Chicken strips were 50 percent breading (hard and overcooked) and the size of my middle finger which is what I'd like to give Applebees right now. The salmon was okay per my fiancée. The food is okay but it honestly depends what you get. I've eaten here multiple times in the past year and I haven't had a good experience. I'm not one to leave a review but with the amount of bad interactions I felt the need to. The waitresses argue with each other in front of us not far from tables. They don't act or look very professional at all. My waitress gave me attitude when I asked her to repeat herself because I couldn't hear what she said. Service was horrible with people just waiting by the door and outside with 15+ tables and booths open while the hostess was sitting down in one of the booths catching her breath. Other employees were just talking by the kitchen swearing very loudly. Food was atrocious. Got the Four cheese mac and cheese with honey chicken strips. We came in last night with 5 people and a child and didn't get anyone up to our table to greet us until we were sitting there for 20 minutes. In that time another table came in, ordered before us, and got their food before we got our drinks. The servers were snarky and the manager was the most unprofessional woman i've ever seen. Was told to go to bar to place order, bartender said to go some place else. Let me tell you about Tony W. Aptly named because he is a W. Tonight we ordered out to celebrate my husband finishing his Bachelors! I ordered the chocolate lava cake curbside to go with my dinner because my 5 year old asked for it and I'm a softy so if course I agreed. Well come to find out the restaurant was out of this item, no biggy. Tony offered an alternative and I was fine with that. However, he came back outside to ask if my son liked chocolate. I said yes he does. So Tony W told me he forgot they had brownies so he would get that instead of the other dessert alternative. Tony W wouldn't know this but my son has autism and can be very particular about food especially if he's already made his mind up. I get home and show him the brownies and to my surprise Tony W gave us extra! I removed the pecans and my son gave it his seal of approval (thumbs up). Service is slow and terrible. After order taken, appetizer arrived after 30 minutes, cold and in disposable container. Chips and dip were cold. The servers just walked around and did not communicate with customers. Appeared that only friends of servers or those at the bar got attention. Our entrees arrived 45 minutes after the appetizers and was cold. Food was sent back to be redone because it was cold. Plates appeared burned and unclean. Food was reheated in a microwave as evidenced by the plate being warm and food was still cold. Potatoes were on plate in shape of ice cream scoop. No manager available at all to speak about poor service. My steak was not cook correctly after 2 attempts. We had to get food to go due to prior commitments and taking too long to serve food. No refills offered and no acknowledgment or responsibility for poor service. Floors were filthy and we were seated underneath an AC vent that was filthy and dirt fell on us. My wife and I went into the Applebee's in Derby, Ks 10/1/2023. We were set down at a table, and ordered our drinks. I ordered a hamburger with fries, my wife ordered the shrimp salad. Over an hour later, our food was served to us, I'm using the term food very loosely! My hamburger was so overcooked, that I swear I was trying to eat a hockey puck! The fries were like eating brittle sticks! My wife's shrimp was also nasty, she was nauseated for the rest of the evening. To give credit where credit is due, our waitress was very good, she was so embarrassed because of the horrible wait and quality of the food. We weren't the only ones with a very long wait, one family had been waiting for 1 1/2 hours!, as well as many other people. We will never go back to this restaurant, EVER! read more

I was very disappointed in my to go order tonight. The last time we ordered there, it was just not good. I thought I would try again. I ordered an oriental chicken salad. The "grilled" chicken was totally different than I've ever had before. It was covered in Italian spices, and tasted marinated in vinigrette. NOT a good taste with oriental flavorings. Also, I had to pull out a lot of brown rusted salad pieces! It did not taste fresh, or flavorful. I would have been better off going to Wendy's for a salad. Possibility the worst place to eat in Derby. Food comes out cold when it needs to be hot and somehow comes out hot when it needs to be cold!? Tons of mistakes constantly and nothing even taste like anything more than slop. Grease is the Limited time Flavor. Dead bugs and living bugs are everywhere, everything seems to have a sticky and/or crusty film to it. This is one of the only two times I have ever walked out mid meal. This was the worst restaurant service I've ever had coming from a server. We went in greeted with a passive aggressive tone from our waiter Lily. The silverware was laid bare on the table. She got our drinks we requested a specific one and she had an attitude. We got our appetizers they were okay. I had just a water and it ran out. When she came back to take our order my drink was not refilled. It was clearly visible. She came back and took a plate off the table but no drink. She walked over there to find a manager and heard Lily talking shit about our table and the burger laughing. They gave us the burger back at the table to show us something we already saw. The manager and other servers were talking shit in a circle about our tabl as well because they kept looking over specifically at us. This lady walked up and said we can get a new server but that was never the problem we jus wanted decent service. Pathetic service from every employee except our New Server we had Jeremy. They literally took my grandmas plate back to the kitchen and put her steak that she's already ate off of right back onto the grill to cook it longer for her. And once my grandma said she can't eat it anymore due to that grossing her out, all the waitress did was roll her eyes and bring us the ticket. Very happy with their COVID policies. Empty tables in between diners, very spaced out. No waiting in the lobby- which is fine. You can wait in your car or outside the restaurant. They were busy, but the staff was polite and the food was good. They are taking cleanliness anf socail distancing very seriously. I cannot say the same for all restaurants. read more

