We had a family dinner celebrating a birthday for our grandson turning 10 years old. The menu offers plenty of choices so that everyone could find something they loved. The food was delicious and served in a timely matter. The portions and prices were reasonable. We had great service and we were able to bring our own birthday cake. The server offered us plates and forks when time came to eat it. We had plenty of elbow room at our table of 7 with not only help from our waiter but others would also go by and offer assistance. When it came time to pay our bill we were given split checks without any issues which was most appreciated. The dining area is large with lots of TVs for those that want to watch sports. For some reason they've switched their menu to being a bar menu pretty early on a weekend . I've went in twice to get food just looking for some life and they try to give me a fried food menu . I live in Derby thought I would try then but they're not converting me over. Sad. Not the way to win new customers. I member when the same thing happened to Player's years ago. Food was fine. I got the Reuben sandwich with French fries and gravy. I expected brown gravy, like is served with French fries in Canada. Whoops. My mistake for having expectations - it was white gravy. The food was fine. The tables were fine. The TVs are on all over the place. Some very loud women were very drunk and obnoxiously loud in the bar, and walking around the restaurant. They were super loud. Holy moly. The one TV (projector screen) is enormous. It had a rodeo on. I'm not from this area at all. I guess a rodeo is a fun thing for people in this area. I found it ... bordering on disturbing. Friends of mine really love this restaurant and eat here quite a bit. Based on that recommendation, my expectations were probably set too high. I expected really good food. The food was fine and I ate it all. I wouldn't say anything was anywhere near exceptional though. I guess it was a half step above "meh." I AM glad they have Mug root beer. No caffeine in that root beer, so I could have that instead of just water everywhere else I go in Kansas. (Barq's has caffeine and I have to stay away from caffeine due to my heart problems.) The place was clean. Food got served without utensils. My water didn't come until I asked 3 times. The food was meh or one step up. So, 4 stars. I wouldn't object to eating here again. Solid sports bar with a great bartender. Dude was one of the most efficient drink fillers I've ever seen. Buffalo chicken balls tasted more like a taco seasoning hush puppy. What happened? The food used to be good. I ordered a chicken fried steak and it is clearly a small round frozen piece of meat that was thrown in a fryer. The mashed potatoes are disgusting and taste like window cleaner. I'm not sure what happened to this place. Took us an hour and a half to put our food order in. We got a sampler platter as an app and the cheese sticks weren't melted at all. They were like a cheese stick covered in breading. I got the grilled chicken and it was not even a quarter of an inch thick. And it was unbelievably dry (probably because it was so thin when grilled). My wife and I have enjoyed Madrocks over the years. We chose to give it another try in this public health emergency world. Both of us have had COVID very early in the pandemic and are both fully vaccinated. We are venturing out more into public dining and have high standards for where and how we will spend our discretionary income. One of those firm standard is how well a business follows the current CDC guidelines, mask mandate or not. As I stepped in to the hostess kiosk to reserve a table, I observed literally no patron or wait staff wearing masks. No one in the waiting area was wearing a mask. I was the only person wearing a mask. Here's the bottom line. If you want our discretionary income, your business must comply with those CDC guidelines. Period. This public health emergency is still reality. The virus is still here. Stop pretending it isn't. Another restaurant in Derby got our $80 and their wait staff received our 20%+ gratuity. I support service sector businesses and workers who actually understand science. This staff were all wearing masks. read more

