I came here for a signing with the Alain Whyte band, which consists of musicians who played with Morrissey but made an incredible record in their own right! The line was absolutely biblical but undeterred I decided to wait and wait some more. Yes, I regret nothing. Located after downtown Covina, Kaos Records is in a large strip mall with what on a regular day would be plenty of parking. Once inside I found a good medium sized record store that specializes in 80s new wave and punk. There's lot of posters, clothing and other memorabilia here. On a regular day I'd be digging through the bins for sure. The signing was handled really well. The boys of the Alain Whyte band were super friendly and personable, which was part of the problem. Everyone wanted to chat them up while us latecomers were sweating it up outside lol. But once inside all the heat was forgotten. All the employees were super cool and kept us updated every step of the way. 40 years in business so they're definitely doing something right. I'll definitely be returning to check out what they have. There's a few holes in my collection I think they could definitely fill. Great store! Highly recommended!!! read more

Absolutely PERFECT record stores experience. I have been traveling the country stopping in record stores all over and this one was an absolute delight. Great selection, I was finding some real scores in the bins. You can tell they curate with a keen eye. It has that "lived-in neighborhood record store" vibe devoid of the gatekeeping male gaze, but rather a welcoming, intimate familiarity. They have clever merchandising, and great merch. The two guys in the shop were a treat to chat with, they really made it a great experience to shop there. I will definitely make a return trip on my next LA visit! read more

Been going here for yeeeears since way back when it was called Hot Rocks in Upland. Staff is usually very chill, Ray is cool to chat with it. They specialize in 80s music ie. the smiths, Depeche Mode etc but also have a good variety of other options . Definitely worth your time and money to support. read more

Im a regular here and im glad to be because i'm always welcomed in and greeted by staff. They have a really cool decal collection for sale. They're very fair in pricing, not too much tax on more rare vinyls. If you buy a lot of vinyls they throw in some decals. Service at Kaos is unmatched it's a fun place to score new and used vinyl as well as CD's, vintage patches buttons , t-shirts and fun collectibles. The prices on used cds are great ! Selection of vinyl is a bit dated but that's ok I just am not really sure why they carry Kid Rock ??? But you can look through their bins and get a decent price on Brit pop, 80's , 90's and early 2000's music for a nice price.The store carries all the fun patches and stickers anyone reliving their youth or person into vintage 80's to early 2000's music would want to see in a local record store... read more

This is such a cool spot especially if you are looking for band tees/records. The shop is filled wall to wall with records/posters/merchandise. I love that they had the shirts wrapped up like records that was pretty cool! The spitting image of an edgy record store. Dust off the denim jacket with the safety pin patchwork before crossing the threshold of this record store and into the CHAOS. They've got vinyl, posters, tees, patches, jewelry, bags, and a bunch of other hip stuff that's way too punk for all those SQUARE working stiffs toiling away at their 9 to 5 jobs. The folks who back KAOS want the riot on the streets and in the storefronts! The customer service is commensurate with the variety of the merchandise. Just one courteous staff member was enough to keep KAOS running well. I wish I had gotten the name of the cashier/stocker/buyer/jane of all trades. She answered all my general questions about the store inventory, and she let me dig through some of their overstock 12" records; I found one solid copy of a Loverde record. The store had some 45s to dig through too. Kaos does stock a little bit of everything. I picked out a David Essex 45. Yes, the one with Rock On on it. While I was digging I had a worthwhile chat with the cashier about David Bowie. She is apparently an extremely ardent Bowie devotee. I am not nearly as much of a Bowie fan; I did agree that Bowie was an exceptional entertainer and musician worthy of all his accolades and hype. I'm a fan of Bowie's plastic soul phase, so I asked if she had seen his performance on Soul Train. The same suggestion goes for anyone reading this post. If you've not seen Bowie's performance of Fame on Soul Train, then that suggests a wasted life. Go watch Bowie on Soul Train, or better yet pick up a copy of Changes One at Kaos. It's been way too long since I was in a record store of any kind. I have a lot of fond memories of visiting Amoeba (R.I.P) in high school, which was my favorite place to be in the world at the time. Kaos Records is a smaller, more condensed version of that feeling and I love it for that. They have a nice selection of punk, metal, new wave (and more) merchandise including vinyl, apparel, posters, and other knick knacks. You even get a free button with your purchase which is such a nice gesture. I got a reproduction of one of my favorite The Cure shirts ever, still stoked about that. I definitely will be returning again soon (presumably on a Saturday which I believe is when they put all the new merch out.) Glad to have this little gem so close to me! read more

Once located in the hip town of downtown Covina this shop has managed to survive its new and desolate location a couple of blocks up the road. Since the move this shop has gotten a lot better in a sense that it has a lot more music related items such as pins,stickers,posters,magazines and lunch boxes.They still do carry a boat load of band t shirts that look like actual records to give the illusion of a record isle,pretty sneaky.But I think that the coolest thing here is located at the entrance of the shop where one can find flyers of local bands playing in nearby backyards,what.I remember those days and this shop let's the young and upcoming bands spread their word to the locals in the area,sweet. This store mostly carries punk,metal,death metal and all the other metals.They are also part of record store day,so it's definitely worth checking out.So support your local record shop,I will.Peace out. read more

I adore this place. Stopped in but expecting much but we were in the area. A lot of really freaking cool stickers for your hydro flasks, yetis and cars, shirts, patches and pins. The records here are mainly punk, classic rock and some pop punk and what I'd call KROQ bands. You'll find a few rare hip hop records too. I'm not punk by any means but walked out with two great finds (the strokes and Kanye). The owner is awesome! read more

Victoria was amazing. She was welcoming the second I went in and I felt very comfortable at the store. I took a long time but she never rushed me or anything. She was very polite, friendly, engaging and knowledgeable! I would definitely love to go back. It was my first visit ever and it was totally worth it. Whenever we stop by he always leaves with at LEAST 5 vinyls lol. Their collection is always changing & they are constantly getting new shit in!!!! No matter how old I get, my taste in music doesn't seem to change much. I always have the fondest memories of music during my high school to college years. This place is a perfect time warp to that period. It's as if this place was custom tailored for my musical taste. It's a very genre-specific place that specializes in punk, goth, and heavy metal music from the 80's and 90's. It reminds me of many of the independent record stores during the period like Moby Disc, Penny Lane, and Poobah but the selection is much more filtered down to just the stuff I like. Yes, I am being selfish and this review is totally biased. More than the selection of CDs and vinyl, I really like the selection of rock t-shirts here. Some of the stuff looks vintage, Prices range around $15-$20 but sometimes they have sale for 10% off. I found some really cool Joy Division shirts and they have tons of Misfits shirts. There's plenty of other goodies here like buttons, patches, stickers, posters, toys, etc. I really don't need most of this stuff but I just want to buy them for nostalgic reasons. If you like 80s punk and goth, this place is definitely worth checking out. Place is in an unassuming part of Glendora and is pretty small, but most of the stuff they carry are really cool. Amoeba and Rhino has a bigger selection but this place has more character and better service. read more

New hours 12 noon though it states 11am here. Great store! I'm building my traveling cd collection and found a good deal on a Rush compilation album. Lucky my 2020 car actually has a CD player still. Great selection on LPs wish I had room in my house to put a record player. I recommend this place if you're into classic rock, heavy metal, punk, new wave. They also have vast Tshirt collection a hell of a lot cheaper than if you bought one on tour. My Kansas shirt cost $45 at the venue a few years back. Also some cool posters. Check it out!! read more