I previously had left a very positive five-star review for this Applebees location a couple years ago. I am now revising that down to a one star rating, and after spending thousands of dollars and many trips to this location over the past five years, I will no longer be going due to how bad it has gotten. I feel like there must've been a very poor change in management at some point over the past year or so, because this location used to be quite good, but it is now a health hazard at times. They constantly run out of steaks at this location, and regardless of what you order off the menu you can almost be guaranteed that it will not be made correctly, and will look like they simply threw it down on the plate. The quality of the food is terrible these days. The last straw for me was the fact that two out of the last four times I've visited this restaurant recently there has been hair in my food. I will try to add a picture that I took of my meal tonight to prove the hair in the food, although I'm not sure how well you see it in the picture. I would advise people against visiting this location for at least a couple years, hopefully by then something has changed for the better. read more

If I ever decide to spend money on a dining experience, I will go anywhere but here. I have just noticed the last few times I went to Applebee's that the quality of their food has gone down considerably. I ordered the strawberry avocado and chicken salad only to receive a plate full of baby greens. All of the 'stuff' was down at the bottom and as I sifted through I found a few measly pieces of strawberry and avocado. I don't want a salad full of just greens while paying $10! The waitress noticed that I had a scant salad in front of me and nicely offered to bring more. She brought a bit more of the avocado and strawberries, but I was still eating mostly green stuff. She said that she would have to charge me to bring more and that there was a reason the salad had a low calorie count. My mother, likewise, was disappointed with the proportions in her salad. Lastly, they charged my grandma extra for a 'loaded' baked potato that included a few chips of bacon and hardly any cheese. It's just sad when I can get a better salad at Wendy's for half the price. I will never go back. I have sworn off Applebees for life. I gave them another chance after a HORRIBLE experience at a different location. (Let's just say a huge bug came crawling out of salad, and the manager simply said it must have been in the bag of lettuce from the truck- dormant from the trip from FL). I ordered the Oriental Crispy Chicken wrap with fries. As soon as I started to eat the wrap I noticed a small dark hair. I removed it and took another bite. At that point several dark hairs were exposed on numerous pieces of meat. It was a week day and I was with my Little from the Big Brother/Big Sister program. It was slow but still had trouble tracking down our server. When I did she apologized and took the dish away, I asked to speak with the manager. The manager came over and immediately told me she looked at my plate and the hairs were merely from their basting brush and not harmful. Really?! No one wants hair in their food period! She offered me another of the same wrap but nothing else, I said no thank you I had lost my appetite. The Manager took my meal off the bill but refused to take my Littles. They have a promo where kids meals are $1 with the purchase of an adult entree. She charged me full price since I didn't eat my meal. This totally blew my mind. Her customer service was terrible, she should have made ever effort to get me to come back into the restaurant, but instead ensured I will never be back to any Applebee's. read more

Awful awful food! Ordered chix entree with 2 soups as my dinner. My husband had entree. French onion soup was cold, oily, had no onions and had spices that don't belong in french onion soup! Second my chili was also cold and was half way full. A cup should be a cup! Went back to restaurant to get better food as we had ordered take out. Talked with female manager who said that's how they make the soup but could add more onions, lol noooo it should come with a ton of onions already. Also stated soup was cold. Asked for a refund of onion soup but wanted new chili, hot and full. Manager refunds back one soup and messed that up and charged my card again for original price. Finally fixes it hands me my chili and I'm headed back home. Get home soup is STILL cold, have to microwave, not that they don't do that with all their food so if someone complains I would suggest heating the damn thing in microwave so it is HOT!
