Maybe my experience was an outlier, but I had no problem asking for help, finding a CD, and picking up a used cd to boot. The gentleman who helped me wasn't high and was really versed on hip-hop and provided great conversation on the recent Czarface and Frankie Pulitzer release. I used to go the old Claremont location when I lived in the area, and staff there was just as helpful. I'd say that the new store has maintained its customer service. The used Shania cd was $2.99, and the new Methodman cd was $12.99. Not bad at all. I'd definitely come back again when I'm in town. read more

I've been to the new location a few times now, and it's a great space--easy to get to, well organized, and with a fantastic selection across a wide variety of genres. On my last visit, Liz helped me out, and she was awesome. She was friendly, knowledgeable, and took the time to make some excellent recommendations based on what I was looking for. Is this store owned by or affiliated with the Rhino Records label? I don't know. It would seem so. It doesn't really matter. This is a an excellent shop. You walk in and vinyl, some merch, cassettes, and books are to the right and CDs, DVDs and posters are to to the left. The vinyl selection is very nice. Don't sleep on the books. They are excellent. Do people actually buy cassettes? I don't think I want to meet those people, no oiffense. The CD collection was bigger and better than I expected. They have both new and used CDs. The prices on the used CDs were reasonable. Music will be playing during your visit and it will probably be good music (on vinyl, of course). The store is spotless and the workers were very friendly and helpful. The vibe here is very good. If I lived closer, I would come here a lot and I would buy a lot. Free and easy parking in the lot. In this day and age, records are not practical anymore and stores are scarce, but Rhino is still around and they make it feel cool again to physically see vinyl, and CDs in person. This place gives a slight feel of Tower Records, Sam Goodies, etc. just like it did 30 years ago. Prices are a bit steep, but vinyl is back because kids right now seem to think they are cool. Rhino has a wide selection of albums, singles, and EPs of all genres, including special editions and imports. Probably everything you are looking for might be here. Or if you're like me you'll find stuff you didn't know you wanted. Another cool thing is finding used records for cheap, or on sale. They also have books, posters, and all other goods sold at record stores like back in the day. The kind of neighborhood record store you always heard about but never got to visit---until now. Super cool store w nice knowledge guys that own/run the store. I just started coming here a few weeks ago and wondered what took me so long. I was one of those Amoeba regulars that used to frequent their Hollywood Sunset store until they moved to the much smaller location now and charges for expensive garage parking (Amoeba only validates up to 1 hour). Rhino has practically the same variety and collection, and if you can't find it, they will do their darndest to order one. It's a low key store w great music usually playing. Located not to far from Montclair plaza in a strip mall, Rhino records has a good selection of dvds and blu rays with an even better selection of records. The staff was friendly upon arrival and at check out. We went on a whim and closed out the store. They have decent prices and their bargain selection is well worth it. What a mess this place has become! The staff are horrible. They think they are Rock stars or something. The ZZ Top looking old dude is beyond rude. He just stands around and tries to hit on the girls that work there. Watched it happen today. There were customers needing help and he's just spaced out totally stoned. Lol. Won't spend anymore money there for sure. Over priced also. $22 for used cd's is a joke. Also, watched someone try to sell used vinyl and the guy sent him away saying he had a few customers ahead of him and it would be a long time before he could get to him and just come back another day. This store is terrible, the selection is just terrible. If you're very invested in collecting and take it serious, don't waste your time here. It was my first time going to the new location and it was actually depressing to compare it to the old one. The old one actually had selection, and you could spend time digging for records. Not anymore. And the workers are so rude and follow you around like you're going to steal something. There's nothing worth stealing. There was such a large selection of records at this shop. I've been to some vinyl stores in the past, but this one was definitely much more organized than others I've seen. They had everything sorted by genre which made it easier to find specific titles. There was a wide variety of cassette tapes, DVDs, and VHS tapes as well. so there's definitely something for everyone. I even saw some board games and books displayed on the shelf to appeal to different interests. I also found that the prices were at or below retail, which was a pleasant surprise. They even had multiple clearance sections where you could get two items for $5 which was great. It was a bit busy when I went, but all of the workers seemed very approachable and open to answering any questions. Their new Montclair location has plenty of parking since it's located in a smaller plaza away from the main roads. This place is definitely a hidden gem. Overall, I really enjoyed coming to this record store and I'll definitely check it out again if I'm ever back in the area! read more

Awesome place. Actually glad it's in the current location as I could never really get comfortable trying to fight the traffic in Claremont. But I stopped in to see if they had a CD that I had been looking for over a couple of years. I like to burn the files to MP3 for my cell music player. They had it but it was used and a fraction of the cost I expected to pay. Used but in nearly mint condition. I say nearly because I inspected it in the car before loading it into the stereo. No magnifying glass but I didn't see any defects and it played perfectly. I returned a week later to see if they had another in stock but ended up buying about 5 CDs, all perfect shape. Heck, saving a lot of money and the people workers there are very cool and helpful. read more

They have a good selection however the price is higher than other places. Besides the point, I came in for a vinyl and since artists produce them in multiple colors, I asked the cashier if the one I'm purchasing is black, he said yes because if it was colored there would be a sticker. Came home and discovered that the vinyl is yellow instead. I called to ask if there's anyway to return it since I wanted a black version. The same guy that helped me out answered on the phone said "what we have is what we have, there's no way of telling if it's colored or black" What in the gaslighting? Man literally said at the counter that it's black since there was no sticker. Anyway I was offered to do an exchange for something else in store. The same vinyl was on Amazon for $30, I got it at $38 from their store because they said it was black. If I had known it was the same color as the one Amazon has I would've never made the purchase in the first place. read more

What a fantastic store Visited Rhino during the Thanksgiving weekend and they made it very hard to stay within the budget I set before walking through the doors.
