Been coming to see Bill at Black Hole since I was in high school in the 90s of course at the older location. Love the new location now though it's a great spot. I love buying from local stores and shops in Fullerton there is so much history and so many places to check out. Black Hole should be considered a local institution for heavy punk, new wave, Brit pop and alternative music lovers. When I was looking for the obscure bands that the radio and Hollywood would not play or give love to I could always count on Black Hole records to fill that void of artistic need for the different and not the mundane. Bill is very knowledgeable when it comes to music and you can easily spend hours talking to him about music. He also has a band called naughty women check them out. It beats waiting for albums to come in the mail from Amazon crime. read more

So many awesome items I think I overspent but it was worth it. At first you don't really see the music section until you go in deeper, clothing is clean, soooooo many buttons for a button aficionado and some great stickers to stick on your board or laptop. read more

Black Hole Records is more like a regular vintage store, crammed with clothes, media, vinyl, various objects and what not. It's a mix bag. Decent service, I did find the media prices to be very high, but I like record stores and the area needs one. I wasn't impressed with their selection, but if you're in the area, check it out. read more

Really cool shop. It's mostly vintage/retro clothing and accessories but the record selection is strong. Lots of variety and prices are pretty decent. The staff Is super friendly the owner is very friendly and really knows music. He was awesome to talk to and even offered to find some records for me. I recommend dropping by if you are looking for some new or old vinyl or some cool t shirts or leather jackets. Very eclectic. I will definitely be back...I just wish they didn't light up the incense...I can only take so much Patchouli!!! read more

Had some extra time in So Cal so I visited three different record shops. This record store is tucked away under the Costumes sign of their rent partner. It's worth finding. Tremendous selection of new, recent and classic vinyl. All cleanly organized and simple categories. Relative bargains and some hard to find reissues. I could have spent hundreds of dollars in the short time I was there but I wanted to stay married. Small $1 section out on the patio and I found a couple of gems. Owner was knowledgeable and not a nerd. Friendly, accommodating, easy to work with. Vinyl addiction usually involves hours spent at some weird used record store where flipping through thousands of albums is required. This was a surprising exception. No no , definitely NO. I bought a Morrissey record here the other day and although it was wrapped as new the record was damaged and scratched . It was a $49 double record and one side was completely scratched. He has a no return policy posted so I didn't bother going back because I get it, but seriously don't buy here if you like to actually enjoy your records . He gave me a free sticker so I guess I paid $50 for a morrissey sticker, but I'd rather have a good album . read more

This store is really a gem in downtown Fullerton. I went to this record store when I was in high school and try to drop in whenever I'm back in Fullerton. I've always felt welcome and the selection of records and t-shirts is amazing. The owner, Bill, is super knowledgeable and will help you find whatever you're looking for. I dropped in on a recent visit to Fullerton and brought my seven-year-old son in to meet Bill. I talked to Bill about how I used to visit the shop back in my younger days, and he gave my son a free Blackhole shirt! My son was so stoked! We had a great time checking out the vinyl records and all of the other cool stuff, including spiked bracelets, costumes, stickers, etc. Whatever you're looking for, from old school punk to Brit-pop, they've got it! Before the age of the internet downloads, I used to take a portion of my paycheck and head to Black Hole Records to purchase a variety of bootleg concerts from some of my favorite bands. Sure Tower Records was around during that time, but you went to Black Hole for the live stuff. There was no YouTube, there weren't torrents, just good old fashioned CDs that you had to stick in your player to listen to. Though downloading and streaming is super simple and easy to do, I miss the feeling of excitement I used to get when finding that hard to find set from the Smashing Pumpkins, or rarity performance from No Doubt when you got your hands on it. Fast forward a lot of years and Black Hole is still a great place to peruse records, see the smaller section of bootlegs they have avail or check out the variety of posters + patches they carry. They still have band shirts for purchase, and have older costumes you can scavenge through for parties, though that is my least favorite aspect of the store. Things are definitely on the pricier side, but that's what you get when supporting local retailers. The guy behind the counter is still knowledgeable and friendly and still shoots the breeze about music and bands going on around town. I love that they still post show schedules and posters on the window announcing bands coming through the area. Just like the good old days. I'll continue to support, though I don't do it as much as I'd like to. read more

Black Hole records is one of the last places where you can find a quality selection of old vinyl. The good stuff punk and alternative. Not the crap you find at the thrift stores the Barry Manilow or Chipmunks Christmas. This is not your mom's record store unless she was really cool and grew up in the 80's. If she was, I bet she's still "bodacious" I could spend hours in here just looking at the albums they have. It brings back so many memories of a simpler yet more rocking time for me. If you want to be a hipster, they sell the proper clothing here to. Not my thing but I could tell they have a awesome selection of 80's rock shirts and vintage garb. If you're in downtown Fullerton. I have found a new favorite record store!!! Why, why, WHY did it take me so damn long?!? Being the fanatical anglophile that I am, this place is unreal! It's like a brit-pop, shoegaze, goth, ethereal field of dreams! As soon as I opened the door, my eyes were instantly drawn to the ultra rare My Bloody Valentine and Chameleons UK vinyl that were calling my name from the display on the wall. For such a small place, they have a very impressive selection of records. I met the owner, Bill, who is a really cool guy and quite knowledgeable. I found quite a few rare shoegaze gems that you would NEVER see at Amoeba. I only wish Black Hole was closer. Fullerton is a bit of a drive, but it is soooo worth it! read more