I've been going to Madrocks for years and live very close. I like their catfish and fries. My son likes their hamburgers. It has to be said though that the atmosphere, food and service will vary for different times of the day / week. On the weekend, at lunch time, some of the food and music are very good. Later afternoon, during the week, they transition to a jukebox, I guess to make some extra money, and the food and service go downhill. The jukebox plays about a half of a country song then half of a a rock and roll son, and back and forth. It's ridiculous to go into a restaurant when there are only a half dozen patrons and think I would need to put money in a jukebox to create their atmosphere. Just went here for dinner with my dad he chose it for Father's day. The waiters are really nice. The food is pretty good accept for the mashed potatoes and potatoes salad, there corn on the cob is really good. I love the vibe that hits you when you first walk in. The food was overwhelmingly salty. I get it places that serve drinks add a bit more salt to their food to make you get drinks. This was horrible. I feel as if I just was eating salt from the shaker. The service was meh at best. Our server asked if we liked the food we said it was very salty she said she would take it off the bill never did. Just stopped for lunch here in the beautiful, growing town of Derby. Deco is typical sports bar. Booths have personal TVs which would have been a great feature if I had my toddler (great feature regardless). So yes, family friendly. No scantily clad servers. Our server, Sarah was very friendly, personable and attentive. Owner, Joe, checked on our table. Very nice and funny gentleman. We got the Charlie fries for an appetizer with queso on recommendation from our server. Bar food perfection. The fries are crispy so they stand up to the chili (which was fire) and queso. I'm from SoCal so I have high expectations for chili cheese fries and these are bomb! Got the gobble bacon berry sandwich, and the sauce (cranberry chipotle mayo? or something like that) was so good. My husband seemed to enjoy his brisket sandwich and my daughter liked her chicken pasta Alfredo. The funnel fries are sooo good. I preferred the caramel sauce to the chocolate sauce. Was really impressed with the food and service there until today! Walked in sat ourselves, nobody acknowledged us. Then a waitress across the bar saw us and I actually heard her say, "damm" when she looked at us. Everything was just off tonight, slow service and the food which is usually good was sub par and portions were like half the size they used to be. Fish and chips we're always my go to there. This time sadly they we so small, literally like 3 fish sticks the size of my finger. Not sure what's going on but hopefully it was just an off day, new cook or something. The chicken fried steak was good tasting but tough, potatoes were pretty watery, and corn on the cob was squishy. Disappointed with this place yet again. Madrocks has some pros. The TVs are plentiful and the pizza is solid. Beer selection is decent although nothing to call home about. It was fun to be surrounded by KState fans during the bowl game even if the game wasn't going in their favor. That being said, the service at this place sucks. It was just plain awful. Have you ever sat at a bar after being ignored for 10 minutes and thought, 'did I get in a car accident on the way here? Am I alive? Am I a ghost? Can people see me?', only to realize that the waitstaff is just ignoring you? That's what happened with our party of four. It took 10 minutes for anyone to acknowledge our existence, and after ordering drinks, the waitress brought out the wrong beers (to her credit, she brought replacements). We ordered some fried pickles for the table, which were actually quite tasty. I ordered a 12" pizza and my parents ordered a 16" pizza for our meals. My little brother ordered the catfish. The waitress input the pizza order incorrectly so my parents ended up with two 12" pizzas (yay leftovers!), and she neglected to input my brother's catfish order. The pizza was good, and the crust thin with a bit of crunch. Alas, I cannot comment on the catfish (please see comment above). At least they removed the catfish from the bill, but it was not enough to negate the terrible service for the rest of the meal. I'm sure the waitress will find her calling, although I have high confidence it will not be in the restaurant business. Wide variety of draft beers, bar space, tables, and menu. Sometimes the choices are hit and miss but they were offering chicken fried steak deal. The family enjoyed them and the steak. I decided to go with fish and chips and regretted it some because it was 80% batter and the rest fish. I'll post a pic as well. Like other reviewers, sometimes the service is fantastic and bird dog. Other visits, I've sat with my family that arrived minutes prior and get no acknowledgment that I might also want to order beer or food and just left and ate elsewhere. read more

Neat sports bar. I was pleasantly surprised with the cleanliness and nice seating. There are two large projections screens and many flat screens. Agree that the service was not fantastic - but I have no complaints. Buffalo Chicken Salad: Six boneless wings were crunchy with buffalo wing sauce. Fresh lettuce, Tortilla strips, bacon bits, blue cheese, tomatoes also on salad. I would have it again. Pork Chops: very well seasoned. Delicious. Good value. French fries were slighltly crunchy but I would have liked them crunchier. The atmosphere would be great for watching a game - think buffalo wild wings style but locally owned. For Derby, its a good choice for a sports bar. read more
