I was trash. Looked me up and down and laughed at me, didn't say greet me or anything.. just handed me a menu. I then heard her laughing with another worker about me, as if she wasn't talking loud enough she was also pointing. She was awful and made me insecure the whole time, wouldn't be surprised if she spit in my drink when i went to the bathroom. I would give a negative review if possible.... We used to dine here quite often, but due to Covid we hadn't been in a sit down restaurant in 17 months. So on June 21st 2021, we went in for a very much anticipated evening meal. Now, the staff is great, very informed and quick on service. Our problem came when we received our meal. I was and still am shocked at the four ribs that were maybe 5 inches long and mostly fat. The sides I got were good. I also received one slice of TX toast and slice of pickle. Now this in itself is a decent meal, but my shock was/is the price $16.00!! When I spoke to the wait staff, I was told that that's what you get! I will not be back at all!. read more

Let me start this off by saying that the sides served with our all-you-can-eat rib meals were great. They were hot and delicious, but considering this eatery is named Rib Crib, I think they should have more pride in them. I work for a state-centric article company, and I've eaten at so many of Kansas' barbecue joints, it's crazy. This one was a big letdown, and we weren't even there during a rush! Back to the ribs. The first four plates of them brought out were all cold. The last order we had were the only warm ones, and the only ones that weren't rock hard and bone dry. We had to specifically ask for ribs that had meat on them and were warm. On top of that, our waiter, though I have forgotten his name, had multiple other tables he was also neglecting. He'd come by and ask if we needed anything, bring back four more ribs for the two of us, and then go stand in a corner for the next ten to fifteen minutes unless he'd gotten another table. It was honestly pretty strange. Maybe we offended him by asking for ribs with meat on them that weren't burnt to a crisp? All in all, I wouldn't put this in one of my "Great Barbecue In Kansas" articles, and I wouldn't even put it on a personal list for "try again" but we will try the other location another time, and hope for better. read more

I ordered the two meat combo and The Big Catch Combo. For the two meat combo, I had the sliced brisket and hot links. Personally I felt the brisket was extremely dry. I liked The Big Catch Combo much more - my ribs were not very moist but it was still ok, the fried catfish was pretty good. Rib Crib is convenient for us as Derby residents. But we really go because the food is consistently, reliably good. I know I'll enjoy my meal when I come here. My favorite is their sliced chicken dinner with their coleslaw (which I especially like). My honey usually gets a triple-meat combos; pulled pork, smoked sausage, and brisket with their baked beans (which he especially likes). The servers are mostly high school kids and are very friendly and competent. If you want to indulge in an after dinner treat, I recommend their peach cobbler! read more

When we first arrived at Rib Crib we were seated immediately and our host was very nice and respectful. She guided us to our seats and took our drink and food orders when we were ready. Our food came out very quickly and everything was cooked properly and was delicious. For 3 of us our total came out to be $48.00 which was pretty reasonable for it being a bbq restaurant. The bathrooms were clean as well as the rest of the place. They were good about giving us extra sauces when needed and refilling drinks really quickly. I would definitely recommend this place. As a benefit of a doubt, along with being BBQ aficionados via having been to some of the very best BBQ places in America, we went there for the first time last night, and will not be returning. Seems some of the negative remarks are still spot on, such as mediocre food (the meats were dry and tasteless), and way over-priced for the quality (especially), and quantity, of which could be more substantial providing the food was better. Then there's the BBQ Sauce, which combines both high levels of High-Fructose Corn Syrup (HFCS), and Corn Syrup Sucrose - a Mono-Sodium Glutamate (MSG) equivalent concoction which is meant to enhance flavors - unacceptable. So, last night was our first visit, and last. From now on when we want good BBQ, we'll just fire up the grill in our back yard, or go to KC, both of which are unquestionably superior to what this so-called BBQ place called The Rib Crib has to offer. Update - 12 FEB 2016: Went to the new Hog Wild in Derby, and their food is far better than that served at The Rib Crib (1 Star on their best day). Plus, their portions are bigger, and the entrees are less expensive than The Rib Crib's as well. Therefore, I give Hog Wild in Derby 3.5 Stars out of 5. read more

Amazing! We were looking for barbecue for dinner. Couple of other places were closed. It was New Years Day. But came across Rib Crib. So amazing. We were greeted at the door with a harty hello. Was promptly seated and met by our waiter. He was very nice and polite. We ordered the sliced brisket sandwich with fries. And another with cowboy beans and potato salad. The meat was so great and my mom loved the potato salad. The tea was so yummy. My daughter ordered the Mac and cheese and she ate it all. She never eats it all. Stop on in try the ribs.