The selection is AMAZING. Tons of Morrissey, Smiths, rare out of print records by OP Ivy, Clash, Sublime, lists goes on and on...for the small selection they have, there are tons of rare LPs and impossible to find vinyl bootlegs. There is a reason these records are there, many in multiple copies. Nobody can afford to buy them. Stick to ebay, and buy the records. The highest ebay price, multiply that by two and that is how the store seems to find pricing on their LPS. $50 for an LP i can get on ebay for half? no thanks. $40 for a bootleg LP i just bought for $15 at Vinyl Solution the day before? Um, how do you figure your HIGH PRICES???? stay away, unless you want to go for a vinyl museum or enjoy over spending on vinyl. read more

Love this place. Great selection of hard to find alternative rock gems, from music to wearables. Yes, some of the prices are "collector" prices (high ), and yes you can find some of the items on ebay for less, however, this is, for the most part, a store for collectors. There is still some joy in the hunt, in person, at an indie record shop, being able to pick up the items, and examine them. You can, at times, negotiate the pricing. Yeah, the prices are on the high side - but that's because most of the stuff is difficult to find in one spot! Some of them are rare and in good shape for their age. You also get a bit of history with the purchase which I doubt you'll get at BestBuy! I know ! The owner knows so much about my favorite band Social Distortion , its almost as if he lives with 'em! Plus, you try to keep a store open in expensive DTF ... ! What? open a bar in DTF? that's original !!! Support small business ... you don't have to buy all your stuff there, but every once-n-awhile why not get a cd or shirt? $20 bucks geez! read more

Black Hole Records is an institution. I've thrown so much of my money into that Black Hole, but it always gives me back amazing recordings I couldn't find elsewhere. Yes, the prices are high. But the rare recordings and bootlegs they stock are worth it. I'm thrilled the store still exists and hope it will always be there. read more

Haven't been here since we relocated to the East Coast prior to the advent of the Interweb when these things called CDs were still being sold. We used to come here to buy imports and bootlegs that were otherwise unavailable at the larger merchants - this was back in the day when flipping/browsing through rows and rows of music was fun. We were pleasantly surprised to see that Black Hole has survived the destruction that had claimed the likes of Tower Records and is still going strong. Now it leans more heavily toward a vinyl selection as CDs are getting phased out, and he stocks more tshirts and other memorabilia to offset. Prices are a bit on the high side but that's also a function of the availability. There's a lot of Morrissey stuff here so hardcore fans looking to complete their collections should find enough things to look at but even for the rest of us who don't care for him, there's a lot to browse. Blackhole Records was a shop I would frequent when I spent just about every other weekend in Downtown Fullerton to see shows at Plush cafe or to kill time at the local arcade. This has got to be the most unorganized clusterfuck of a record store I have been to. The store itself is split into two separate stores. The left side looks like the aftermath of a tornado through a trailer park trying to pass off as a vintage clothing store. The record store itself is small and unorganized, they do not sort records by genre and will throw in t-shirts in with vinyl which can't be good for the quality of it. Selection is very limited which wouldn't bother me if this store wasn't so expensive! Don't come here expecting to spend less than 15 bucks just for a CD. read more

My fave Black Hole moment was when I went through the shop's back door with the sole purpose of buying the new Suede album and Bill was already playing it (loudly). "You got this?". And he got a CD copy out for me and we chatted for a bit. This is just a classic shop. Don't live close by or I'd visit more often. A very favorite. read more

Holy cow, is the redesigned store better than it used to be. Last fall, this long-standing downtown fixture -- just doors away from the Red Hat Society -- was a clutter-bug's nightmare. They'd split the shop length-wise, giving the vintage clothing store too narrow a space and giving the record store too narrow a space. Now, it's split horizontally and is, in the words of the owner, "more sexy." If you're into alternative rock, pop, indie music of all stripes, punk, hardcore, etc., you'll find something in this small but smart store's selection. CD's edge the place in glass cases. He only gets a few of any one thing, so you have to ask. The vinyl and used stuff's in the middle, as well as Brit pop mag back issues and other ephemera. In the back are the clothes. Very cool. I used to shop here while in high school. I agree with Aaeon, it's a good spot to get some psychobilly cdsand old rockabilly crap, but I still would never buy any of it. Too pricey. The dump they call the costume shop/clothing store is hell. I would never waste my time going through all of that stuff, unless I had the whole day to waste. Temple of Morrissey! This place is definitely my niche. All of that stuff from 1978 on that fell into post-whatever is what I love. Prices reflect the uptick in the interest in vinyl again but a few things made me think "just go home and find it on eBay". Lots of vintage clothing too from that era especially of you like my nuthugger style running shorts! Beats anything I have access to back in Florida. Very appreciative that places like this exist for us out of towners to ogle over. read more

I was in the area with a lot of time to kill. So I remembered the last time I was in town, I heard about a record store. Record stores indulge me in one of my greatest vices: records. While let the record state that I did not buy anything from this record because the prices are pricey. But this place is a where the young and old go to get an education on music especially if you are a huge fan of The Smiths, Morrissey, Joy Division, Ska, and Brit pop. The guy who was working the counter was speaking poetry and giving a history lesson. He probably didn't know that I was listening but it was a beautiful thing to listen to. I find myself wanting to pick his brain about the music he listen and shows he went to but I was way too shy. I think even if you don't have the money to walk out with something, this is place is a most visit for any Smiths lover or music lover. You will leave here with an education. read more

Love this shop! My boyfriend and I go all the time and somehow end up spending hours there! The guy who owns it is super cool and loves what he sells! He always notices what we're looking at and pulls something really cool out to show us .. I've found a lot of my favorite patches jackets and band shirts here. The vinyl collection is stellar but a tad on the pricey side. But I've never been disappointed by Black Hole. :) read more
